  • Any deals from Sydney?

  • Flying time to save people the click. I feel like this is good info to include along with the layover time in future posts to help people decide if it’s worth a stop or direct.

    Departing
    9:45hr to Shenzhen
    3:55hr to Osaka
    Returning
    4:20hr to Shenzhen
    10:05hr to Melbourne

    • Only JAL and ANA deals would be mostly direct flights…

Can already tell from the airline.

      • Agreed. I think you can also add Qantas and Jetstar for direct options from some Aust cities - for those inclined - not me ;)

  • Oooh, that’s quite good. And a good time to go.

  • Universal Studios Japan is freakin awesome during October with the Halloween themed activities

    • If Halloween in USJ is your thing then don't miss Chucky's Nightmare. It R18+ so kids not allowed for the ride/run 😱 but its bloody fantastic.

  • Good weateher to travel at all time. No brainer.

  • 2 x 23kg = 46kg?

    • Up to 2 and each one can up to 23kg.

    • yes you read that right

  • what about sydney?

    • Username checks out 🙄

        • 2x 23kg luggage. i'm struggling to think of how to elaborate on this

        • Were you looking at the earlier version of op's post? Meant to be checked in luggage allowance, typed in short form (2x 23kg bags). Generous allowance but probably standard for economy tickets. ANA/JAL/PAL offer 2x 23kg but I've only just noticed ANA's sales fares sometimes only allow for 1x 23kg

    • There's an upper limit on how heavy a single bag can weigh, and it's 23kgs. You can have two of them up to 23kgs each. I think there's also a limit on dimensions, you need to check with the airline. @Itwo

  • No surprise the price doubled if flying from Adelaide!

    • Adelaide gets to live up to its name of being one of the most expensive cities to live in right…

  • Out of curiosity how is Shenzen Airlines compared to other ones that go to Japan? Haven't been to Japan yet but just seeing what options exist and how they are?

    • Pay at least double to fly direct.

    • Cathay Pacific was a good mid-range option and JAL was a good direct option. After flying direct I don’t think I would go back to doing layovers. Once you factor in all of the extra time and fatigue I don’t think it’s worth the savings.

  • Instead of flying to Osaka, is it possible for me to just travel to Shenzhen?I've always wanted to go to that city to splurge on electronics…

    • Better off splurging in Japan imo

    • basically download aliexpress, temu, taobao or pingduoduo…. whatever you see there is multiples of what you can find in shenzhen/huaqiangbei and also with the convenience of not needing to navigate multiple buildings/floors.

    • Just fly to HKG and train over. I saw PER HKG return on Cathay for under $1000 a few weeks ago. Excellent deal (ended up booking to Beijing for $100 more instead).

  • Is it possible to do a longer layover in SZ?

  • Curious. Why would anyone take 46kg to Japan? Never understood these deals.

    • It’s what you bring back…

    • sporting equipment, snow boards, ski's ? pretty sure this is a major Japanese draw card, not just ramen packets

      • Got it. Unsure why I copped so many downvoted but shame on me for being curious I guess!

        • curiosity killed the cat

  • I wish Perth got cheap flights to Japan like this! Crazy good deal considering the luggage you get.

  • Play around the dates via multi-leg for a free stopover in Shenzhen. For example, 29AUG MEL-OSAKA VIA SZX, then 05SEP OSAKA-SZX finally 07SEP SZX-MEL. There are a few possible combinations depending on your length of trip.

  • Sadly a lot of the september/oct/nov flights are gone…

  • @IWantThatFlight - do you know if there will be any more in late sep/oct for 2 week itins?

  • *Shenzhen Airlines (typo in title)

  • Anyone have experience with Shenzhen airlines, anything to be aware of?

  • Have checked every link and nothing below $800 appears for me. What am I doing wrong?

    • I'm seeing flights at sub 700 now only for dates departing early sept.

Dont think its you, they had those seats listed above initally but seem to be all gone now. When i had a look, there were <3 seats for those itineraries
