Broadly the same as this deal, but with the cashback provider swapped to ShopBack and with a $10 bonus cashback quest (requires activation in the mobile app).

0.7 x $179 - $10 = $115.30.

$115.30 / 12 = an average of $9.60 per month for a year.

Random tidbits

• The ShopBack quest says the purchase can be made between 18 and 24 July, but the current ShopBack cashback rates (that have been elevated to 30%) end on the 21st, so buy between now and the 21st for the best deal.

• It says the bonus cashback will track separately by the end of July if you've fulfilled the conditions properly.

• Activate the ShopBack quest before purchasing and consider purchasing early in case there are a limited number of quest activations.

• The base price of the plan is $250 and has been discounted by Vodafone to $179. This "first party" discount expires on the 3rd of August.

• You should have an idea of whether Vodafone reception in the areas you frequent is acceptable before committing to a year long plan. A plan that cannot be used is not a good deal, no matter how cheap.

• If you live in the regions, Optus and Vodafone share their coverage to better team up against Telstra. You should still check your local coverage thoroughly before switching off Telstra.

• If Vodafone reception is acceptable to you and you are trying to decide between Vodafone direct and Vodafone MVNOs, Vodafone direct gives you 5G. This can be a good thing if you want faster speeds, but can also be a bad thing if you have a history of poor discipline with data rationing on long term plans.

    There hasn't been anything higher than 30% for the past few months.

    Also, with the $10 bonus cashback, the overall cashback rate becomes ~35.6%.

    I can't see anything in ShopBack's Vodafone Ts&Cs that disallows eSIMs.

    If you're talking about Vodafone themselves, they allow you to choose between eSIMs and physical SIMs.

    It's a major bummer. I'd love to have the data in a bank that you could withdraw from, but otherwise you had the throttled data available all the time.

  I'm planning to activate Vodafone SIM in 3 months' time when my current plan expires. Understand that I won't get the 50GB bonus data due to late activation. Does anyone know if I purchase this plan by 24 July, will I still get the 30% cashback?

    As noted in my first dot point, the 30% ShopBack rate might end on the 21st. It may continue after it, but it also may not. Either way, it stops being a good deal if you can't stack both the 30% and the $10 bonus cashback.

    Also, ShopBack's own Ts&Cs for Vodafone state:

    Cashback is only for new Vodafone customers. Activate the SIM card within 30 days of purchase.

    So I'd skip this deal if I were you. There will always be new deals in a few months time. Check the dates on the past few expired deals on the Vodafone deals page or the mobile plan deals page to get a sense of timing.

    You generally want to start looking for a new plan to switch around the 6 week mark before the end.

    He'd be better off SIM sluttting every 28 days with SIM's on special at Woolworths & Coles.

    Much more data, cheaper & don't have to commit to a full year.

      On a temporary basis, maybe.

      He should look into whether the 900GB $200 Kogan Mobile option may be suitable when it next pops up. Bonus points if there's also an alternative option to split it into 12 monthly blocks of 75GB.
