        Handy. Fair chance though you would want to be on the Telstra network, which Aldi does, and much depends on how you set the camera up as to how much data it will use.

    I have the one that's just WIFI, having issues with it when the battery is too low (rainy season). The camera will completely shut off and can't be connected on the app. As I've mounted it really high up, I'm told that I need to plug the camera to a wall power supply to re-enable the camera.

        Mine is connected to the solar panel that it came with.

        Obviously there's no sun to charge the camera during winter time so the camera died (*completely disconnected) without any warning.

            @carrawa: Yeah you can and typically for my case, the angle of the sun changed during winter season.

      The battery use and discharge will depend on your settings. Typically consecutive overcast days aren't a problem, however these cameras can be finicky (and frustrating). What is the battery level showing in the app? Or will it not show any camera information?

        I’ve set the camera to enable tracking and spotlight. Usually I’d get low battery warning on the app but this one is disconnected from the app entirely due to zero battery left.

          The simplest thing to allow reconnecting to the camera in my experience is to take it down, charge it over power, and see if you can connect to it once charged. If that doesn't work then reset the camera and scan the QR code on the camera base via the app. It may recognise the device, or you may have to set it up again.

          Reolink has user manuals for each camera on their website, if you don't have your paper copy handy.

            @cornbeef: My fear is that how many times I need to repeat this process whilst in winter with terrible sun conditions.

            I have 13kw solar panels and on bad days, I hardly get 3-4kw daily. Summer on the other hand I can get up to 100kw

              @xenoic: I wouldn't have thought Melbourne would have solar issues any time of the year.

              Nonetheless, the battery can drain faster depending on the settings used, so you may want to look at this for the winter gloom.

              Does your model have an in-built battery, or can it be removed?

                @cornbeef: Mine has a built in battery. During summer it retains >80% battery everyday until the next morning sun comes up to charge the unit. We had almost a whole month of cloudy days with rain in Melb last month. That has ultimately killed the unit and put it to sleep.

                  @xenoic: Hopefully charging it once will see it through winter, given that it sounds like it's not in an easy to reach location. Perhaps you can relocate it to a more accessible position? Reolink cameras can on occasion be frustrating with battery life and data management, particularly those with sim cards on 4G.

      First step is to work out whether you will be running it via wifi connected to your internet, or remotely using a sim card. Do you have power available, will it be facing in a fixed position or do you want pan and tilt function, what resolution are you after - these sort of things.

        I want one with solar to put it in the back yard as I'm next to a park and theives could jump over the fence.
        Wifi will be fine, but not sure if a sim card has any other advantages?
        But even just Wifi + Solar, they still got so many products

          Best to check that the location you intend to put the camera has a strong wifi signal. Sim card 4G cameras are for when you have no wifi or PoE, as they use the mobile cellular network.

          Depending on your budget it may be worthwhile checking the Argus 3 Ultra with solar panel. It costs around $150 and may match your needs.
