Yeah, but that was the old setup without the AU suspension tuning. Developing and testing a local setup costs money — anything gets the “Australia-local” treatment, it’s rarely going to get cheaper.

i feel like the Chinese cars are 'slowly' getting less price competitive im not saying this is any a good deal if you dont mind the brand but it is hardly a table slapping bargain like in the earlier days
i always said they couldnt sell at a loss forever but i thought they would keep the ultra low pricing for at least a decade

i feel like the Korean cars mainly KIA had a lot of success with their 7-year warrenty which was market leading for a long time - i still member many brands only offering 3 and some 5 year warrenties when Kia came in they blew away a lot of brands as they were priced below competition but to maintain faith they had a 'quality' 7 year warrenty.
now 5 and 7 is pretty stand but at the time Kia has the inside track i even remember a being in the states and chating to my Uber driver and he said he brought the Kia we were in just because of the warrenty
I do feel like MG are 'trying' to replicate that a bit with the 10 year warrenty but i dont know if it has been 'as' successful due to the sheer flood of cheap cars into the market - i actually feel like the value end is saturated but the 'luxury' end could use a bit of a shake up

Learnt the key is to email Mitsi and consumer affairs cc'd in… Amazingly found availability…
In fairness, Mitsi know all their batteries are cooked. So if they allow everyone to get a warranty check…there will be no Mitsi Australia..

@hawkeye93: Used to be 7 but only 5 if not serviced at Mitsubishi. They used to have a well priced car, too bad they decided to "elevate" their pricing/image which unfortunately for them was just at the time the Chinese took over. Hardly see a new triton on the road now with that boxy front. Up until 2017ish Mitsi Tritons/Outlanders/Lancers etc. were everywhere.

I'm quite satisfied that KIA offered 7-year warranty. Just had my 2020 KIA Cerato head lamps, multimedia unit, back bonnet, clip visor replaced last month. All free, dropped off at the dealership and was given a Seltos GT 2024 to drive for a week

I dont disagree they are on the piss with some of the VW pricing but the brand in is part of a Multi tier system globally and in Australia looking at buyers from all ends of the value chain Skoda being their budget option, VW for slight more Premium buyers and Audi/Cupra being their Mid-tier-Luxury end, and Premium Luxury Porsche the Ultra high Luxury / Niche end in Lambos/Bentley
Not to mention their commerical Vans - ie Caddy
if you want a 'Euro' car they essentially are open to all level of buyers - this also gives them a 'network' of service departments, sales teams, HR, parts etc
unlike other companies they are less reliant on collaborating with competition (although im sure the Amarok is made in the Ford Factories in Asia) - i actually think VW do a 'decent' job of running multiple brands for different buyers.
I compare them to the 'shit show' that is Stellantis which i wouldnt touch a car they have in their arsenal as they are over priced garbage many competing for the same buyers in many cases and their 'value cars' where all shit ie Fiat and Citeron

I know I'm dreaming, but anyone know a phev with a towing capacity above 1500kg braked for under 50k? I am based out of a caravan and the dream is to be able to tow the van around every couple months but still have the phev for the majority of the time I'm not moving around

Actually, neighbour has this H6 Phev. Build quality is better than my Volkswagen Touareg I paid $110k for 2 years ago. Very solid, nothing creaks or squeaks in the interior, everything bolted down well and perfect seam lines. My VW is shocking on rough roads, everything rattles and squeaks in just 2 years and the fit and finish on the interior is not perfect. The GWM is good.

Anything that is not a Mercedes G class or a Toyota. Buy a car with an Accountant brain or buy a car with your heart. Some people choose the Accountant brain, some people choose the heart. That is why even a car brand like Alfa Romeo has a market when we all know how shockingly bad the reliability and build quality is.

@Dollar Dreamer: It's actually not nearly as bad as it used to be. Interesting that VW was your choice as their reliability is generally not good either, but also on the passion side, what is so attractive about a VW? Something with a GTI or R badge I'd understand but a Touareg?

@LanceVance: Rose tinted glasses on when I went for a test drive. Felt rock solid and an interior that felt generations ahead of any Lexus / BMW / Mercedes. But yea, VW are not what they used to be in the early 2000's. They fall apart after 2 - 3 years. It has been reliable though but it has only done 25,000km so I expect it to be reliable.

@Dollar Dreamer: Hopefully it proves reliable for you! My biggest tip having grown up with my dad running a chauffering business and maintaining cars going up to 400k km's is the following:
Max 10k oil change intervals, ignore manufacturer recommendations
Anything that says sealed for life like a transmission or differential is absolute garbage. Have them serviced every 50k km's. Dealership will likely not do it or way overcharge, find a good independent. Cooling systems should also be flushed at about the same interval.
Research preventative maintenance & weak points for your model and specific drivetrain and have those issues tackled in advance.

@Dollar Dreamer: I have a 190 TDI R-Line Touareg that is now 6 years old, with 40,000 kms under its belt. Fantastic car, except for an $800 repair to the self-opening tailgate switch 2 months after the warranty expired!

Regen braking level was hard to change settings mid drive .
Has a cum consumption gauge ?Ordered one (under fbt exemption). Got one, got the vin.. but didn't get off the boat before fbt cut off.
Stupid government not interested in honoring contracts made within cut off. Using delivery date.
Try selling an investment asset.. naturally tax is due on contract date, not the settlement date.
So cancelled and waiting for Gen 2. Keeping an eye on upcoming J8 SHS.

It's really good for the first few years, then it steadily declines after that. Usually trade in after 5-7 years when the ROI becomes nearly non-existent, but that also gets quite expensive after a few new models.

Before you buy, just make sure you are OK with the payload on the Chinese PHEVs. A lot are only around 400kg or even less (Omoda 9). Chery is the outlier with more than 600kg. No wonder they don't list it in their specs so you need to calculate it.

I’ve got this. Pre AT-1 which is really frustrating as they promised it to me as an upgrade and now are saying it’s not possible.
It’s mostly a good car, but has some real day to day annoyances. I’ve had the cruise control just stop working mid drive. I had a rat make its home in our air con filter like a week in. Some settings reset on every restart. The voice control is next to useless. To turn the lights on is touch screen only (no voice no physical switch) which would be fine if the auto lights worked consistently. CarPlay is a little laggy but useable. The rear passenger seat has started to squeak.
Also someone dinged our door when it was parked and took away paint from both passenger side doors, can’t blame GWM for that one though.
Would I recommend it? With the AT-1 maybe. It’s a bit of a pain to drive on Australian roads otherwise. Very fussy and doesn’t just hold the line, which is exacerbated by having to operate so much through the touch screen.

I’ve had the Haval Ultra Hybrid and it’s been a dream to drive. Prefer to still have buttons rather than everything on the screen. Not sure I’m entirely convince with the PHEV version yet.

Does yours have AT-1? I’m regularly driving along the Calder and I really notice where it needs improvement. It’s a pain to keep it going straight? And then the over enthusiastic lane keeping takes over (which turns itself back on every start). Or, it’ll freak out about nothing and start braking like there’s something in front of you when in cruise control.
