      Buy a Retoroid Pocket 6 or AYN Thor. They have fans in them for cooling. This tablet will cook andnl thermal throttle.

      Ive had my RP6 for about a month. Best decision I ever made. Running my Switch "backups" like Breath of the Wild make the fan run noticeable but not loud.

      On a tablet temper your expectations for more recent titles on any platform.

      The 12GB RP6 would be my suggestion.

        Cheers. Part of the appeal for a tablet is using it as such (kindle, videos and browsing). Appreciate the need for a fan for gaming.

      Warranty, retail OS. Price. You wont get the Y700 cheaper delivered. For a couple bucks, not worth the headache.
      Only issue is no accessories sold locally.
      I grabbed this the last sale from JB and grabbed the Lenovo G9 controller from Ali. Controller works with pretty much everything. All emulators work flawlessly.

      Cooling! If you are emulating anything mildy intense then you need something with a fan.

      This tablet will thermal throttle and cook imo.

      Go RP6 (8 or 12GB).

          Sure is. We always hope we don't need to use our warranties, but when you do, a local warranty will save you a lot of time and headaches. I've had a phone purchased from AliExpress fail on me a few years back, and after a few months of back and forth trying to claim warranty, nothing. And I've had a faulty alienware laptop I bought from jbhifi replaced to a newer model in a few days since they no longer have my model in stock. So to me, the extra we pay is worth the peace of mind.

    I bought the 2025 Y700 Gen 3 (16GB/512GB) CN model from AliExpress for around A$420. Flashed it to the official ROW firmware with LTBox in about 10–15 minutes, updated it to the latest official ROW build, and OTA updates are working normally. Couldn't be happier with it.

            Usual warning: flashing firmware always has some risk, so double-check the model and do it at your own risk. This will also wipe the tablet.

            First, enable Developer Options on the tablet. Go to Settings > About tablet and tap the build number around seven times. Then go into Developer options and enable USB debugging.

            I installed ADB and Fastboot on Windows through PowerShell with:

            winget install Google.PlatformTools

            After connecting the tablet to the PC, run:

            adb devices

            It will probably say “unauthorized” the first time. Accept the USB debugging popup on the tablet, then run adb devices again. It should now say “device”.

            Before flashing, I checked the model and firmware with:

            adb shell getprop ro.product.model
            adb shell getprop ro.build.version.release
            adb shell getprop ro.build.display.id

            Mine showed TB321FU and was running the CN build ZUXOS 1.1.10.138 on Android 15.

            The first ROW firmware I downloaded was:

            TB321FU_ROW_OPEN_USER_Q00002.0_W_ZUI_17.5.10.031_ST_251125.zip

            Extract the ZIP, then open LTBox as Administrator. LTBox detected the tablet automatically.

            In the flash wizard I chose:

            Install other region firmware
            Wipe Data
            Country code AU

            I then pointed LTBox at the “image” folder inside the extracted ROW firmware.

            The tablet screen goes completely black once it enters EDL mode. That is normal, so don’t unplug it or press anything. Mine took roughly 10–15 minutes and then rebooted into the ROW firmware.

            After setting it up, the tablet offered an OTA update, but on mine it downloaded and then kept offering the same update again without installing.

            To get around that, I installed Lenovo Software Fix and used it to download the latest full official ROW firmware. I did not use Software Fix itself to flash the tablet because it displayed a warning about devices originally sold in mainland China.

            Software Fix downloaded:

            TB321FU_ROW_OPEN_USER_Q00002.0_W_ZUI_17.5.10.272_ST_260625

            The downloaded and extracted files were stored under:

            C:\ProgramData\RSA\Download\RomFiles

            I then opened LTBox again and flashed 17.5.10.272 the same way:

            Install other region firmware
            Wipe Data
            Country code AU

            After setting it up again, the tablet showed:

            TB321FU_ROW_OPEN_USER_Q00002.0_W_ZUI_17.5.10.272_ST_260625

            System Update now says the tablet is up to date. Google Play is certified and everything I’ve tested is working normally.

            I paid about $420 AUD delivered for the 16GB/512GB CN model, so it worked out quite a bit cheaper than the local 12GB/256GB version.

            Hopefully that helps. It was actually pretty straightforward once I worked out which flash option to use and where Lenovo Software Fix stored the latest firmware.

              How did you run LTbox? In the git instructions it lists "Double-click ltbox.exe" as well but I checked the top 3 release tags and there's no executable in any of the releases?

                @turkz1: I used the prebuilt Windows release from here: https://github.com/miner7222/LTBox/releases
                Download the ZIP, extract it, then run ltbox.exe as Administrator. It detected my TB321FU automatically. The main LTBox GitHub no longer seems to include the Windows executable, which is why the instructions don't match the latest releases anymore.

                  @j-scrizz: Thanks for that. Worked it out that the fork didn’t have releases but the main repo did. Interestingly my sealed tablet from Lenovo Smart Store shipped with TB321FU_ROW_OPEN_USER_Q00002.0_W_ZUI_17.5.10.031_ST so I skipped down to your instructions to download and install TB321FU_ROW_OPEN_USER_Q00002.0_W_ZUI_17.5.10.272_ST_260625 and that worked a treat. Any idea if OTA updates will continue to work? Aliexpress seller wrote me a note saying OTA would not work. They also said they would unbox but box arrived fully sealed with lenovo tamper stickers. Very odd.

                    @turkz1: Yep, OTA updates should continue to work. Mine originally arrived with a vendor-installed "global" ROM too (seller claimed OTA wouldn't work), but I flashed the official Lenovo ROW firmware using Software Fix and LTBox. I'm now on 17.5.10.272 and OTA is still working fine.

                    I suspect the seller just sends that message to everyone because their modified global ROM doesn't receive official OTAs. Once you're on the genuine Lenovo ROW firmware, it behaves like a normal ROW device.

        Yep. I'm now on ZUI 17.5.10.272 (ROW) (TB321FU_ROW_OPEN_USER_Q00002.0_W_ZUI_17.5.10.272_ST_260625). Initially I was on 17.5.10.031 after flashing ROW, then I updated to 17.5.10.272 using the full official Lenovo firmware. OTA now reports up to date.

            @DeToxin: Yeah, that was my concern too. Mine arrived on ZUXOS 1.1.10.138 / Android 15, and LTBox handled the CN → ROW conversion without any issue. It detected the original China hardware region, enabled the region edit/rollback bypass, and flashed the official ROW package successfully. I then used Lenovo Software Fix only to download the latest official ROW firmware and flashed that with LTBox as well. So at least on my TB321FU, the newer region protection didn’t stop the conversion. Obviously there’s still some risk with any cross-region flash, but it was much easier than I expected.

    I got a Samsung TabA 8" 10 years ago, was handy to use for the most part…. hadn't really needed it in recent years. Actually tried to revive it this past week and it's painfully slow in all aspects (charging, starting up etc). Weighing up whether I should get another tablet for portable browsing and the like (I mean I'm fine with also using an older mobile phone for the same purpose, just with a smaller screen obviously).

    I usually have a money is no object approach, but I do have to be sensible sometimes…. and maybe a new tablet is something I'll dream about rather than execute the idea.

      This device is very powerful and made for playing mobile games at high quality. That is why the price is so high.
      At the 8-9 inch tablet size, the offerings are either very cheap low quality stuff (such as Samsung's Galaxy Tab A7 https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-tab-a7-lit…) or something like this post.

      If I was spending $500 on a tablet, I'd go for something larger but not as powerful.

        The 8 inch was perfect for me in 2016, don't get me wrong a larger screen is nice… but I'm thinking something smaller in hand for portability sake. I used to take it with me to work and use it on my lunch breaks. Just a weird way of thinking, 10" and above makes me feel like I may as well use a laptop lol.Whereas I've had "hand me down" phones for mp3/music listening and video watching on public transport…… for videos they're too small to really enjoy (yet small and compact would help to not be an easier target in terms of getting mugged for your technology).

        I'll have a browse around at JB and other places for size/feel I guess + to test what the screens are like. I'm a bit wary about Lenovo based on my experience with the Legion Go S (nice but the screen kills my eyes in certain circumstances).

          I agree, I've been using a 10" tablet for a few years mainly for reading, watching videos and what not particularly when travelling but it seems like 8" might be a bit more convenient. This is over-speced (or at least over-priced) for my use case but it seems like there's not many options in the sub-10" size.

          I'm pretty sure I had a TabA and it was just horribly slow even for my basic use.

            @CaptainJack: I didn't mind the Samsung in 2016 through to 2020 before I stopped using it as regularly as I did. But when I returned to it a handful of times over the years… yeah it is pretty clunky and slow for today's use cases. I didn't realise it at the time (wasn't a huge app installer :-/) but it was also clunky for various app usage + limited in not being able to install them on the microsd card itself (but the microsd was handy to be able to have music/movies on etc).

            If I proceed with a purchase (after in store research) it'll be a luxury more than a need. So I'll weigh up a purchase, perhaps I'll grab one at Christmas time if I chicken out now.

            @CaptainJack: That's the problem with tablets this size. The options are either underpowered devcies with a low res screen, or something for gaming like this. There isn't really anything in between.

          If you'd like to use a telescopic controller, then this would be ideal. As most of those controllers won't fit the s10. Think the snapdragon 8 gen 3 also performs better for games. The s10 would probably be better for media consumption. But if your priority is gaming, then this might be a better option. I've been using it for a few weeks now paired with a gamesir g8+ and it's great.

    I got one of these a few weeks ago when JB had them at this price and absolutely love it. Its super snappy and I've thown a bunch of roms at it and has played them all perfectly. Only up to GameCube mind you. Paired it with an x5 telescopic controller and it's been awesome for emulation. Screen is really good and the speakers are great too. For $500 with local warranty and works out of the box I think it's a great buy.

      I also didn't consider a tablet for that kind of use case (gaming beyond "app store" games ;) hehehe) I think I have enough portable devices for that purpose…. but I'd be keen to see what gaming on a tablet (outside of a Nintendo Switch 1/2, Lenovo Legion GO S, RG 35XXSP etc) is like!

      Same, got one too a few weeks back. It's a great device for gaming and manga/comics. And definitely worth it. Have been eyeing this for a while and didn't feel like getting one from AliExpress as I've experienced their non existent warranty.

    Man, if this had an unlocked bootloader and the support for arm Linux e.g. rocknix/armada, this would be an insta-buy. There's handhelds with similar chips that can run linux, but I want one without controllers attached so I can just use my steam controller.

        Yeah, but I also don't like the risk factor of ASUS hardware that is used.

        For light gaming, ARM is far more efficient though, even with FEX.

        Anyway, I have a Legion Go S and it does the job for now.

      Unlock bootloader is very straightforward. Generate a ZUI unlock file from this site (or do it yourself, find some guide on XDA)

    From my research this seems to be the perfect size for gaming on.
    This being the gen 3 is a 1600p screen which is much easier to run games at than the higher resolution on the gen4/5

    Been using my gen 3 Legion Tab for almost a year now. Absolutely my favourite tablet for media consumption. Snappy UI, high screen refresh rate so scrolling is way nicer and smoother than iPads. The small form factor means I can hold it comfortably in one hand for extended periods. Fits in the inner pockets of my jackets so I don't need to bring a bag to carry it or hold it in my hands.

    Don't know if it comes with a case & cover anymore (mine did when I got it), but you can get the official Lenovo Legion Tab cover case from Ali for around $20-30 delivered.

    Time will tell if its a wise or horrible investment lol. I have several ways to use it, gaming/streaming is the cherry on top.

    I was contemplating buying the "5th gen" from a computer shop. But really double the price for a micro sd slot…. and instances where the higher screen resolution means games could run worse ? I'll take my chances on older tech!

      Funny story, I was given the wrong tablet….. I didn’t realise it until I tried putting the 8.8inch screen protector and the tablet screen was larger.

      Also a way worse tablet despite the larger screen + additional sd card slot.

      Where it went wrong ? The plastic wrapping had the sticker of the model I wanted (aka this deal) MODEL: ZAEF0051AU SKU: 899476
      on the box of the 10 inch tablet.

      Anyway I've exchanged it for the correct model…. but I've now got to re order the screen protectors for it again (wasted them earlier).
