[PS4, PS5] The Forgotten City $9.98 (75% off) @ PlayStation Store, [PC, Steam] $5.24 @ Indie Gala

650

A first person mystery adventure whereby the (modern time) player is trapped in a time loop in an (ancient time) underground Roman city where everyone dies if any inhabitant of the city commits a sin. It's murder mystery Groundhog Day with togas.

A little curiousity of Australian game dev, The Forgotten City was originally a Skyrim mod. Here's a YouTube doco "How a Lawyer Sacrificed his Career to Redevelop his Skyrim Mod" that has more on the interesting background to this gem.

EDIT: Also available at 75% off on Steam at $9.12

  • Great game.

Out and about, hands cold, no type big ramble, game good. Worth a play. Why use more words when less words speak good too?

    • We have Ashton Kutcher on ozbargain 😁

  • Great game - wish we knew what the dev was working on next

    • I checked out their YouTube channel today as a result of this and didn't see anything new (:/) but here's hoping I guess! They certainly said they had plans for more things!

  • Reminded me a little of Outer Wilds. In that you could finish the game very quickly, but it takes a decent run to know how to progress.

Worth going in blind. Like Outer Wilds, I would love to play it for the first time again.

    • The puzzles and especially the ending of this didn't hit for me as much as Outer Wilds did, but I really enjoyed my time with it. Not disagreeing with your assessment of it being similar and reminiscent of each other, just setting the expectations in case someone really enjoyed OW and then gives this a go.

I think my favourite bit was learning about ancient history a little, but in a mostly fun context. Well executed but the concept felt thinner than OW (maybe the dev team sizes were different, but that feels like a fair comment because both started out as much more basic things and evolved over years, I think OW just evolved better!)

  • Absolutely fantastic game. Picked it up a while ago.

  • Wonderful, memorable game you will think about for ages.

  • PS store still offering it at higher margin.. long live pcmr 🤷‍♂️ ( am mostly a console gamer + pc for rts )

(Please don’t bring in support indie at higher price argument here as that’s not the point of the statement above)

  • Not a long game (I managed to beat it in one night, but it was a long night), but I really enjoyed it.

  • i forgot what city it was honestly

  • Bought it because of the backstory. If it really is your true passion your will will will it to be.

  • For those with PS Plus, this game is the catalogue.

But thanks for the recommendation, I will try it out.

  • Strongly recommend- simple gameplay but I was hooked with the story

  • Really well executed little game.
