whoa. Bambu Lab and Bricks and Minifigures should get together for a beer and talk about how they flushed their company's reputation over trivialities…

Brick by brick

I won’t support a company that acts like that. Many options available at similar price and similar quality

Can you suggest another option?

Snapmaker u1, flashforge creator 5

You do realise pretty much all 3d Printer companies are in breach of AGPL expect for Prusa.

I was thinking to buy one and upgrade until I heard their news on making people use their cloud. Nah not for me.

I changed my mind after seeing it as well.

Can somebody explain what the controversy is with buying this brand?
- 0

Not really worth worrying about to be honest.
- -3

3D printing tech was built on open source community.
Bambu took one of the open source tools (Prusaslicer) and based their own software on it, but locked it down and refused to comply with licensing requirements.
Community found a legal workaround, Bambu threatened to sue the dev until Louis Rossman stepped in and made it a big deal. They're certainly not the only printer company guilty of open source violations and anti consumer practices, but given their size their actions set a precedent for others to follow
- 2

Well not fully correct, it is only the network plugin that in violation. Bambu Studio is open source. OrcaSlicer was built from Bambu Studio. Also they are not the only ones https://x.com/josefprusa/status/2059749848983711810?s=20
By the way the dev also throught what he was doing was not legal.
Creality have been doing vialations for a long time with custom locked down version of clipper etc.
Either you stop complaining about Bambu Labs or go after all of them.

Buy Snapmaker U1 if you are into multi colour printing. P2S (P1, X1, A1 so on) is no good for multi colour printing as it wastes too much filament and takes too long time.
Get an U1 or wait for how other brands will release U1 like cheap clones. Most of printer makers are releasing multi tool heads machines like U1 soon.- 2

Bambu H2c vortek
Flashforge creator 5
Sovol M1d
Creality K3
Prusa INDXnew age of toolchangers

Flashforge Creator 5 has been released to undercut the U1, but not sure what pricing is like here.
No doubt there will be many more toolchangers available 6-12 months from now.As you said, multicolour printing has moved on from these single nozzle multiplexers with good reason
- 0

Single nozzle still has its place.
I print a lot on A1 mini because it's so quick and easy.
- 0

For sure, I only have single nozzle printers myself so can't say much hahaha
Just depends on your use case. Also the A1/AMS Lite has the advantage of all 4 filament tubes running to the toolhead, so it only has to retract a short distance to swap.
Compared to the p2s which only has 1 filament tube so you've gotta retract all the way back to the AMS to swap. It's pretty much the least ideal setup possible- 0

@3dprintdeals: How are you liking the U1? I’m about to order one. What about it makes it take a lot longer to print something?
- 0

@thegieche: It's great fo multicolour and mixed material (support interface etc).
Just for small random things, it's easy to print straight from bambu app on my phone without having to go to my pc and slice.
The filament unloading/loading process also takes a bit of time but it's pretty automatic.
