Was researching grey-import options and was just about to place an order last night when I noticed this deal at JB Hi-Fi.
The reduced price is surprisingly competitive compared to many importer listings, while providing all the benefits of buying locally, including Australian warranty and easier returns/support, making this a no brainer for me.
They also seems to be running discounts across a range of phones and electronics at the moment, so it may be worth checking out other deals as well.

I guess it depends on the buyer but yeah I don't see the point, nobody really cares about the latest phone anymore. You buy a new one when you need a new one, if you spend over $700 youre either rich or… place a lot of value in image/tech. Personally I'm stoked with my still going s22
@Steggy: Yeah. I remember i used to always get the flagship phones when they were around 500-700$. I remember every time i did, it was a step up from my previous flagship. But the last couple of purchases i just havent seen much difference really. Possibly in the camera section. I miss my old Sony phones, they had great speakers / sound and good cameras. Now you are either upgrading for the sake of upgrading or because everyone else has got one. Keeping up with the Joneses. Thats why i thought the people who wanted the features but not the exorbitant prices went for the Oppos and OnePlus etc, but looks like they have also realised there are people willing to pay multiple thousands for a phone.
Yes it is. I was actually about to buy it from a similar importer site, but with JB Hi-Fi's price coming this close to grey-import pricing, the extra cost was easy to justify for me.

Why so expensive
It is expensive for sure, but the reviews are really good and it is the cutting edge of tech at least for now. I have been trying to talk myself (and the Mrs lol) into getting one for a month or so too, and this deal finally pushed me over the line. This will be my first foldable though, so wish me luck!
Having used both a Z Flip and Fold, I can say there are advantages and disadvantages.
I think the screen still needs durability improvements, however if you're the type to change your device every 1 or 2 years then it won't be an issue.
This phone is definitely a lot more expensive when compared to pre-order deals you could have got on a Z Fold 7 (based on my experience).
The Find N6 is just better in almost everyway though. I made the jump from the ZF7 to the FN6 and these are some of the things I find better on the FN6:
- Cameras are better
- Battery is a lot better
- Cover and main inner displays are a lot better (wider on cover and matte on inner display with minimal crease and reflections)
- Opens completly flat compared to ZF7
- Supports bluetooth pen input on cover and inner display
- Fingerprint reader is far superior imo
I still prefer OneUI over ColorOS but not by much.
Great to hear your experience going from zf7 to n6 and it reassures me a bit.. having watched tons of review videos, I had no doubts this is what am getting instead of waiting for an incremental update on zf8.. migrating from OneUI as well so hoping to get used to of ColorOS.. hope it holds solid for next 5 years..
@vroom9: Yea based on the leaks Ive seen so far, the ZF8 looks pretty dissapointing.
I believe it should last at least 5 years based on Oppo's 5 years of major Android OS upgrades and 6 years of security updates.
Honestly, I haven't regretted the move yet :)

The charging speeds are definitely a plus and something I am looking forward to. The OS and security patch duration is near around industry standard so no problems there.
had the Z Fold 7 for about 6months before I had to go back to a slab phone (Oppo Find X9). Whilst it has great advantages to the fold, the Z Fold 7 in particular, was so easy to drop and it's hard to find good cases for Foldables in general.
Aliexpress is my go to. Especially one with a decent handle type thing on the back. They can be found for about 15 bucks and are much better than standard ones.
FWIW this phone costs exactly AUD$2000 converted in China. Oppo absolutely takes the piss on australian markets with their MSRPs. 65% Australia tax like it's still 2010.
You could buy return tickets to China, buy this phone in China, and still have change left over for a short vacation (if you can confirm it doesn't get IMEI locked and can do the play store sideload).
I agree but this is the state of play right now. And its not only Oppo making money but the retailers as well. Only a couple of days ago, I was checking with multiple JB HiFi reps just to get the price down from their retail price of 3299 and the best I got was 3179 when the grey imports were hovering around 2550. 2 days later and they drop 500 out of nowhere. They clearly had a big fat margin that they did not want to negotiate on even 2 days before their sale went online. It boggles my mind.
if you can get 10% off gc + gst refund during travel, can get this down to 2300, might be worth for all local support

Have the find n5 (imported from Singapore) and it's a fantastic phone. Personally I use my phone so much and use the fold out screen every day and it replaces my need for an iPad effectively and my laptop for a lot of tasks. The hardware of this phone is basically best in class and works very well with minimal noticeable screen fold (some issues with software not being optimised still). Main issues are with the cameras and their software being kinda crap. The way I think about it is the thing I use the most every day so I end up easily making up the cost but each to their own.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I am hoping this replaces my iPad for reading ebooks as well. I do feel the value proposition comes with these small improvements in daily tasks. Not sure about the n5 but in the reviews i have watched I haven't seen anyone complaining much about the n6 camera experience, fingers crossed.
Didn't expect to see OPPO cost more than an iPhone.

The oppo x9 ultra are good atm. It's the vivox300 ultras getting block afaik. AMTA giving this: CHECK. Please contact your service provider or handset vendor, as your device may not be fully supported when 3G closes.
I accidentally transfer my esim to voda which is notorious for blocking imported phones hopefully it doesnt get flagged huhu. Transferred out the voda esim to my S26U.

@rezmata: still currently unblocked from AMTA but I know it can take a few days . I only did the sim transfer at lunch time today and was on my phone for probs 30 mins until I realised. I panicked and transferred it out lol. Really hoping nothing happens.

If you are to do it, safest way is to use Telstra or Optus network only.
@ozchobie: Yes Voda uses alot of switching therefore not taking it leniently. Optus seem to be the strongest bet. Telstra seem to be undecided on whats best. Heres hoping the providers let you enjoy this awesome device permanently….

I highly suggest not purchase foldable phones from grey-import or sort of stores, as most of them likely requires servicing after 1-2 years regardless how you deal with it.
My family have been using fold 1, 3 5 from samsung, pixel fold 1 and motorola 50, and regardless of how much you care it will require "expensive" maintenance. At least certain options from JB or samsung dealt those problems quite well, but I don't think you'd have that options if you do not purchase foldables from bigger stores.
That's a solid advice. But the price difference of $700 before the deal made me sit on the fence and consider the grey imports. So glad I waited till last night when this popped up.
what sort of maintenance is required? and how much do they cost?
Mostly a folding display.
Some manufacturers use thin glass as a display protector, which breaks down after a certain amount of unfolding. This one costs around +600 (at least, depending on the model), and is mostly covered if you have a protection plan (Samsung Care Plus or JB Cover, etc.). If the phone has a weak hinge mechanism, it will need to be replaced, or it will start to unfold and drop below 175 degrees, which increases the crease in the middle. That would also cost more than +400, as most of them are bound to the frame and are covered under a protection plan.
If the phone has no mechanism to protect it from dust, some dust from your pocket or bags can get into the gap between the display and the hinge, eventually killing the display. The damage will spread gradually, even if you are using it in a steady state, and this will also require a display replacement.
And the overall process to replace any of the things above require throughout process to be done (I'm an amateur repairer and iPhones require around ~20 minutes from my side to replace the display, and these ones require more than 2 hours mainly due to the difficulties of display removal), so many of private/small business will also ask you about the similar price to replace display.

Nah actually fold 1 lasted around 5 years with my father and fold 3 lasted around 5 years with me til now.
I liked the overall concept so I've used it from very first release, and that's why I've added some words here based on my experience.
Samsung ones were mostly fine and long-lasted (also got covered) except fold 5, but others broken around 2+ years.
That's why I've written these comments as these problems seem to be quite universal throughout the foldable phones and found regardless of manufacturer. However I won't buy pixel ones anymore.
when you say fold do you mean samsung or oppo?
I have rarely heard about any issues with oppo find series. And mine is going very strong.
Also, although 5 years is not great, i think most people would upgrade phones at least once every 5 years

About 5 years context, I mentioned it based on my experience, and you'll see there are enormous amount of e-waste foldables due to their damage on main display. I'm not using all of these ones by myself daily but my family members using it in various circumstances, so happy to be considered as personal opinion.
FYI You will be hard to find "general" issues in oppo since their market share is relatively small than other companies such as samsung or huawei.

These are all different companies mate. And you’ll find a lot of articles about short lifespans of the foldable phones from various manufacturers which are originally make their phones either with samsung display or boe display anyways.

In addition, it’s easy to find similar issues from oppo phones either. Please google “oppo find N broken screen” and you’ll see very similar damages along with the hinges, which I originally mentioned.
I’ve had issues with pixel fold and motorola 50 within 2 years and disposed them as the repair cost was equivalent to used same models.
Originally you’ve asked my opinion about samsung so I’ve answered based on my experience, and I think now you’re missing my original comments about other phones.
And that’s it. You might seen that many companies bragging about “how long they withstand fold-unfold trial” since it’s common thing to be broken down faster than conventional bar type phones. I’m happy to see that you enjoying to use your oppo phone, but there’s a reason more than half of the market share are occupied by samsung; because they make foldable phones more competitive than others.
If you want to get my points as extrapolated words, please do. It’s based on both my experience and various cases that I’ve seen as repairer, and there will be a lot of articles saying foldable phones generally have shorter lifespan as I originally mentioned.

A $2800 Oppo phone, wow! I'm thinking if they keep releasing prices like Samsung or Apple or higher then we get used to it and will no doubt spend the money one day to buy it. Except they're forgetting that there are more than 3 phone manufacturers, lol.
This is the reality we are living in now sadly. To justify this to myself, I only upgrade every 4-5 years when my previous phone reaches end of life software wise and the tech has advanced enough to justify splurging a little extra. But I hear you.
I used to upgrade every year before my old phone lost too much value, if I got a good deal sometimes it only cost me $100-$200 to upgrade. Then I started to upgrade and it felt like I still had the same phone every year. Looks like I'm on the 4-5 years track instead now.
My Pixel 8 Pro still seems perfectly fine coming up on 3 years old, my only issue is the battery. By about 2pm it can be in the red if I've been using it a lot. Would be handy if we got trickle down from some EU laws that forced manufacturers to make batteries replaceable again.
Couldn't agree more. Battery is where we start to feel the pinch after 3-4 years and all manufacturers have made us believe that buying a new phone is the only solution by making battery upgrade so difficult.
I know people who upgrade to the new samsung ultra's every year, and sure they only pay a reasonably small price but it seems exhausting to me and only for a small spec bump.
Not saying this isn't a bargain in a relavent sense but wow, that amount of money for any phone is just crazy.

exactly my conundrum mate.. and from what all i have researched the zf8 is going to be just another incremental update instead of a technological leap which i think oppo made.. specially the 2 things i wanted the most was a great battery life and good cameras, and n6 ticks both of them off..
I'm coming from Pixel Fold 9 (which I killed twice because their hinge is crap) and camera was atrocious on that thing. I reckon the Samsung 200mp sensor will run laps around it anyway.
I guess for us there are 5 deciding factors
1) Camera - I think Samsung and Oppo are trading blows according to the reviews I read/watched.
2) Battery - Fold 8 5000 vs N7 6000
3) Crease - rumors say the new samsung should compete with the N6
4) support - my foldables always die with normal usage, I'm inclined to think samsung will have better/faster support
5) price - Samsung normally have good deals during pre-orders, will they beat this 2,799, I'm thinking quite possibly. Fold 7 was obtainable around the 2k mark at launch.

I am pretty sure 4 & 5 Samsung wins hands down. But the rumor is they are not going all out with eliminating the crease as what Oppo did (even though it is Samsung who built Oppo's screen), possibly to keep costs down. A slight upgrade is what seems more likely.
Battery and camera, from what i have seen in review videos, Oppo is going to be the better one vs zf8. And battery and camera were my 2 main requirements, in addition to the screen crease.
Best of luck choosing one. You can not go wrong either way.

This is actually going to be my first foldable too, so I'll be finding out soon enough!
The main real-world use cases that I think I'll get out of it are:
Reading ebooks – I read a lot, so this should be a huge upgrade over a regular phone.
Video streaming – I'm more of an AFL, MotoGP and UFC guy than a movie watcher, so I'm already looking forward to having a larger screen when I'm out and about, especially during the kids' sports and activities when I'm mostly sitting around waiting.
Browsing websites and shopping – There have been plenty of times when the Mrs is zooming in on product photos, specs, reviews or blocks of text, so I'm hoping she'll enjoy it too (at least that's what I told her to get her approval 😂).
Travel – We spend a fair bit of time checking maps, restaurants, reviews, photos and nearby attractions while travelling, and I'm hoping the extra screen real estate will be really useful there.
To be honest, some of it may end up being a novelty, but I've had the itch to try a foldable for years now and finally decided to scratch it.
It's way overpriced at the moment.

I concur, it is too expensive right now as Oppo is riding the hype train at the moment. So fair game to cash in now before another shiny new gadget comes along and they have to drop their prices. I just needed a new phone right away and a fold was one I always wanted, so this made sense for me.
Holding out even 4-6 months when a slew of new foldables are slated to come out will definitely be a great move too.

These are marketplace listings mate. When things go south, you won't find Big W sticking its neck for these sellers. Its entirely on your own risk. And that is if you even get the phone in the first place. Read plenty of negative reviews for marketplace sellers and was dreading buying from one.
With the conventional stores you are covered for 2 years and they have the full responsibility. This is why I was trying so hard to get the JB HiFi reps to give me a better deal for the last few weeks or so.

ive had the N3 for few years. Great device
foldables are like a high end euro car - expensive new, great when they work and pray that if you have issues its still in warranty because out of warranty - which at 1 year or (2nd if you cough up even more money). costs a bomb to fix to the point of usually uneconomic to repair for which is a fairly fragile product that retails new around 3000 - ex fold 4 owner.

It's a folding phone, so it has two screens and is more comparable to buying both a small tablet and a normal phone. It's also the best folding phone available and the pricing is in line with the others. They cost more to make and have much higher warranty servicing costs. For some people they are worth the money, otherwise even a $200 phone is very usable for 90% of people nowadays.

Damn. Ive been researching the OPPO N6 for the past month. Everything about the hardware has great reviews but i just cant get myself to like ColourOS… and the factory case with the pen is such a bad design… for thise getting it, the Aus OPPO official store is also doing 2799 so you can get the Orange for the same price.
What the? I thought Oppos were meant to be one of the no-name / budget brands that people bought because the other brands got so over priced for what you got with them…

Lol do you think OzBargain is exclusively for those looking for a budget or midrange phone? If they're good enough for you, that's cool and there's plenty of deals for you but some of us want/need the highest end flagships and foldable variants costing this much is simply the case. While we all wish it was cheaper, this is absolutely a deal for many people here as you can see. The site is to help people shopping at all price ranges find good value bargains, you're at the wrong place if you want to resist interactions with consumerism.
Oppo phones are so expensive here. Even the X9 Pro, which was released a while back, still costs $2200. Crazy!
I am using brand new Oppo Find X9 pro 512gb. Purchased around 1000 AUD (claimed national subsidy) No issue at all. With Goggle Play, Google Wallet, etc. Very happy.

Ive used z fold 7 and fold 6 for wifey, i still keep all the samsung note and z fold since 1st gen for collection. Not about money but its my hobby to keep all handsets since i was young. So i am a huge Samfan

Im a heavy user and working in construction so i take about 40 calls a day and z fold 7 or s26 ultra last me till midday only while in find n6 i still have about 15% when bed time. Incredible
Nice to hear your experience.. do you use inner screen much? So the battery depends on which screen you use the most. I have seen Average Dad yt channel complains about the battery comparing with Honor Magic v6..
Ive used inner screen a lot mate due to sketch floor plan for work. I dont have time to sit on compiter while onsite then mostly doing my work on the find n6
