Krio Krush The Original Flavon Chicken Salt - this is the best chicken salt I have had. | This is the one a lot of chip shops use

Reddit: Why not ask the shop what they use? Most I know of use Krio Krush. You used to be able to get "small" 800g cans of it on Amazon, not sure if you still can. The shops buy it generally in 20kg pails..

Grabbed one to try over my usual Mitani.

  • Ordered some of this after the reddit thread, rate it well below the centuries ahead chicken salt.

    • I'm confused reading your comment - well below the centuries ahead?! huh?

      • I can't tell if your comment is a joke, but 'centuries ahead' is the brand…

        • No msg, can it really be that good? Has anybody tried this and the nice n tasty brand from coles/costco?

          • @Crow25: Nice n tasty is the best of the locally available options in my opinion.

          • @Crow25: It has msg as the 4th largest component -

            https://i.imgur.com/qTj8KWJ.jpeg

            just listed as 621.

In comparison I think the krio is much more floury and sugary tasting, to the point where salt seems like an afterthought. The CA one is much much saltier and msg tasting and much better at making potato taste like potato.

            • @stimutacs: That's why the shit tastes good.

Nothing wrong with msg besides high on sodium.

Use sparingly and you'll be right (and it's Salt anyway lol)

            • @stimutacs: Krio is salt, sugar, msg. You've got starch before msg with the CA one. My local kebab shop uses Krio (I asked :) ) and it's always been great. Not sure if I've had CA anywhere, though.

              • @the discombobulated panda: The salt isn't the worst part of all the shit people are putting it on, to be honest.

Already a lot of fat, salt, oil..

          • @Crow25: Trying to find Kristo I've gone on a bit of a search-a-roo and now I'm gonna try and check out this brand. Anybody else already been here before me ? This stuff any good? https://www.mehdis.com.au/products/bundle-order-chicken-salt…

            • @Crow25: What a wank. How much do you want to spend on shit junk.

My mate is a chef and chippy from Coles is as good as your ever need, and not available in the USA

              • @G-Shock: haha - yeah, I have a feeling that one is a scam… I'm already downing light n tasty chicken salt like it's out of fashion and can't believe i've lived so long without having a home supply of this delicious stuff. What happens if there is something out there that is even better that I can get hold of - like the tomato flavouring from the atomic tomato soundboy chips?

                • @Crow25: Atomic Tom is the best flavour haha.

Bit of a salty tongue ey? The more you have the more you crave. Better than being addicted to crack I guess.

      • I was also confused lol have a +

    • omg i saw this lol

    • I've been a fan of the Krio but I'll have to give this CA one a try. Cheers for the tip.

  • Mitani is the original, but as with many things in life it was ruined by a big corp takeover. It must have MSG to be true chicken salt (please spare me the inane thoughts on this). Krio Krush uses flavour enhancer 621 which is MSG.

If you're interested, there's actually a doco all about the true original creator Peter Brinkworth

    • 2026 and we still have problem with MSG? Lol

      • These disinformation movements are getting worse not better with the increase in adoption of social media, where have you been.

Majority of QLD councils took fluoride out of the water and parents aren't getting basic vaccines for their school kids, fire ant treatment workers were attacked because there is movement that they are a conspiracy to spray harmful chemicals.

      • My parents do and I cannot convince them otherwise

        • Don't worry same with my parents, but when we visited Tokyo and Shanghai, they forgot they "always have headache after consuming meal with MSG" lol

          • @Fredfloresjr: I'm glad they write flavour 621 instead of msg. My parents are blissfully unaware. Literally bought this for them like a month ago. They put this in everywhere now and happy to consume it

      • i mean people have problems with sugar substitutes now because they read an article that told them some mice got cancer when they had too much

  • Thanks OP, literally ordered it yesterday during prime sales. Even more cheaper now, luckily was able to cancel and reorder.

    • Me too! I was using 'Amazon Day Delivery' and it set to Thursday, so I had plenty of time to cancel.

    • Bought during the prime day sale and unfortunately it's arriving today so I can't cancel. Bugger

      • Same, jumped on live chat, had a whinge and they gave me $5 credit so works out cheaper :)

    • Lol @ it being cheaper outside of the Amazon Prime day sales

  • 'Nice n Tasty' chicken salt from Costco is the closest approximation I've found to the real thing. Yes, it has MSG

Apparently you can get it from Coles as well but Costco has a 700g container

    • Yeah I went on a mission to check what was the best I could buy easily from the super markets and this was the first one I tried after going out and grabbing 3 or 4 different ones and was instantly blown away, just finished it and am trying the others to massive disappointment thus far.

  • Yeh this is the good sh*t. Everything else recommended has been tried before but does not compare to this crack. True test is feedback from local footy club punters on hot chips. This wins.

  • Chargrill Charlies sell theirs and its the greatest

  • Can't purchase after adding into cart. Looks like OOS

  • OOS

  • $11.35 each (5% off) if you buy 5

  • What type of salt shaker is everyone using? The little metal one I use must let in moisture because it gets very 'clunky'

    • Put a little bit of rice in with the salt. Absorbs the moisture.

    • I bought this one:

      https://amzn.asia/d/0b8X6ULf

I think it works quite well. I haven't noticed any moisture or clumpiness. Using it for this exact same chicken salt. But only been using for a few weeks.

    • The trick is to only put a couple months worth in the shaker at a time.

  • back in stock

  • Back in stock

Just ordered with a 31 July delivery

  • Hot Tip, a lot of eateries (e.g. kebab shops) add "Chicken Booster" to whatever chicken salt they have which is also the equivalent of buying Chicken Salt from somewhere like Chargrilled Charlies or a Chicken Butcher Shop in your shopping centre.

    e.g. https://edlyn.com.au/edlyn/product/chicken-booster-gluten-fr…

Additionally, if your chosen chicken salt or home made blend doesn't contain MSG/Monosodium Glutamate/Flavour Enhancer 621/Make Sh%T Good, then you're not going to get the flavour you are looking for.

  • thanks got some OP :)

  • Much better than that horrible Mitani stuff in supermarkets.

  • Trust me bros… Buy a can of wonton soup mix powder (in yellow mini pringles can) from asian grocer… Put it on chips/wedges.

  • Ingredients:
Salt, suagr, flavour enhancer (621), dextrose, rice cereal, vegetable powders, spices, vegetable oil, anti-caking agent (551)

    Yum.

  • Chippy is the best, FYI
    (coles)

    • Best out of the usual supermarket brands, don't have a cry

      • Saxa > Chippy

      • Alas whilst that may be true no chicken salt in Colesworth is worth buying.

  • This is the stuff. It's also the stuff my local kebab shop uses. Very happy with it. :)
