They've re-entered international markets after focusing on domestic (China) for a few years.
I have the GT6 which was the first international release after their return.
Will amazon refund if Vodafone or optus bans the phone? They seem very trigger happy for non local sold phones.

No they won't refund because the bans have a courtesy period to allow for international tourists, the result is you'll be stuck with $1000 phone that can't work as a phone
as others have said, amazon is pretty forgiving with its refunds. So long as you don't over abuse the system they are pretty generous in this area. My advice is to test as soon as you get it, and if it's not up to stuff then apply for the refund…..Don't leave it 6 months then apply for refund.

It's related to that 000. Australian legislation requires phones to be able to make 000 calls on the 4G (e.g. VoLTE or equivalent) and it's up to the mobile networks to test and confirm that phones are able to do so. Telstra and Optus (to an extent) actively tests all phones that come into the market. Vodafone doesn't. Vodafone do an extra piece by forwarding that ban to other networks to any unsupported phone that connected to their network. It's a headache to get your phone unblocked from a network that supports your phone.

The downside is supervooc charging. Had this on my old Oppo Find X3 Pro, not a lot of power bank options to get the full charge rate. Although at least this has 55w PPS, my Find X3 Pro was stuck at 18w in Bali.
Aside from that, looks better than my Poco F8 ultra for cameras. Also good that it comes with 16gb ram, some brands have started dropping down to 12gb.
Serious question. Why would anyone want to buy this import phone over a legit Aus model?
No local warranty, possible local compatibility issues, big chance of it being bricked due to lack of updates etc. I cannot see an upside other than thinking the overseas model might be a tiny bit better?
I have a lowly Edge 50 Neo and it does everything I need it to do. And it does it well. I have no reason to replace it anytime soon unless I see an insanely good deal on a Signiture.
This is like wanting a Mustang over a Falcon in the late 60's early 70"s when the Falcon was clearly the better car for our conditions. Or these days, any American car vs any Camry:) Might look flasher, but the reality for day to day is very different:)

You can get a Pixel 10 for the same price, so I agree, I don't understand why would someone spend $1k on a phone which can't even connect to a local network (not that I would use Vodafone, Vodafone doesn't work in half of Sydney), and has no warranty basically.
Another reason is to send it to another country. It's a really good deal if I want to send it to my brother back home. He would love this. The after market support is already not that good there besides iPhone. :(

Direct competition of honor magic 8 pro for approx 400 less
Realme phones were great when you could get a decent mid range phone for about $350-$400. Loved my Realme 7 5G and only moved on to a Moto G86 Power end of last year when it was on sale. At this price I'd stick to a known brand. But I'd rather not have an expensive phone to be honest. Under $500 is my sweet spot.
at this price point the 1tb model on ali can be had for much the same.

How does this compare to the xiaomi 17T pro? I believe thats roughly around the same price right now off the official Aus xiaomi store. (With a free Redmi tablet).
IMO Realme software (based on OPPO's ColorOS) is better than HyperOS but otherwise the hardware is fairly close. Also the Xiaomi is definitely better value considering the "free" tablet.
