      i got the Elac DBR62 when in Europe, think final price was 660 minus tax as they had a discount, but did not have any peace of mind as check-in luggage.

      Have you considered building the Mechano23 speakers? They're comparable but put you out around $600-$700 after all is done.

        87db means this will run on anything

        cheapest but 'well known' would be a ZA3 or a Aiyima A07 if you small class d

      Don't fall into the trap of obsessing over amps and DACs. Any decent DAC has precision that exceeds your ears. Any non-broken, reasonably specified amp will allow you to get at least 99 percent of the real-world performance out of these speakers. Chasing the last 1% is economically unproductive. If you are chasing performance and have cash to burn, spend it on acoustic panels. Or spend it on a large subwoofer to extend bass below 50 Hz. Or spend it on a UMIK-1 and a DSP to tune the in-room response.

      TLDR: Find something cheap or second-hand. I literally picked up a perfectly working Cambridge Audio stereo amplifier in a neighbour's hard rubbish collection. Or you can get a decent Class D micro-amplifier for a couple hundred bucks.

      TLDR TLDR: It's all good, don't sweat it.

        I notice that WiiM Amp can be had for $400 which is a decent deal for a high quality Class D amp with a lot of features. It's got a feature-rich EQ capable of making fine adjustments (see Erin's Audio Corner review) or for doing some moderately effective in-room calibration. It also supports a proper subwoofer out with crossover. (You can connect a subwoofer with any amp, but a crossover in the amp is the only way for a subwoofer to lower the burden on the speakers.)

        In terms of connectivity, it's a veritable swiss army knife. It can connect to a TV in multiple ways. It can act like a bluetooth speaker. It can be an AirPlay speaker. It has line input. It has digital input. It switches between sources automatically. Perfect for living room TV speakers that will do double duty as room-filling music.

      Frequency response of 42 to 38 kHz

      You’d want a sub if you are gaming or watching movies. You’d appreciate it with music, but up to you.

      If you did get a sub though you’d need to get an amp that supports it.

          Most subs are active so don't need an external amplifier. Honestly your best bet is to look around on marketplace and find something for ~$100 second hand

      For TV: no.

      For action movies: yes.

      For desktop use: no.

      For cranking it in a large living room: yes.

      If the sub was good, yes that would be an improvement provided your amp has a sub out. But a cheap sub is more likely to detract from the overall sound. These have 6.5" woofers, which will deliver on their own.

      So I tried to do some research on this, but there seems to be no actual comparison between this speaker and the wharfedale diamond 12.1, only in comparison with the older 2.0 model. So I'm not sure if your analysis applies to this product?

    Heard them in the store, and they are exactly the same as db53, just bit bigger. I am assuming they can get louder though.

    Nice deal! I visited my local Addicted to Audio shop the other month, lots of cool stuff on display. Ended up with Q Acoustics 3010c's myself, also on special currently for $299. I'm happy with them, but was restricted to very particular speaker sizes - ELAC would have been a strong contender otherwise!

      I bought the 3020C's with the matching centre to put into my home theatre setup, and have 3020i's for surrounds and will eventually add rear surrounds as well. I really like the Q Acoustics 3000 series, for price, hard to go past and the C range is a solid step up from the I series. Great for music and movies if paired with a good sub.

    I’ve got a 3.1 paradigm setup at the moment (paradigm floor standers + centre + sub)

    Is it ok to get these as my surround sounds or best to stick with paradigm (se atom) bookshelves

      Definitely get these. The Paradigm Monitor SE Atom are strictly inferior to the ELAC, and it's unlikely that the specific characteristics of their inferiority are going to match well to your paradigm fronts, which are presumably higher-end models that don't have matching negative characteristics.

      These ELACs are quite neutral and should pair well with most (objectively) high quality speakers.

      On the other hand, if you're planning to use a decent room correction system system (e.g. Dirac, Audyssey) then the flaws of the SE Atom become less meaningful, as they're flaws which EQ can fix easily. And while the ELAC would still be unquestionably superior (and cheaper), the placebo effect of having the same logo on all your speakers is a perfectly valid experiential consideration.

      I would personally prefer the kef for detail and sound stage, especially if you're going to be close to the speakers

      but the sale makes them over double the price, hard to justify unless you can wait for a kef sale

        lol yeah. We're probably in the same boat. I have two pairs of ELACs and they are pretty god tier. Extremely happy with the Wharfedale Evo 4.2s.

        I like the look of these bad boys though haha. Must resist.

    I have a topping D10 balanced, schitt Jotunheim, and KRK ROKIT powered 5 (don't asked why I have powered speakers with a DAC and amp).

    If I were to bite the bullet on a good passive of passive speakers (mainly for music) how high up on the ranks is this deal (say from 1-10)?

    If I didn’t already own a pair of DB6.2, would definitely grab these personally. Apparently the Debut 3.0 is easier to power too… but has a back port instead of front so may be an issue depending on where you want to place these.

    The DF6.3 is also on sale @ $999 (Black only). A bargain considering I handed over $1.4k for these about a year ago at the same store.

    With any speakers though, try to listen to them in person (which Addicted to Audio are amazingly understanding and helpful here). What Joe Bloggs loves from random audio hype channel, you might think sound “mid”.

    I have some of the DCB41's i got for my bedroom TV (Needed HDMI-ARC) and was quite impressed with them, was thinking of these or the smaller ones to replace my desk speakers.

    They look like solid speakers. I was looking at them because I couldn't find the B6.2's after they went EOL, only reason I didn't get them was they shifted to a rear bass port which didn't suit the spot they'd be in.

    I am considering these as lounge speakers for music and TV. My only concern is their size. Can anyone recommend a smaller pair at a similar price and quality level? I feel smaller = poor base, though no expert! If anyone can list a couple option, that would be really helpful :)
