Got S26 Ultra 512gb for ~$1500 earlier this year, this looks not that great in comparison.
Not even close to the same sort of phone but the Xiaomi 17 destroys the regular S26 that it is similar to.
if they offered samsung levels of software support i would probably make the switch.
They're supposed to be doing 6 years (on these higher end ones at least) so they're getting real close. Not sure how fast they are with updates, nor Samsung for that matter, as I have Pixels.

international models are fine, espeically if you buy it from Australia
only the chinese models are blocked with some carriers
I'm super interested in buying something like an Oppo phone, China phones seems to be way better feature set per $ but I'm worried there'll be some deal breaker feature that won't work like VoLTE and I won't know until I import it.
Back when I had a OnePlus 7 VoLTE didn't work so the phone was useless to even do a google search if I was on a phone call.
Is that no longer a problem anymore?

just from my experience, any phone that's offically sold in Australia, like these xiaomi from mi.com/au or oppo via jbhifi etc is safe.
I always wanted to get a Sony phone from Japan, but again I'm not sure how well it will work with our networks over here.
Global versions have always been fine in Australia. Just don't buy the ones meant for Chinese residents.

Be careful with buying the X9 Ultra as it's not sold in Australia, could get blocked by the telecos.
From what I have researched it seems to be working (whirlpool forum). I also have the Sony xperia viii on the list to act as my DAP, the micro SD card is a huge draw for me.
I mean if you have done your research, fair enough, do you mind me asking how much you could get one for these?
@itsmoe: Insane amounts of money, i'm not sure if this is the new normal, my current phone is a S23 Ultra 1tb. The X9 Ultra is around $2100, the sony is $2050. That seems like an insane amount on money to spend on a phone.
My wants are a good camera (detest samsung photo quality, not sure how anyone likes their colour grding) and large storage for my music (self confessed audiophile)
@Archaleas: Yeh it's crazy prices, I've seen the X9 Ultra for a lot more than $2050, I mean the X9 Pro is going for more than that, just make sure you are not looking at the Chinese Model with the Global ROM, those will most likely cause you issues with Google Services here and will be missing a lot of bands.
I have the S25U and I'm not a crazy photographer, I think the camera is fine but I had the Pixel 8 Pro previously and prefer the natural colors on the Pixel by miles, not sure how they are on the X9 Ultra or the 17 Ultra.
Also, I rely on Google Music, does the job for me, so my 256gb model does the job but I can see how you would want more space, and if that is the case, the Audio Jack and DAC would stand out a lot in your case with the Xperia.

Hi - Im looking to grab one as my Oppo X5 Find is probably on its last legs….. I wont have any issues with these in terms of compatibility with optus/phone being blocked? And as silly as a comment as this is, using particular apps / play store? are those issues more with the overseas models?
This is the global version so everything should work fine. It's a different story with the China model. Hope this helps
