Wifi 7 doesn't mean it needs to include 6Ghz. It's a bit confusing.

Question for the more knowledgeable people of Ozb - I'm no IT guy, but I'm moving into a house from an apartment. Just want a mesh network that covers the house, and works well from the front of the property to the back so it covers off security cameras, assuming I get around to installing them. Peak internet usage i can envisage is me streaming sports while I WFH, and the missus is at home and also streaming something and security cameras are doing their thing. I don't even know what backhaul is. Is this good enough and a good deal for me? Also would hope it future proofs anything else I buy in the future. Ta

'Backhaul' or wired backhaul = ethernet cable connecting mesh WIFI machines.
because of the wired connection, each WIFI-machine can have same or similar speed and coverage as the router (WIFI machine) that is hooked up to your main internet connection point (NBN box or otherwise).
Thanks guys. Im moving from the apartment to a house, I dont want to run ethernet cables around if I can help it. Length of the block is 40m I'm hoping to get coverage over wirelessly to cover future security cams if possible using something like this
Wifi works best without walls. Once you add walls, then the more likely you need more nodes to strengthen the signal. But if you have so many devices connected then youll want triband for reliability.
Can connect the nodes via a powerline adapter as well. It servers as a fairly decent back haul. Need to make sure that they are on the same circuit.

I did the same few years back . Got a netgear Orbi . Make sure it’s a tri band and never had a single issue . I have one router in front and 2 satellite .. one mid and one at back and that’s all I ever needed..
Regarding usage I see what I have listed is very normal and a tri band should suffice.
FYI for cameras I got Reolink
Ideally you would want your iot, internet if things like security cameras, on another network like a guest WiFi, as they aren't secure

If it's not a big house, a two or three nodes mesh should cover it adequately.
Otherwise, if you don't want to run long ethernet cables between the nodes, you could use powerline adaptors (which plug into your wall power outlets and connect to the nodes with patch cables as wired backhaul). You'll need to find two or three outlets that are on the same electrical circuit - by isolating each one on the circuit breaker in turns and trying out each outlet to see if it's still powered.
Assuming you can find two or three conveniently located outlets that are on the same circuit, it should offer better performance than 6GHz wireless backhaul on a tri‐band router, especially if the nodes are separated by internal walls or a floor.

I have these, and they aren't any better than stuff like Mercusys Halo H25BE which often go for much cheaper. If you're spending almost $400 on wireless routers, spend a bit more and get something tri-band.

Noob here. Can i still have a dedicated 2.4gz with different network name (band steering). I know these have lot network. But not sure if cast will work as i have 6 nest mini speakers across house that i cast music from phone. Want to make sure they get recognised.

From my experience with Deco, the IoT network is just a separate SSID for IoT devices to connect to so that they don't crowd out the Wi-Fi that the devices you use are connected to. That way, you can for example, restrict the IoT one to 2.4GHz since most IoT devices only operate on that anyway. It doesn't create a VLAN or otherwise restrict the IoT devices from communicating with the rest of your home network without extra configuration.
It sounds like exactly what you want it to do. I'd still go with a tri-band one though.
Picked it up from OW with price beat. Set up took maybe 10mins. Crazy. Then a bit of configuration and playing around for 30 mins to optimise. Now getting no less than 200mbps around the house and close to the node 400+. I'm an a 500/50 plan. Pretty satisfied for the price. One node is wired backhaul and the other wireless.
Side note, I have my pc connected by ethernet cable to the wireless node and it gets 500+ Mbps. So that's pretty neat.
