Civ 7 on the Switch is down to $36 on Amazon, which I think is an ATL. The upgrade to the Switch 2 version is also down to under $10, so you can effectively get the Switch 2 version for $46.

  • Good price but given how much Firaxis shat the bed with 7, I’m happy to wait 10 years for it to be like 3 Mars Dollars on whatever replaces Steam.

    • How do mars dollars compare to earth dollars? What's the exchange rate?

    • Honestly, after however many updates and DLCs, Civ 7 is a great game now. Very different to 6 but that's not unusual for this series. Just a shame it took two years to get there.

    • I'm an avid fan but this one sucks when compared to the previous version. I'll wait for it to be less than $10 with a ton of DLC.

  • I haven't played vii.
    Is it that bad?
Is the switch version a frustrating interface?

    • I've got about 150 hours on the Switch 2 version.

I won't defend the state of this game at launch as it wasn't great. The UI itself felt rushed and unfinished - you had to make decisions based on data and stats that weren't visible to you.
Cutting the game up into ages and the way they transitioned was jarring too.

      That being said…
There's been has massive patches in the last 12 months. The latest patch overhauled lots of the game.
For all the ball dropping at launch - Firaxis really feel like they're listening to the players.
Shoutout to One More Turn - he gives a great summary of the present state of the game:

I think a lot of current negative opinions of Civ VII likely haven't played the current version of the game.

I find the Switch UI fine. The Y button does a lot of work. It can be a bit cramped. Looks much better docked as it scales to look more like the PC version. I've tried it with a mouse too, but I just use the controller. It's fine. 90% of my playtime is handheld.

I'm really enjoying the game and would recommend it, but only with the Switch 2 upgrade.
It gets slow enough on Switch 2 - I don't think Switch 1 would be great. It also has the larger map sizes disabled for Switch 1.

Overall though, portable handheld continually-updated Civ VII - love it.

      • Thanks, very helpful.

        • Would HIGHLY recommend a mouse and keyboard if you're playing on Switch/Switch 2. As the other commenter said, the UI has improved loads since launch but it's still not really designed for a controller (even with the controller-specific quick select features).

    • i played 2 hr trial on ps5. did not like it that much tbh. but ymmv depending on how much you want to explore the game.

I'm sure its alot more enjoyable experience for those who'd gone down the road, for me I just didn't like how complex it has become and requires a diploma

  • I feel like Switch 2 version will get cheaper. Reviews look okay.

  • See YouTube reviews. This is ass

    • Switch 2 version is meant to be decent. Switch 1 version is meant to be cheeks.

  • It is really laggy on Switch 1 with long loading time between turns. Sold it and bought the PC version.

Still pretty fun for Civ's fans.

    • Can get pretty laggy with large maps on Switch 2 as well.

  • Just got the $624 switch 2 being new to switch consoles. What's the difference between switch 1 and 2 versions of the same game?

Mainly looking to play TV couch co op with the fam, but the switch graphics aren't the best kind of regretting not getting a rog ally or MSI claw and emulate switch games lol

    • Switch 2 version support any map sizes, Switch 1 only small maps. Also Joy cons can be used as a mouse, they added it only to Sw 2 version. Graphics was also improved.

      • Switch 2 has high end DLSS graphics, Switch 1 old ASS graphics.

  • For anyone interested in S2 version JB has it for $49
Its a few dollars more expensive but atleast you get a case (digital download) to sell/trade/share later

    • You'd be better off with the Switch 1 and Upgrade no? Switch 1 is physical (plus digital upgrade) and Switch 2 is code in box.

      • And what's your point? Either way, you need to download the game to reach S2?

        • switch 1 can be sold/trade/share, switch 2 code in a box cant once the code is used

  • I haven't played this series since the snes version. Is it pretty much the same map format?

    • Nah it sucks, you can't use your SNES Mouse with this one. Nintendo forcing you upgrade to JoyCon2 mouse. Scummy business practices forcing hardware mouse upgrades.

      • You can use any Bluetooth mouse and keyboard with Switch 2, or with a USB wifi dongle.

        • It was a joke based on godofpizza's comment that the last Civ game they played was also the last time Civ was on a non Switch nintendo platform (DS spin off not withstanding) which also supported mouse controls via the SNES mouse and that the current zeitgeist online is to bitch and moan about gaming companies having "scummy business practices" when they don't give away their work for free.

  • I got the Switch 1 version ages ago and it was virtually unplayable (could have been the previous edition but I still wouldn't risk it)

  • There's an afterpay10 deal for $100 spend. Anyway to use the coupon otherwise?
