      “OLED panels are cut at 83 inches rather than 86 inches because of how TV manufacturing plants (specifically LG Display, the primary maker of OLED panels) divide their massive sheets of glass. 83-inch panels come from a different glass-cutting layout designed to optimize yields, while 86-inch sizes are typically reserved for LED/LCD screens”

    Lg web os and Samsung tizen app stores have supposedly 1/3 of their apps containing proxies that are used to route traffic for botnets, if I understood Anthony Agius’ sizzle recent newsletter.

      That’s why I put these things on my guest network with no internal access to anything on my main network. Closest thing to a VLAN I have but it’s effective enough.

        If it's a botnet issue, you haven't solved the problem (but you have protected your own network). The malicious apps could still take part in a botnet attack because they have access to the internet

      yeah i bought the LG C6 recently from a post on here - amazing display, but webOS is the worst thing ever. The default media player app is awful, and I can't even get another player like VLC, Nova, Kodi, etc.
      Ended up buying a nvidia shield pro just to be able to watch movies from my hard drive properly, and change subtitles and audio tracks.

        You can actually run Kodi on LG webos using dev mode. It's pretty easy to setup but you do need a computer. I'm also releasing an open source Jellyfin client soon that's based on mpv and Qt which is very fast and supports converting the key parts of HDR10+ metadata to Dolby Vision.

        My view is that the problem is slow and ad-filled software. LG 202x TVs may not have fast processors but you can still write programs that are pretty much as responsive as possible for 60Hz if you write native code instead of web apps.

    I would wait, some models were definitely cheaper before ie. S85H 83" was recently 3134 (even cheaper with trade-in + 5%)

    Would recommend people reconsider their Samsung TV purchases.

    Replaced my Samsung S90F with a Sony and super happy with it. I had multiple issues with Samsungs including intermittent HDR issues which requires constant restarting, previously also had the S90D which would randomly drop Hdmi signals. Terrible experience with Samsung customer service too, they simply don't believe you when you have issues that are intermittent and hard to reproduce on demand.

    IMO, better off with a better quality Sony for a bit more, which comes with a vastly superior OS, powerful processor (even better than the latest Google streamer) which means you don't need a media box etc with another remote, better support, less headaches.

    Just my 2c, YMMV.

      I had a Samsung 7 years old out of warranty, stopped turning on and they repaired it for free

        I had had FANTASTIC experience with Samsung TV repairs in this same way. A main board and a panel have failed on me on separate TVs and they have both been replaced out of warranty.

        I bought an 83inch end of 2019, they repaired it for free in 2024 when it died, its recently died again and they said they cant help me.

        How long ago was this, I had a good experience with them a few years ago with a washing machine but this TV issue was just a few months ago and has completely put me off the brand.

          Around 2024, I guess its different between trying to get an intermittent issue fixed vs won't turn on at all, and yeah Sony would have the better OS pretty sure Samsung filled with Ads

            @tunzafun001: Oh sorry, didn't realise pvr is for recording live TV. My older Sony has it but don't think the newer ones do. Probably better off googling it.

            But I feel like it's a niche market given all FTA channels have their own apps with programs recorded already so wouldn't be surprised if it's no longer a thing.

              @Tech45: It's hard with Sony, as google will say they have it…but turns out only the Euro models have it.

              As for streaming FTA. Still quite a bit of content they are only licensed to broadcast live, but not put up for streaming.

              Literally every other manufacturer has it…and Euro have it…just put it in sony Aus!

        Yea sort of sucks but read this on an article:

        "Despite the joint venture between Sony and TCL, Sony retains a 49% stake and maintains customer support operations. All warranty claims, troubleshooting, and repairs will still be managed directly by Sony’s dedicated customer service team and authorized technicians."

        So I assume TCL will have to uphold the same quality.

      What hdr issues are you having? I have a 65" s90f and not experienced problems with hdr from a ccwgt 4k or the internal Plex app. I don't use Netflix or other streaming though.

      Only problem I am having is occasional stutter playing Plex from the ccwgt with judder reduction enabled. I think it's the ccwgt, as I changed the launcher to plezy which seriously improved performance but still get a stutter every 30 to 60 mins. Internal Plex app has been flawless, but no dts support means audio has to be transcoded. I have Plex server running on a g8 microserver with a celeron, so I prefer direct streaming where possible.

        The colour would go all weird, blacks would become like a weird grey and it became unwatchable. I could only fix it by forcing the TV to use SDR.

          That does sound like a factory defect. At least with Sony you get inbuilt google tv and the motion processing is rock solid, but that Sony tax is rough.

          Viewing HDR via Plex, plezy or YouTube has produced correct blacks and greys to my eyes.

            @flagger: Yea they replaced the panel at one point and I said it seems to be a processing issue rather than a panel issue, which turned out to be true because it started happening the next day, and they gave basically stopped believing me after that. Ended up having to sell it for parts for a couple hundred dollars after paying $3k.

    Every Samsung product I’ve owned has failed. High-end fridge. 4 soundbars (purchased at the same time) 85” 8K Neo-QLED and more.

    Worst customer support. Dragged me through hell and back. Will never buy Samsung again. Just my experience.

      I haven't had anything fail and we have a house loaded with Samsung stuff. Did get free replacement cables and remotes for my TV's after mishaps but that was a very easy process each time.
      Fridge has been great for 7-8 years touch wood.

    I picked up the 55" S85F around this time for (I think) $1117 after all discounts from Samsung. I have it as a bedroom TV and love it. I'm convinced it's better than my 77" A80L, even though all specs and reviews say otherwise.
