  • Nice deal!

  • Listening to these over tubes should be illegal.
Don't do it, you'll ruin your other headphones.

    • gotta ask, what's a tube?

      • Haha, was gonna ask the same

      • They're referring to driving them with a tube amp and suggesting that the combo is so good, you'll never use a different setup ever again.

    • Ah another person who has experienced "ture level"
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MwCJpEuC44

    • Hey mate, what tube amp are you driving?
My tube amp isn't giving me this type of experience.

  • Damn, i couldn't resist..

  • Any recommendations on amps for these? Also any alternative recommendations to these headphones?

    • 600 and 650 are still better all-round headphones. If you want something with more resolution without sacrificing the timbre and tonality of those two so much, you should be looking at the Hifiman Ananda Unveiled and Arya Stealth, which should sit barely above this as we go deeper into the year.

      • Throw in the HEDDphone D1 to that list as well!

  • Anyone tried the HD 620S' and have an opinion on them? I need some closed backs to replace my garbage Beyerdynamic DT700 pro x's after they disintegrated. I'm completely done with them after dealing with Beyerdynamic's even more garbage support. $339 isn't an ATL for them but it's the lowest they've been in a while by the looks of it. I like my HD 6XX's but I've never tried a closed back pair of sennheiser's before

    • I'd recommend k371 for the price and sound quality… But those too disintegrate after a while.

Surprised your dt770s are wearing down, I've got a T1 that's nearly 10 years old and it's still going. Padding is worn down but it's not flaking or anything.

      • 700's, not 770's. They're trash. I regret buying them and I regret ever recommending them. They sound great, but in less than a year the headband padding went, the cups cracked when I took the pads off to give them a clean, and not too long after that the entire headband pretty much crumbled into dust. The plastic they use for them is so brittle. I used to have a pair of 770's and they were built like a tank. The 700 pro x's were meant to be an upgrade.

Worst of all when I emailed their support about it, apart from it obviously being written by AI they told they broke because I didn't wipe the sweat off them often enough and told me to buy an entire new housing for $160.

Been using Beyerdynamic headphones for years and now I've sworn I'm never going to buy another set from them again after the steaming pile of s**t that is the 700 pro x's.

Edit: They also clearly know how bad the housing is because soon after they released the 770 pro x, which has the driver of the 700 in the 770's housing

    • The 620S needs EQ out of the box to get anything worthwhile when it comes to neutral sound (and best representation of music), you might be better served with the new Sennheiser HD 480 Pro, but it's not cheap. If the 620S is $250 and under and you're confident in dialing in an EQ when you need the neutrality, that's ok too.

Outside of that while the K371 is a good suggestion below, it's not been at a fair price for a long time, so you'd have a much better time with a FiiO FT1 if you're just looking for a backup closed back (especially from AliE with all the discounts, can get right down to $170 net).

    • I bought the 620S in November and I really like them. I have been using them with a FiiO BTR7 DAC/AMP (although they are easy to drive because of 110dB/V) and EQ'd through the Poweramp app for Hi-Res music. They have angled high-impedance drivers to give a wider soundstage and low distortion. They're comfy too.

I just use the Oratory1990 EQ with another 30% bass.

They're quite well made with really nice textured plastics but you still only get a string bag for storage.

These have a really 'bright' sound but I am not left wanting for any particular qualities musically and the sound is not fatiguing at all. The HD650 is said to sound warm, so it seems like they are somewhat opposite ends of the spectrum. I have no idea about Beyer products but according to this comparison, it compared more favourably than the DT 700 Pro X. The graphs are quite similar but don't tell the whole story.

I did just get the HD600 which are comfier and lighter. Out of the box I'd say the 600s sound worse but this is purely because I need to buy a balanced cable to drive them properly with the BTR7, but the 620S seem designed to compliment something like a HD600 well!

So yes, I am really satisfied with the HD620S. No complaints for the price, really.

  • Anyone have a DAC recommendation to pair with these. Looking more a the budget end of things….

  • Has anyone A-B'ed these against a HD490 Pro?
I'm familiar with the 600 series sound, but am so tempted to go for the 490 and would like to know how it compares to the 600s.

    • HD490 is a studio monitoring, so it's flat and not really musically enjoyable for some.
the 660 is more for "colorful" and each to their own, I enjoy the 650, 660s2 more than reference/studio grade.

    • The 490 is a lot more money for little gain compared to the 600 and 650. 660 S2 is its own coloured variation that really doesn't beat those at all.

The real next steps up at the moment are the Hifiman Ananda Unveiled, Arya Stealth, and HE600. Arya Unveiled and HE600 will be phenomenal value when they eventually drop below $800.

      • Throw in the HEDDphone D1 to that list as well!

  • $200+ vs HD600 for slightly different tuning…

  • I have the 660s, is the v2 much different and worth the upgrade?

    • IMHO no. Actually, the more I'm learning about the 6XXs the more I'm agreeing with zachhambo
