The first time these sealed packs have been on sale. These are the same as the compact packs with 21700 cells, but are sealed and rated IP57.

These have retailed for $99 each since they were released a couple of years back.

  • Genuine deal, should be getting more up votes. Especially since the old 3 pack has been pulled from the website. Now I just need a deal on 3 x 8Ah.

        • Nope it doesn't work that way, as FlintSkin said it wouldn't make sense.

          The Ah adjustment is software based, limiting max charge and min discharge to extend their life.

    • Would like a couple of 8.0AH myself. Been keeping an eye on them for ages, but I have never seen them on sale, and can't bring myself to pay full price

      I suspect they day they do, it will crash Bunnings website:)

      • I like waiting for a good deal like everyone else here, but don't fall into the trap of waiting for a deal that might not come. And don't fall into the trap of waiting when the amount saved ends up being worth less than the additional months of utility you get from buying sooner.

        If having those batteries today instead of next year isn't worth anything to you, then you didn't really need the batteries at all, did you?

            I have printed some adaptors for my Ryobi tools and these batteries do a great job and they are a LOT cheaper then the Ryobi batteries.

            The 36V ryobi batteries are very expensive too, much more affordable buying these Ozito packs

        • I am so grateful that you were able to find the time to give me advice on my purchasing choices and on how I spend my money:) All good, just messing. You are correct in general though.

          I currently have 8 Ozito batteries, and to be fair they are enough. But a couple of the bigger ones will be useful in the near-ish future just for backup lighting. If the 8.0AH happen to go on sale in the meantime, I will grab 1 or 2. If not, I will reassess then.

          • @revheadgl: You can't deny that those were very wise - even sage - words. One often makes the mistake of replying when it is best to keep quiet, but then you may also fall into the trap of remaining silent when something is better off to be aired.

  • Very tempted. Are they same size as the 2Ah?

    • They are bit bigger in every dimension. I don't have a 2,0ah to measure but I do have a 2.5ah

      2.5ah is 125mm x 82mm x 48mm

      This is 130mm x 83mm x 50mm

      Measurements are just rough using a tape so might be out by a MM or so.

      • Do you have many tools to test fits?

        Aldi/Workzone didn't do a good job with their 8Ah design, doesn't fit many of their tools including ones where you want the grunt, the main reason for buying it.

          But all the other batteries I have (Sealed, Compact 4.0AH,, 2,5AH, Std 4.0AH) fit every Ozito PXC tool I own.

    • They'll come. I move between Queensland and NSW a lot and it's usually QLD that has better stock. There's a big difference just between Tweed and Robina.

    • I was able to purchase for delivery. Then I got a call from a store 4hrs away saying they can't fullfill the order as they can't send that amount of amps through post as it's deemed dangerous goods. They asked if I'd like a refund and I said no…she said she can see if my local store would be able to subsidise the batteries with equivalent e.g. 3 singles, so I agreed. Got to my local and they tried to give me 3 of the non compacts, I said no. They only had 2 of the 4 amp compacts in stock, but gave me them and 2x3amp compacts. So 4xbatteries (14amp total)for $129. Bit of an F around, but I thought the staff were great for this.

      • all the ones higher than 4.0ah and the multi-capacity ones. this one has identical performance to the old 4.0ah's that used to be 3 for $99.

        900w max output for these, compared to 1200-1300w for the bigger ones.

        • So would the mower, chainsaw etc run better with the higher output batteries?

          • @nuttapillar: Yes - also brushless tools especially. You're likely to experience less BMS cutoff when the voltage drops, since the bigger batteries will either have more banks in parallel and/or higher quality cells.

            I use the 5.2ah with my Makita mower and they perform about the same as the 5.0ah makita batteries, whereas the fat 4.0ah's struggle when the grass is even just a bit long or wet. Also works wonders in my dyson v8, just cranking it on max for most of the living areas in the house.

        • ChatGPT is dumb and this is 'correct' though entirely wrong and using hypothetical top of the line cells like Samsung/Molicel that you don't find in Ozito batteries. I posted a teardown a while ago here https://imgur.com/a/A3NwI20

          The fat 18650 batteries use cheap cells that would never sustain 25A each, it might hypothetically be able to do 900W burst but never sustain it. From memory they had 15A continuous discharge rated cells which would put the battery at around 550-600W

          I opened the 4AH compact as well which isn't in that link above but couldn't see the exact markings on any cell, but I believe they were TP 4000ah cells from the look, what I found on Alibaba and based on the other batteries I've opened, so again, no Samsung/Molicel

          The compacts use bigger cells, so they are able to maintain a higher discharge capacity and won't die as quickly in high drain tools - peak stats might be framed to make them look close in performance but the reality is that they aren't the same because of physics

            The batteries use decent quality cells. Eg if you look up the spec sheet for the Tenpower MH46259 18650 cells in the 4Ah battery in your pics, they are rated for up to 30A continuous.

            The power rating is a nominal rating as 30a at the pack voltage results is lower power over time.

            I've used a bunch of those 4Ah batteries for custom uses and you'll get 1000W+ peaks out of a freshly charged battery before the voltage drops. Average power at 50a over the entire discharge is about 800W for a newish battery.

            Tenpower cells are considered good quality cells. Not as good as Samsung but they are cheaper.

            Where the cheaper cells won't perform at well is capacity at max output. Eg the Tenpower 18650s give 95% of the rated capacity at 30A whereas a premium cell will give 100%.

            The wear characteristics are also likely not as good. Eg those 18650s are rated to 80% remaining capacity after 500 cycles at 20A but 70% if doing 500 cycles at 30A. Premium cells will wear better.

            But that's a perfectly fine trade off for the target market of home users.

    • Nah, they've had plenty of market traction for a while, and Ferrex (ALDI) are keeping Ozito prices down. Bunnings also wants to keep people locked into Ozito and Ryobi. If Ozito prices get too close to Bosch, people might start ordering those from Amazon instead of going into Bunnings. Bosch also has a larger range.

        the normal ones didn't have any goop on the electronics. the sealed ones do have goop. so I guess sealed means that.

        apparently goop is normal for most other brands (Makita etc) but Ozito cheaped out a bit and no goop on normal batteries.

    • Yes. IP57 rating, means it is dust resistant, and is resistant to water up to 1 meter deep for up to 30 minutes.

    The 2.0 and 4.0 standard packs use 18650 cells.
    The 2.5 and 5.2 packs use 20650 cells.
    The 6.0 & 8.0 and the sealed 3.0 & 4.0 use 21700 cells a does the compact 4.0AH.

      • It's not without some potential issues though.

        My Ryobi 18V impact driver temporarily shuts off when you press it down fully on the highest setting.
        I've yet to investigate it but could be a number of things.

        My Ryobi 36V inverter has been working beautifully tough.

    • It is all just branding, every 18V battery pack is 18650 cells half from the same supplier with a proprietary connector to lock you to systems like the old days where every company had their own connector instead of USB on computer devices.

      Electric motors are a simple science too and cheap as chips, the differences are build quality of the Chinese factory basically and how much they charge for the colour of the tool.

      • I mean, I tried my neighbour's Makita whipper snipper and it was an absolute beast. Made me want to get one. Then I looked at the price and decided to stick with my very sad Ozito whip.

      • I'm sorry but this is not entirely true.

        I have some Ozito batts myself for home use but I'm a builder and proper trade tool batteries are far superior to these. It's not just branding and the comparison isn't even close or me being pedantic.

        Everything is built to a price and use case and while these Ozito batts are awesome, they are basically the MG car of the tool battery world.

        Good enough, and compromised in areas that won't usually pose a problem for the majority of people using them.

        Perfect product for the intended market and I think it's a great thing that people don't need to fork out for functionality they don't require or for capabilities they will never reach.

        • Agree. My brother just picked up alot of the bosch professional (gardening) gear, all of it is single battery and is far, far, far better built and much more powerful than any of the ozito items.

  • Just a warning that the claimed capacity on these is bullshit. While the cells might be rated at 4Ah for a 10-hour discharge, the battery pack itself will cut off in more like 2.5Ah. I suppose other brands are similar?

    • I believe that's just the nature of batteries.

      I don't understand the exact reasoning but the battery's internal resistance will drop the voltage and also burn some energy off as heat (more apparent with higher loads).

      Since the protection circuit is looking to cut off at a certain voltage, this will cause it to cut off earlier.

      • The heat is from voltage drop, shouldn't directly affect the charge measurement.

        What bothers me is that even if you drain them really slowly, you still can't get anywhere near the claimed charge. If I you a brand-name powerbank or phone battery, you can expect they are telling the truth. But not these.

        • I've actually measure some a while back.

          The 8Ah ones I got ~7.7Ah @ 3A.

          I've also noticed the ozito chargers don't charge all the way to 4.2V/cell, so it is undercharging them a bit.
          Maybe I'll charge them all the way to 21V and give them a test.

          Powerbanks on the other hand are a little bit of a pet peeve of mine.
          The mAh rating they have on the package does not reflect what you'll get out of them at all.
          They can be anywhere between 0.5~0.8x depending on the efficiency of the conversion circuit.
          The average joe would probably buy a 5000mAh powerbank thinking it will fully charge their 5000mAh phone, but finds out it only does maybe 60%.

          • @wwwsam: Power banks are an interesting one (well, to me as testing them is part of my job).

            A good quality power bank will lose 10 - 15% of the rated capacity from the voltage conversion. It can vary a lot depending on the exact charge spec and voltage being used.

            Then you can often have a few more percent lost in the cable and connectors. More if it's a crappy quality cable.

            Then the phone itself will lose 10 - 15% of the incoming power when charging.

            So yeah only 75% or so will make it all the way to become actual power in the battery being charged.

            I don't tend to see that as purposefully misleading though as the way the mAh rating came to be used was just because it was an easy way to compare cell capacities back when power banks were extremely simple compared to ones now. Quality power banks will include a nominal capacity after efficiency losses rating which is typically around what will end up in the battery of the device being charged.

            Certainly though the companies don't tend to go out of their way to explain all this to consumers.

            And there are loads of power banks from dodgy brands where they outright lie about the cell capacity or use cells that can't sustain the rated output wattage.

        • I can't speak to the compact batteries but the larger 4Ah batteries have decently rated 18650 cells. I have used them in various non tool uses, from bare cells to whole batteries.

          I didn't have a constant wattage load tester at the time that could do 900W but at lower outputs (100W) I never had an issue getting the rated capacity.

          For reference the actual cells are rated for ~95% of nominal capacity at 30A discharge.

          However the BMS in the battery is quite protective of the cells when they are at low capacity. Which is a good thing as that's when most wear happens.

          So as the voltage drops as they run down the BMS will cut power if the voltage drops too far. This is especially noticeable if using a tool where the load varies a lot. As load increases, the pack voltage sags and the BMS cuts off power to the tool.

          For a high wattage tool this will happen after only a few minutes at full power. So it can definitely seem like the battery isn't giving full capacity.

          And of course to the user, it isn't. It's irrelevant that the cells can provide the rated current and capacity if the BMS doesn't let them.

          But for tools aimed at general home use, this is a reasonably trade off. Ozito PXC (Einhell) use quality parts that do provide the rated power and capacity. But then have tighter limits around sustained full power output to ensure longevity.

          Whereas premium tools will use cells that have higher ratings and better voltage curves under full load, so they can provide higher sustained output for longer. That's important to people using them for trade use or more demanding home use.

          But overall I wouldn't call any of the specs misleading and Einhell is pretty great quality for the price. Especially if you buy when on special, as is the OzBargain way.

            I was measuring the charge that went in after running to cutoff, as i did not have any test load. And yes, the BMS seemed over-protective, even at low current. I'll have to do some more tests. Was using them in ebike (2x2), aside from the usual powertools.

            • @bargaino: Just ran a test on the newer style 4Ah (non-sealed).
              Measured ~3.7Ah @ 1A.

              Starting voltage was about 20.7V (straight off an Ozito charger).

              Apparently this should increase a little with a few cycles.

    • These can be adapted to other devices. For example Dyson vacs, makita tools, Ryobi tools, etc. so if you have any number of devices that use batteries it's a cheap way to supply. Price is very good value considering what some of the other brands charge for similar capacity

    • Yes, I have a Dewalt cut off tool and it works fine with an ebay adaptor.

    • 94 grams less on my kitchen scales. I got 684g vs 590g

          So the main differences are these are sealed against dust & water with a rating of IP57. The also have a single row of five 21700 cells. They are 94g lighter by my scales and are a bit lower in height, but a bit longer and wider.

          The older ones have 2 rows of five 18650 cells. They do not have an IP rating and not dust resistant nor water resistant.

  • haha i read through this whole thread and thought ffs, 90% of the (profanity) responding here are dumbarse tradies to justify or not justify the output on a battery. mate, the rest of us dont care, we buy an adapter from aliexpress or print our own and thats it and we want cheapest value battery to output for our devices. You (profanity) go on about wattage and bullshit like your job depends on it and will die if it doesnt live up to specs.

  • Managed to grab a pack and take one apart.

    Pretty well sealed, my main gripe being it looks like they designed it for a rubber seal, but instead filled the channel with silicone.
    Would not recommend buying these if your intention is to take them apart.
    The blue ring around the outside is for aesthetics.

    Inside are 5x Tenpower INR21700-40TG cells.

    • A useful comment! Do you think the silicone seal would have had a round, square or more complex profile? I have plenty of sizes of round silicone cord on hand.

      • It's just the usual square channel you see in junction boxes etc.
        So a simple round one should be fine.
        I just don't know what kind of gap distance you'll be looking at between the top and bottom.

        Also I wouldn't suggest opening it as its difficult to do without damaging the case due to the adhesive.
