  • Attach all the superlatives they want, its still $25/litre.

    • But it's ULTRA !

    • Yes, and looking at the Cobram Corantina - any olive oil with a similar amount of polyphenols (the stuff that makes olive oil healthy) is closer to $100+ per litre. Compare with similar ones overseas (including Greek or Croatian local market) and this is still much cheaper.

Ever since I deep dove this topic I've always made sure to stock up when they're on sale

      • More polyphenols per $?

      • Did a bit of AI research - Lovrekn seems to be correct, for a supermarket EVOO it is very good. And at half price, it's a good deal.

        Thank you!

    • Not muh diddy oil!

      • Can we not make light of rape, please.

    • How about whale oil?

    • (the d-votes indicate you're mistaken)

    • This is what confidently wrong looks like everyone.

  • 25/L no thanks

  • If you want to use your own olives ( or a friend’s tree) you can have your own ( mixed with other locals) olives processed for between 0 per litre ( usually capped at about 25 kg of your olives per person) and $12 per litre for locally processed extra virgin oil. Local councils often offer this service as do other volunteer groups. For example in the Geelong area there is “Barwon Olive Barrons” ( which I’m a member of) that is a group of volunteers that collect the olives, send them for processing and help distribute back to the people that dropped them off. Just finished the distribution back last Sunday. Saves olives going to waste and you get to use your locally sourced extra virgin oil.

    • Agreed. But also bear in mind, and it's a minor consideration, you are going to get back pooled olive oil. Some people seem to think they'll get back their specific olives pressed as oil. Most of these services you just get a share of the batch that is pressed that day/week. No issue with that, but FYI.

      • True. However the volunteers check/ look at every tub/ bucket of olives that come to the check points. We reject any that we feel may not be up to scratch. We reject old, ones that look like they have been raked up with sticks ground contamination. Over the years I feel that the potential problem of poor quality has vastly improved. And basically been eliminated. At the collection point I was at this year none were rejected and all loads were looked at. The quality of the oil produced this year was of great quality. They are processed at a commercial olive oil producer. Check local councils and facebook community groups.

        • Thanks for this nugget of wisdom, I will look around in my area and see.

  • I tried the Picual and it was not it

  • Which one has the most flavour?

  • Ultra premium

    Lol

  • In all the logical sense, local produce should be cheaper than imported, but it's entirely opposite here in Australia.
And for those who would scream about higher wages here, farm workers are paid pennies, much lesser than even the lowest wages of those countries where that cheaper olive oil comes from..

    • If local was cheaper why would anyone buy heat&light sensitive oil that's shipped across the oceans?

    • Olive oil produced in Australia has stricter standards than Europe. European oils sold as “extra virgin” are more than likely not extra virgin and have been produced with heat and chemicals; and the extra travel time degrades the oil (regardless of where the oil is made, recent harvest date is extremely important - there’s no point buying a 4L container unless you are producing a lot of food).

      • That's before you even get into the fact that there are fake olive oils being sold all over Europe, including within Italy itself - cut with much cheaper oils

It's nice to have peace of mind that a local olive oil is the real thing.

      • How does ALDI brand The Olive Tree Mediterranean origin compare any idea? It says product of Spain but meets Aus compliance standards so hopefully tested enough to not have any nasties. Worried as I have been using it regularly

    • Are farm workers the only labour and costs involved in producing olive oil in Australia?

      • Water! Apart from that, Cobram's capital costs per litre are reducing rapidly as trees mature.

        • Do you buy it from Cobram directly? Or do you also have to pay for all the middlemen involved in getting it to a location that you can buy from? Are the wages of those middlemen dirt cheap like farm workers as well?

  • It costs a little more but your chicken will get an extra 10km

  • I’ll wait for the ultra pro version to go on sale

    • Today we release the most amazing oil we have ever produced, and we think you're gonna love it.
Introducing the Ultra Pro Max, available for pre-order in two weeks.

      • Sounds like the other lube.

  • When does the Supreme Mega Ultra Premium drop?

  • Just wondering if it's worth purchasing an oil press and do your own olive oil?

  • People expect too much from supermarket EVOO lol

    • It's not even healthy, especially when you heat it up lol.
Then again, the stuff they are using it to cook is probably just as bad.

      • This is entirely untrue. EVOO is incredibly healthy, even when used for cooking oil.

        • It's totally optional and you don't need much. 9cal/g.. a lot of people over it and oil is in a lot of processed foods, which leads to obesity and heart disease.

          • @G-Shock: I take 3 tablespoons of extra olive oil every day

  • I love it!

  • bought some, but as it's a small (500ml) bottle it's something to use in small quantities as a treat in a salad dressing and such, and not recommended for deep frying due to a) expense, and b) maybe lower smoke point

  • Bought 2 bottles of these and I can't taste the difference between this premium one and the regular Cobram 750ml bottles

  • The only good Olive are the food and the group called Olive, look it up (1995 goodness)
