Possibly, they haven’t always updated the ultra every year. Although rumours suggest that it could have a redesign this year… time will tell

The Apple Watch Ultra 4 is rumoured to be the biggest redesign of Apple's premium rugged smartwatch line since its 2022 inception. Expected to launch in September 2026, it is projected to feature a 15% thinner titanium case, an expanded 8-sensor rear array, and an ultra-efficient new chip.
Probably a 15% price rise too….
What the hell does this gives you at $1000?
At this price I would hope it's cooking by itself.

My apple watch ultra 3 saved my life recently.
Last week, there was 0cm snow at Falls Creek, Victoria.
I confidently went on a casual hike to Mt Mckay on my own.
It started snowing heavily and got lost. I couldn't see the track and what was in front of me.
The backtrack feature confidently navigated me back to the village.
I could have called a rescue chopper, but I didn't want to end up on prime time 6pm news.
Unsure if backtrack is available on cheaper second hand low-end non-ultra crapple watches.
I've also used backtrack feature to find where I parked my car. I could also achieve this with airtag hidden somewhere in the car.
I can relate all too well to this story. Been in white out conditions when skiing and i couldn’t even tell if i was still moving or stopped. We also got lost one day doing the back trail at a winery. We have the airtag in the car to find it in the car park and in the luggage it helps you get back to your accomodation.
Yeap, no worries, I get it.
For the mere mortals out there, an alternative, for me for example, when I go off-track like this I use my phone how with Geo Tracker or Phone tracker for this purpose. I chuck it in airplane mode so the power lasts a long time and off we go.
It must suck being a mere mortal.

Plus, I've missed the better part of 30 years of work experience and super in Australia and moved here with a 1yo and $3000/pocket and no friends/family to rely on, I really learned the value of $.
@Ooops: When i was little there were seven of us in a two bedroom house with one bathroom. I shared a bed with my oldest brother, my sister and middle brother shared a bed and my little brother was in a cot in my parent’s bedroom. Not a lot of spare money even though both my parent’s worked. No private schools for this little black duck.
I know the value of a $ as well. What I've also learnt is the Vimes rule on boots.

I’m willing to spend money on quality that lasts. If i’m going to use something everyday i want to be happy with it.
The thing is I've tried the product for a couple of years and i suspect you haven't.
Wait until you hear about the prices of some mechanical watches
Why aren't you okay with it? Are you unaware of all the features an Ultra smartwatch has over a normal smartwatch? It's not for everyone but it's considered life saving for many.
I'm not aware of any features that it offers that other, more affordable, brands don't offer or what an $130 phone can't solve during that special occasion when you need to track yourself in the bush.
You can argue as much as you want over this, at the end at the day it is a want not a need and that's ok. Use whatever justification you want to get it lol
Look, everyone is different, personally, I would rather want to have $1000 more in my (investment) account than this.
I have the Ultra 1. Having a lot of the functionality of your phone on your wrist is really convenient. I can read and send messages, carry out phone conversations, the various exercise states, look up the weather, set timers by voice, etc. My phone is barely out of my bag now. I don't have the inconvenience of it being in my pocket all day.
My watch doesn't have a cover. it went on our trip to Europe, been knocked into a number of things. Not even a scratch. I like the bigger screen real estate. Having bought one, and used it everyday for two years i think it is expensive but good value.
Got to admit part of it is i’m 64 and I've finally got my Dick Tracey watch.
What in your life is cooking for $1000? Unless you got one of those Gina's $2 an hour African workers.
This was a Watch version before Ultra - Relative kept running out of steam playing casual sports. His Apple Watch advised he had irregular heart rates. So he went to see doctor then specialist showing them the patterns saved from watch to iPhone. They did tests, turned out he had heart palpitation and needs heart surgery to fix.
I think it's price matching JB, where you can get a further $30 off using perks.

Very tempted by this because my Ultra 1 is going out if iOS updates but i think i’ll wait for the Ultra 4 release and black Friday sales.
I'm in the same boat. Wouldn't be surprised if Ultra 4 includes a price bump and doubt that Ultra 3 gets discounted much more than $999
Anyone had experience using this for sleep tracking or exercise/sports? Worried if its too bulky or heavy. I like the ultra as i dont want to charging the watch every night and not being able to sleep track
