    Comapred to my 2010 Panasonic 1080p tv this seems amazing but i don't understand what it all means. Every tv i look at in JBHiFi looks amazing. But i just want a tv where the tennis ball doesn't blur.

            @Rated3: If you are watching free to air sports. ..then the pana is still as good as it gets.
            We have an LG OLED, and the upscaled 1080 isn't as good as raw 1080..
            But the OLED 4k content is next level compared to the pana.

      Turn of the motion smoothening on your tv. Tv's just add fake frames to make the video look "smooth". All it does is add ghosting and artifacts.

      Kills me to see people with 3 thousand dollar oled tv's with this shit on.

      No way you can view tennis on higher frames than 60hz, it's gonna have some blur.

      Keep in mind that similar accusations have been levied at all of the major TV manufacturers, though LG seem to be reaching for new lows with their monitor installation chicanery.

      The best move from a privacy standpoint seems to be to leave your TV disconnected from the internet and do everything through an Apple TV set top box. Or maybe GoogleTV if you (reasonably) decide that that privacy battle was lost long ago.

      Shame new execs come along and ruin these companies with dodgy business practices. Their engineers have done some good work and their products generally last for years. My LG CX is still running strong like a tank paired with a shield.

      As far as LED TVs go, Sony, Samsung and TCL are the only brands you should buy depending on your budget.

      High: Sony Bravia 7/9 II.
      Medium: Samsung R85/95H.
      Low: TCL C7/8L.

        Sony and TCL are good. However, to me Samsung TVs usually have noise reduction set too high by default, which washes out fine details, such as the darker patches on a football pitch.

        btw another Chinese brand Hisense also have some good models, not worse than TCL. (slightly better and more natural colour than TCL. But TCL's are more advanced in QD-Mini LED models .)

          Hisense shot themselves in the foot in Australia with their deceptive conduct so unfortunately, it's not a brand I can recommend. Our models are significantly inferior to overseas models. I used to work for them and you wouldn't believe some of the stories I have. My old boss is in jail for embezzlement.

            P.S TCL's Australian low to mid range models are very different from Nth American models (and usually we need to pay more than Americans), I wonder if those American models are better.

      No, it's Edge-Lit. If I had to choose between Edge-Lit and Direct-Lit which is this one, it would be Direct-Lit.

      OLED > Mini LED > FALD > Direct LED > Edge LED.

        It is most likely edge lit with Mini LED and it is not just backlight that matters, there is also the quantum dot part, which can fool people.

        The main issues with LG "Mini-LED" TVs are panel lottery and cheating with backlight (unless you pick its top of the range one (90B), but even that one isn't that great). This one has quantum dot, and mini LED (which probably will boost the max brightness over FALD standard LED).

        Last time I checked at Costco, LG has opted to use VA panel on it and next to TCL C6K, this LG in the demo loop looks nicer. The people next to me looking at both TVs were also confused with the result (because they too were expecting TCL to beat it). LG also appears to sharpen the image a bit more than C6K. I tried hard to steer those people away from this TV, but honestly, looking at the demo loop Costco put on for both TVs, most people will pick this over C6K if they do not know the technical bits.

        Things get worse for QNED86B as I have found both VA and IPS based Mini-LED TVs (when I visited a JB store). Different size, different panel type.

        AI Response said 2026 model is not edge lit- 75QNED80BSA = 2026 QNED80B = Mini LED backlight (not edge-lit), per what LG confirmed for this year's lineup. If Retravision had been selling last year's model, it would show up as 75QNED80ASA instead.

    It's a fake mini LED, doesn't have Local Dimming which suppose to be a standard for all the mini LED models. For this price I will go for low-mid range TCL mini LED models.

    For high end models, Sony and TCL aren't bad.
    However, to me Samsung TVs usually have noise reduction set too high by default, which washes out fine details, such as the darker spots on a football pitch. Not sure if user manually lower down noise reduction and change setting to natural colour will fix that or not.

    Btw compare to TCL, another Chinese brand Hisense with similar price range also have some good models, not worse than TCL. Slightly better and more natural colour than TCL. But TCL's are more advanced in QD-Mini LED models, and more gaming functions such as game mode low latency.

      LG and Samsung is cheating in the low end Mini-LED TV range. However, keep the facts right.

      • Mini-LED is just another type of backlight, that's the problem. There is no minimum local dimming zones required so LG and Samsung do cheat.
      • This TV most likely has dimming zones (because of the Mini-LED arrangement, despite being edge lit). However, it has 2 problems.
      • Edge lit with single digit dimming zone makes the local dimming basically a joke, BUT it technically is better (barely than one of the reasonably popular Dell monitor).

      This particular size and model of the TV appears to use VA panel. Problem is, with that choice, that will hide how lousy the backlight is with a black background.

      Btw compare to TCL, another Chinese brand Hisense with similar price range also have some good models, not worse than TCL

      We would assume that based on the cheating (and that's what I thought). However, at a Costco store, compared to TCL C6K (technically, this TV is meant to compete with C6L, but Costco only had C6K next to it), playing mostly SDR contents, the LG looks nicer (which shocked me and the people next to me). As I mentioned, I tried hard to convince them not to get the LG, but I couldn't just say the LG looked worse). Those people even called their family members and indicated the LG looks nicer. This is the problem with VA vs VA, SDR, and LG did dial up the brightness and sharpened the image more. Also, in the in store demo loop is too punchy so local dimming is not a factor.

        I get that not everyone has a Shield or ATV. But anyone who starts caring even remotely about their TV watching experience and performance, should. I haven't touched a TV OS (other than the initial setup process) in almost a decade.
