The OG switch version is on cart, so you can if you’re willing to cop the couple of drawbacks it has.

I don't like keycards but they're a damn sight better than no physical media. A step in the wrong direction that Sony and Xbox took years and years ago.

@Budju: I don't particularly agree.
If you own digitally and the store for whatever reason closes down(which has happened), at least you still have access to your copy.
If the store goes down in the future then there's a chance your keycard would be rendered useless.- 0
@maverickjohn: Nintendo has separate download server for games and updates versus the eShop storefronts.
So far, 7+ years since the Wii stores (bit more recent for 3DS and Wii U) has been closed, Nintendo still allows downloads of updates and re-download of previously purchased games.
If anything, as long as you can still find a valid GKC, you can likely still buy and install a GKC game long after the digital storefront has delisted games or closed entirely.

I know the digital purchases can be redownloaded hence my whole point. But if a gkc is designed to access a store (as in not something in your library then it may not work.. I emphasise the word may as I'm not sure. Where history has proven digital purchases have been accessible.- 0
@maverickjohn: The way a Wii, Wii U or 3DS download updates or re-download games from Nintendo's download servers is by the device checking in using the game's license key (attached to either the game disc/cart or your account).
A Game Key Card is literally just a license key in cart form, basically the same as what you'd find on a normal game cart (minus the local copy of the game data).
As long as the same servers that host the game updates and digital games is still up, there's literally no reason why it'd be any different for GKC versions of the games.

Digital or CIAB is tied to an account forever.
Play for a couple hours and find that the game is just not for you? Too bad, no refund.
You can't even give it away if you wanted to.
But GKC?
- Depending on the retailer's refund policy, you can return it days or weeks afterwards for a full refund, and get something else instead.
- Lend / trade / give it to family and friends.
- Or even months or years later, sell it or trade it towards another game.

Because retailers still need to clear physical stock. Once the publisher has paid for manufacturing, Nintendo's cartridge/licensing fees, and distribution, those costs are sunk. Stores also don't want inventory sitting on shelves or in distribution centres, so there's more pressure to discount a physical key card than a digital copy, which has no holding costs other than the licensing fee charged when the sale occurs.

If you're into tactics RPG, then yes it is. It really just depends on the type of game you play. The story is good too.

Shame that it going to digital or gamecard.. I wanna keep my gamrs as long as possible.. digital and gamecard download won't be there after 15yrs? And you gamecard is useless then
