Yes, JB hi-fi Mobile uses Telstra wholesale network.
I thought they had the same coverage as Telstra’s main network? Did something change? I haven’t really been paying attention to this.
They do. It's not wholesale.
@tp0: It should be part of the Wholesale network, from what I can recall this change was done when they introduced the JB Hi-Fi Mobile branding. Case in point, I use Boost and my mum is on JB Mobile, and her reception is usually not as good as mine.

Would this be the cheapest method of getting a flagship phone on a plan? I get given $100pm for phone allowance so outright doesn't help me.
There's nothing bargain or cheap about a phone plan for $99 a month - pass.

The previous method allowed you to cancel for $800. They have obviously changed T&Cs to prevent the old OzB method. Not worth it.
yes it was even less than $800 & plenty of us jumped on that then JB's realised what was happening & changed the T&C's

It's a very easy deal to beat; a lot of people don't go on to it to stay… Tell us how you use your phone?
I use it for work emails , social media, navigation, spotify, youtube etc, probably use 20-40gb most months, I go overseas semi regularly and buy a travel sim.
So this deal $699 + $99 x 24 totals to $3075.
Assuming you buy the phone outright from Apple for $1999, that leaves you room for $1076 to spend for 24 months, ~$44.83 per month.
There are a lot of plans that are cheaper than that. Personally, I would go with Aldi's $39 75GB plan since it comes with free International calls, you can still 2FA while overseas or for whatever reason needing to call before you travel.
But that really depends on how your allowance is allocated.

Optus has the same phone on $83.28/month for 24 months. (But the 512GB model is the sweet spot for $99.93/month)
Cheapest plan is the $60 Promo Plan discounted to $39 for the first 12 months.
If you sign up to the plan, then cancel the phone part after the first month, you will still have a bill of $83.28 for two years for the phone.
Out of pocket first invoice: $83.28 + $39 - $100 = $22.28.
For JB deal, you are out of pocket $699, so you have $676.72 to spend on any plan to cover the 23 months remaining (~$29.42/month).
Presumably the allowance practice is why those phone deals still exist.
I wonder what happens if someone genuinely finds the phone incompatible and wants to back out. Do they just refund you the $699 and ask you to buy a different phone?

on a side note i have been tracking the $99 plan and $1200 gift card is the highest its been (not counting discounts like this one where you have to spend it on a certain product).
works out to $49 a month for 300gb.
cheapest i have seen it (given 18 months ago) was $89 a month with $1200 giftcard.
wonder if it will come around again as im waiting to port the wife back in.
They also use to be 12 month plans not 24.
hasn't been 12 months for about 5 years. that's never coming back. also the gift card was 600-800 back then so also able to get better deals (but able to message telstra and get a $10 a month credit), don't need to port out every year anymore as well.
got to roll with the punches of life. everything is going up but still need to find the best deal.
with the $1200 giftcard works out to about $49 a month anyway. (just think of it like your buying a giftcard over 24 months) as long as your not wasting the money on stuff you dont really want, we use it on phones, home appliances etc. they dont expire.
