I ordered these socks. you have to cut open the top with a Scissor like you are opening a packet.

Made of Acrylic/Polyester. Genuine question - is this ideal for work boots or should I pay more for cotton socks?

This is false, these are all made worse by cotton socks.
Wool or Bamboo are much better than Cotton if you can afford it.
"Bamboo" aren't really bamboo, they're semi synthetic and the fabric is called rayon. Just more greenwashing BS
Go for a mix of wool and a synthetic material, such as polyester.
Wool for wicking sweat and regulating temperature.
Polyester to strengthen the fibres, because wool by itself is not very durable and pure wool socks will get holes in them relatively quickly.
Cotton socks aren't great, they tend to retain sweat and become a good breeding ground for athletes foot and smelly feet.
Are they good?
