      The North Face is probably the worst case of enshittification in the gear market.

      For those that don't know, VF Corp bought a bunch of these gear companies, and once they had the market cornered, cut quality to save on cost and increase repurchasing.

    Had one for a little while and sent it back, they have no structure so no good as a daily commuter if thats what you need. Also with no structure, any weight you put in that front top pocket just crumples the rest of the backback.
    Great if you want something just to throw a jacket in…. but if thats all you need there are probably much cheaper options.

      Their updated backpacks aren't like they used to be. I was in NYC, and my previous model Recon backpack was stolen. In LA, on the way home, I stopped at the outlet store and got the new Recon for $60 USD. The quality has gone down. The bottom used to be a rubberised waterproof material, and that's gone. The front pocket completely folds over itself, tipping out the contents of anything not zipped. This is my fourth Recon bag and I'd probably not buy one again. This bag also has the same front pocket.

        The outlets have some great stuff, but a lot of stores sell lower quality versions so perhaps you bought a cheapened outlet version of the "same" backpack?

        Osprey Transporter Small. Got the zip top version but there are multiple models. Doesn't look too outdoorsy, has side pockets for a small water bottle and a good stable laptop sleeve.

        I've got a Bellroy. Lightest backpack I can find, by a long shot. Depending on how far you commute, the weight is noticeable on your shoulders.

        I'm in tech, after a few ospreys and northfaces didn't cut it. I ended up getting a aer city pack pro from AliExpress. People say they arnt legit but I went to the aer shop in tokyo to check out a real one. I couldn't tell the difference and mine has held up solid for over a year now. It cost me $180 and would buy another one in a heart beat.

      I used to have the old one and complained it was too rigid at the back and too heavy of the solid insert, but I guess now the alternative is worse.

    Any good recommendations on laptop bags which can serve as day-to-day laptop and lunch box responsibilities, but during holidays, hold as a cabin bag replacement (due to 7kg limit, required to hold laptop, iPad, some clothes)?
