PlayStation 5 Console Disc 1TB Fortnite Flowering Chaos Bundle (Click and Collect Only) $829 @ Target

500

I just picked one up late yesterday. I was waiting for EOFY sales on PS5s and they never happened. I actually first saw the Standard PS5 1Tb consoles selling for 899. I went in to my local Target (Carlingford) and they were out of stock of them. The 825gb digital unit was 819.

The lady behind the counter says "I have the 1Tb Fortnight Edition". I tell her I don't really want to pay extra for the Fortnight Edition. She looks up the price and it's 829….. Sure, let's do that ! She was as surprised as I was. The consoles themselves are identical.

Controllers seems to be slightly discounted as well. I picked up a spare blue one for 104.

Sorry, I haven't posted earlier - was away from the computer. Web page still confirms the pricing of this wasn't an anomaly.

Note: Some have posted links to the 825Gb Digital Fortnight edition for $749

  • Don't forget price in title

    • Cheers - edited

    • i do find it funny they re-released the orginal ps5 disk verison which comes with a stand and disk drive, and all they upgraded was the storage from 825 to 1tb and then charged the launch price for it :D

      • That's just Sony being Sony mate.

      • Am I misreading what you're saying, or have they released the fat PS5 from 2020 again? Or just a slim but now it comes with a stand for free?

        • pretty much is a slimer disc verision with stand and disc drive included, and a slightly bigger ssd.

  • $829 Click and collect only item since title was missing it

    • added

    • It's crazy how you spell out exactly what's valuable about the Blu ray but seem to not care?

      • I did say its Killing the second hand market. ( i never said I'm ok with no more disk games).. I got down voted because people think i'm ok with it.
How did anyone get that from what i wrote

    • you will own nothing and be happy

        • that's the joke…

          • @eggboi: Supposed to have been said by some leader at WEF. And he wasn’t joking. He would represent those that would own everything in t hat situation of course.

Now it has become a cynical joke for precisely the opposite reason.

    • Rage

    • Sony will backflip when Microsoft announces a newfound commitment to physical games for the next xbox.

      • Xbox Helix not going to come with a disc drive. They were the ones trying to kill discs last cycle

        • Positron will surely require a disc drive.

        • They'll be mad if they don't offer an external drive, or some way to bring your older generation games onto it (Digital Foundry were saying maybe you can scan your discs but they are only good for one digital code each).

Xbox invested so much in backwards compat over the years, and I would buy Helix at a much higher price if it had a way to play all the prior generations (ideally with some frame and/or res boost) without the system having to be connected to a Microsoft server that will probably be shut down in 10 years or less.

          • @TimR31: Yeah seems like Xbox/Nintendo are going the way of virtual discs/carts, which lets them tie a physical copy to a console at a time

      • As awesome as that would be, latest rumours suggest they’re going in the same direction.

    • Not all games are like that. Most great ones isn't.
I'll happily skip any physical games that come with code in box.

    • I love fitgirl - PCMR

      • The point is games are getting expensive, like $100-$120 and console digital return policy like non existent, what if I play for 5 minutes and want refund for whatever reason? I would have much less problem with digital if I can play for say 1 hour or under and able to get refund no questions asked.

        • Lol obviously you aren't familiar with Sony's refund policies. You buy a game accidentally (don't know how that would happen but still) & you're screwed. Doesn't matter if you played the game for 5 seconds or 5 minutes..

          • @findthelimit: Ye, just download and you can't refund, what's the point of having a refund policy at all?

            • @worldpc: Only time Sony EVER did refunds was when Cyberpunk 2077 was released & obviously wasn't ready.

      • If your PS5 account is inactive for 3 years your account is automatically closed and all games that you purchased that are tied to your account are lost.
Not the case with disk games

  • sadly no stock anywhere near me!

    • It will become more valuable

      • i liked Rossman's take that its not physical thats the issue, its DRM. However he did miss the point that digital means less competition and more pricing control by sony

        • I think Rossman missed the point. DRM is annoying, yes, but the average punter just wants to be able to play their games anytime they want. Disc in console and go. People harbor memories from generations past and want to go back to them. From a preservation standpoint it is a net negative and we're worse off

    • Still get great use for as long as you keep the console.. And also they are killing them 2028 so you got a while.

    • If you have discs or still planning to buy discs or you want to use it as a UHD blu-ray player. Then, it is worthwhile.

Furthermore, the disc version is 1TB, the digital version, at least the latest batches, is 825GB.

    • No disc. If this is the case it is likely PS5 may be the last playstation I ever owned, and I've had all PS1 to 5.

      • and do you still keep them all?

        • No, only kept PS4. Have sold the older ones

    • May as well just get a PC, I fail to see the point of a PS6 if it’s basically a “walled in” PC controlled by Sony, and you’d be at the mercy of their digital store pricing. The primary advantage of consoles (physical media, lower cost) has evaporated.

      • Ud be paying $3k for similar specs

      • There was the Spiderman 2 for $10 digital deal (JPN store). I have Uncharted 4 both digital and physical. I was happy with the cheap upgrade to the digital PS5 version (and the movie voucher… though the movie wasn't great to be honest). That $2 PS Plus Extra special deal for a month was great too. I played heaps of games during that month. Ghost of Tsushima being one of them. Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is another one. No chance I can get physical disc version of Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut for $2 (even just for a month).

I've recently purchased a number of PS5 physical games. However, we are not seeing heavy discounts on first party physical discs like back in PS4 days. Honestly, for me, I want physical mainly to keep / collect. When playing, I prefer digital edition.

Sure, $ony is shrewd. However, people had been predicting console gaming will eventually be ending. If console gaming cannot survive this, then it might be best we don't even get PS6 and we just move to PC. Let's be honest, this is OZB. Are we really going to pretend OZBers can't think of a way to save money once Sony moved to all digital?

  • Very limited STORES ONLY

  • Ps6 not coming until late next year minimum. Possibly even 2028.

    • Why not get the ps5 pro?

      • Buying a $1200 console a year before the next gen comes?

        • Where can I get pro for only $1200 ?

          • @Tleyx: with a Time Machine before the price rise

          • @Tleyx: You can easily ask JB for price $1200. I did the bundle with disc drive for $1285 2 weeks ago and 2-3 jb agreed with this price

            • @Steven123: Ah k thanks. I saw $1399 tag and didn't think they would go that low

        • True, better to spend $380 less on a lesser console to still make a loss and get less trade in/sale value when PS6 comes out….

    • Its gonna be next year. Little more patience, where already for so long

    • I will say 2030 due to RAMageddon

    • I'm betting on 2028/2029.

  • I stopped buying digital until I 100% will play it. Rather than backlog it.

    Whereas I collect physical.

I guess it won't matter as I'll be a minority, but my game purchases will be rare in 2028. I probably won't even buy the next Sony console

    • I am in the same camp as you personally. I am no longer buying any new consoles. The last is the Switch 2 for me. The new console pricing will be ludicrous for starters. I had gotten the ps5 and xsx and switch 2 day one for reference too. (Along with many other previously day one)

I stopped buying games until they are around $30-40 at minimum on sale unless I really really want to play it.

      • I can't imagine living knowing my final console was a non-OLED

        • You even used/own a Switch 2 or you just going off of the majority of non owner opinions on the display?

    • Sony’s digital store would also probably be more expensive than Steam and GOG, taking into account the seasonal discounts they have. In addition to that, you’d be tied to Sony’s hardware.

  • Given the current (and inevitably rising) prices of SSDs, this move by Sony is going to hurt consumers even more. With 100% of games needing to play from the drive instead of utilising the disc, we'll be forced to work with limited HD space unless we're willing to open up our wallets for a larger drive.

    • PS4 & PS5 games don't stream data from the discs during gameplay, the full game is installed to the console's internal storage. There's no difference in the amount of storage used on the console when playing from discs as compared to digital downloads.

      • Yes but when you own a disk the 'cost' of installing and deleting games is lower than needing to wait for downloads, particularly if others in the house are trying to stream netflix or something.

        • Let's be honest, we would move games we might consider playing later on to external HDD, rather than delete them. PS4 games need to run from at least an HDD. PS5 games from SSD.

Buying discs so you can save hard drive space and re-install games again and again…. I get we want physical discs, but that reason doesn't make sense.

    • Can you imagine waiting for game loading times in 2026 to pull from discs though?

I'll take HDD loading over that lol.

I'm lucky enough to have bought a ps5 pro with a trade in close to release.. And I already had a 1tb nvme ssd in the original ps5 so I have 3tb. I also have a spare 1tb nvme I just pulled from my PC.

I feel bad for anyone trying to get into console or new pc market right now. I managed a full am5 swap a month before massive hikes and I'm glad I squeezed it in. (165 for 32gb 6000cl30 ram).

I'm not looking forward to the world of gaming in 5+ years time.. Monopolistic pricing and stores and you're just renting licenses.

There needs to be a way to transfer digital games as well as being able to 'forever download' a final version of a game. At least that way maybe we can maintain libraries of games locally/through connected HDDS or something which we can copy over as needed. Of course this still puts all the pressure and work on the consumer….

I've bought Sony since ps1, still have a ps2 slim, ps3 original with backwards compatibility, I went ps4 ps4 pro, ps5 launch and now ps5 pro, including ps portal, but man I'm hesitant to even consider the ps6. It's a shame.

      • You should check out GOG on your PC. They give a DRM free installer that can be downloaded and installed offline. You own the game.

  • Get the last disc version, dont open the box, wait for 20 years, profit

  • if this is the price now im sure we can see something decent come November

  • It's a bitter pill to swallow, but come GTA6 and Christmas time, when people realise they or their kids/grandkids can only play the hottest game of the decade on current gen (albeit at the end of their cycle), I wouldn't be surprised if consoles fly off the shelf at even their inflated RRP.

This could very well be one of those hindsight deals to regret missing out on.

    • 100%. People should get in now for early Xmas presents. Every kid in high school will be talking about this game, and kids get fomo hard. Good luck to all the parents out there!

    • gta6 + ps5 / ps5 pro = 30fps…….. :(

      • i think that will be the case for xbox series s tbh…

    • this is what im thinking, i think ill have to snag one up soon

    • If you look online, the Xbox Series X disc edition has sold out in a lot of places already. I snagged one up from the Big W toy sale because I had a feeling it will be more expensive and limited later.

  • Cheaper at BIGW?? But I see no stock near me or delivery options:

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/playstation-5-digital-editio…

Does anyone know if rainchecks will be allowed?

    • This post is for PS5 with the disc though…

    • Target also has the digital version for that price in the Fortnite bundle here. Stock will be very limited everywhere, people were buying lots of both types of this bundle prior to the price increase.

      • Interesting… looks like the Fortnight editions are all cheaper. No idea why. The consoles themselves are the same as the non-Fortnight ones. As far as I know, the difference is that you get some voucher for some free cosmetic stuff in Fortnight. My boy and I don't play Fortnight, so we don't care.

        • I believe it's all stock left over from Black Friday or something like that, we had them for months before they all sold.

  • when did the ps5 reach $1k rrp 😵‍💫 it will probably get even higher & sell out when gta6 comes out..

    • Looks like everyone is hedging for that day…

  • Any thoughts on this his bundle pricing being in anticipation of prime day deals coming to Amazon? Or would that be totally naive thinking prime day is going to be anything other than price jacking and discounted Alexa trash ?

  • @stucatz what firmware is it on?

    • Sony does put the latest firmware at the time that console was made on these.

You can forget about jailbreak on these.

    • Not sure. As soon as I plugged it in and connected it to the internet, it did a system update and a controller update. So, right now, whatever the latest is.

    • There was a chart online that show firamware number on different models. Place order, go to pickup and check model number. if that model number have higher firmware that current jailbrakable one then cancel the order. Latest one is 12.70 which i think was released in Feb. You might find ps5 in cash converter at lower price that still hasn't sold since Feb. Worth try

  • 1 left at each of the two Target locations:

    Target Springfield Orion
    Target Warrnambool

    • damn missed it ! now it’s just warrnambool wherever that is

      • where the hell is taht

        • Country victoria

      • You can try call around to some stores and give them the item code. There was a few stores around the country showing 1 SOH, which won't show up online.

  • Wowzers! Life is rough out here for a gamer.

  • The prices are creeping ever closer to the $1,000 mark….

  • I want a PS5 😭

  • Just popped in say thankyou. It's not listed online or in stock without the link for my store, so i called and they had one left. My son wanted one for Christmas. As a single dad, this helps a lot.
