    Best thing I installed. I also keep a spare house key in a spot in the garage, so if I lock myself out, can open the garage and obtain spare key. Safer than leaving spare key outside somewhere.

        Extremely. 2 pins into the back of your controller. Then running a small cable to line up some magnets. There good instructions and a video in the app on how to do so as well.

            @Agarwal: Doesn't really depend on the type of door, it will work the same regardless. You just need to make sure your roller is compatible using this tool or this list.

            @Agarwal: Yes you still have your existing remotes. It works by plugging into the 12v activator input on the garage door motor. Most of these have a 12v pin input, which when short circuited, performs the same action as when you press a button on the remote. This remote also comes with a hall effect (magnetic) sensor. You place a magnet on the roller door and position the sensor such that these are in close proximity when the door is closed, and the remote then senses that. It can notify you if the door stays open for extended periods etc.

        Yes very easy. It is very likely they have specific directions for your exact model of garage door opener in their app as part of set up. Took me all of 10 minutes and no tools beyond a damp cloth for wiping surfaces down and some tape.

      Works great as long as your controller has support via contacts to open (very common). You might need to insert the meross into a waterproof box though. Easy to buy at Bunnings.

      If you can activate it with a momentary switch I think you’ll be able to use this. Basically it has two wires that close-circuit momentarily when you activate it. It’s basically a remote controlled momentary switch. It also has a magnetic sensor to return whether the door is closed or opened.

      I have it installed on my DEA sliding driveway gate. But did not install the sensors as I'm too lazy. Can still use it without the sensors, it always shows as 'open'. The trigger to activate the motor works fine

          The existing remotes still work, the existing hard-wired button on my intercom (to open the gate) still work.

        (If I had to run ethernet to the garage to install an AP there, I might as well run ethernet to the unit itself.)

          Ahh got you. I don't know of any ethernet based ones. Here is a beefier version which has better wifi range. You could also use your ethernet connection to put in a wifi access point as well.

      You need a HomeKit hub (Apple TV/Homepod etc) to use it away from home via Apple Home - i.e. popping up in CarPlay when near home.

      It means that you can block this device from the internet. Homekit traffic will go via whatever Homekit Hub you have at home. This is a Homepod or Apple TV for example.

      So this:

      Meross Garage Plug —> Internet —> Meross API

      Becomes:

      Meross Garage Blug —> Internet (Blocked)

      Meross Garage Plug —> Homepod/Apple TV —> Apple Cloud —> iPhone

      And the meross unit doesn't tallk to the internet directly.

          sorry I'm terrible at explaining things so here's AI:
          Your garage opener already has a motor:
          The motor opens and closes the door.
          Normally you control it with a wall button or a remote.

          A smart garage device connects to that opener:
          It connects to your home's Wi-Fi.
          It's wired to the same terminals as the wall button (or sometimes uses another compatible method).

          When you tap "Open" in the app…
          The smart device briefly closes an electrical circuit, exactly like pressing the wall button for about one second.
          The garage opener thinks someone pressed the button and starts moving the door.

          A sensor tells the app whether the door is open or closed
          Most systems use a magnetic sensor attached to the door and frame.
          When the door moves away from the sensor, it knows the door is open.

      Installed it today. I’m 99% sure no. The HA integration worked through Meross web login to get the authentication token initially. I think HomeKit just makes it easier to tell Siri to open the garage remotely if you haven’t got HA set up to access outside the house. You could also add this one through homebridge in HA instead too I guess.

            @JSONBourne: INIU power banks are great. I can only guess that the pallet coming into Amazon was damaged and rejected. Or there was a fault/issue with the batch and it was recalled. It's a specific model in the batch and they all work fine.

      I can understand why. They absolutely do not play well with some AP's. I replaced my AP to fix this problem, and managed to buy another one that it has a problem with (now onto a third and its works flawlessly).

      I'd strongly suggest googling your AP + Meross Smart Garage Door Opener before you purchase, otherwise you're going to try to troubleshoot something that will never work (that is, it looks like it might work and that the problem is signal strength - dropout, so you spend nights up and down a bloody ladder resetting it and rooting around, but it'll never work properly and tease you that it might by sometimes connecting).

      Let my blood, sweat and tears be your gain - just google before you buy.

    this works pretty well as a phone app based device for opening and closing the door but good luck relying on it for timely notifications when the door is open or closed. my notifications take anywhere from 1 minutes to up to 20 minutes sometimes to arrive

      How do you have it connected? If you setup your own notifications via HomeKit or HomeAssistant they are essentially instant for me. But it also means running local only. The meross app hasn't been bad for me either.

        Not using homekit or ha, its directly to Meross cloud and meross app. Its clearly the cloud service which is slow, when I purchased this about a year ago, the notifications were almost instant. gradually they have slowed down, i suspect because Meross hasnt upped the cloud service capacity and its going through large numbers of notifications.

        as a workaround i also have the Tapo door sensor attached to the door and use Tapo to send me notifications which are instant.

    I have this, it's ok for Android but the new Gemini upgrade to Android Auto means your can't open it with Google assistant anymore as it requires a pin that Gemini doesn't support.

    I have it working via Samsung smart things but I would probably just get the $10 Tayu one from AliExpress for Android.

    The push notification of you leave the garage open for 15 minutes is nice though.

        If you download the Gemini app on your phone you can go into the settings and change the Assistant back from Google Gemini to Google Home (or whatever they call it). It'll then start accepting the PIN again.

        I've done it on two phones and it worked.

      I know this is such a bummer, before assistant would ask for a pin and now it outright refuses.
      I've played around with using home assistant to trigger it through there to get around the security, but its finicky and didn't work very well - but I also have put minimal effort into getting that going

    Just want to note that mine opened on its own once and I've had it disconnected ever since. Not sure if it was the devices fault or the app or what it was, but it meant that my dog got out which I can't risk happening again.

    I'm not saying that this is likely to happen, but just something to note.

        Unfortunately I didn't think to check the logs at the time. Would be strange if it was remote interference/hacking as it's never happened before or since, and I'd only used the controller for a small window of about a month.

      Mine was opening on its own in the past - ended up being one of the neighbours' remotes triggering it. Cleared all the codes on the garage door and re-learned mine, and no issues since.

        Yep I suspect it's something along these lines rather than Meross. There are so many hoops to go through for the app randomly send an API call to open the door. It just wouldn't happen. RF hacking or remote key overlap is far far more likely.

      I don't think so, unless you had a sufficiently sized battery and solar setup. This is a wifi based device so it would need a guaranteed 5W at all times.

      Check the gate terminal (where the power, ground, signals, etc) are wired to. If the terminal has free terminals, yes, you can do it. It is only tripping the power to the gate to open and close it, itself.

      Most garage roller doors have this (IE: spare terminals free on the wiring terminal) which allow the Meross to work and function properly.

          Depends on power at the gate. Solar 12v? Solar 24v?

          Meross relay output → Centsys TRG/I/O1 + COM
          Power Meross from a fused 12/24V-to-5V USB buck converter
          Put the Meross/converter in a weatherproof enclosure
          Check Wi-Fi signal at the gate
          Monitor battery voltage for a week, especially in poor sunlight due to wifi on the Meross unit.

    However is it possible to turn the garage door off, so it could not be open from the garage wall switch.
    ie If someone broke in through the house they could not steel the car?

      No, this won't be able to do that.

      I could imagine removing the normal garage door opener and only using the app, but every garage door I've ever seen has the red string to be able to open it manually anyway.
