Ready Player One (2018) - Free to Stream with Ads @ SBS on Demand

690

(Expires in 1 week) a bit old but this popular movie now added to SBS On Demand.

you can watch ad free with V_N or Brave browser probably. the resolution probably not enough to look perfect with all the effects, but it's free.

it's been awhile since I watched it so I don't remember fully, but it was ok. not super amazing like you would expect for the situation/story but I guess some dialogue and ideas around the internet and socials? can't remember but movie was a bit too family friendly I think.

Synopsis

In 2045, the creator of a virtual reality universe dies and leaves his fortune to the first person to discover a digital Easter egg. Soon, young Wade Watts finds himself in a reality-bending treasure hunt through the mysterious and fantastical world.

  • First to the key…

    • First to the egg.

  • The Gundam scene was peak!

  • A movie about gamers, that probably only non-gamers will enjoy. Such a let down.

    • do you whinge about every (profanity) thing?

  • 8 year old film, feeling old yet?

  • this was popular? lol

    • going by how this SBS on demand deal has the most upvotes out of the streaming posts I posted. yes it was popular.

what popular movie did you watch when you were still in school?

  • Watched this after listening to the audiobook, was very disappointed

    • Yeah, the book was wayyyy better.

      • Just came here to ask. This vs book vs audiobook, which is best?

        • Haven’t listened to the audiobook. I know people often just say the book is better (usually due to more detail) but there were some fundamental differences that changed the character.

        • Don't bother with the movie, read/listen to the book

  • i love the book so much

  • Great movie!
Sounds like I should read the book though!

  • Batman playing on free to air next bargain

  • "Remember nostalgia?" the movie.

  • Tried to watch it last night. There were no subtitles available, and the video compression shat the bed with all the fast-moving CGI - at times it was like watching a blocky old 320p video back in the 2000s. We gave up after 30 mins or so.

  • What's v_n?

    • VPN I just type it like that because I think it's fair to run ads on free service. so they should get as many ad revenue as they can get imo.

at least my hope is they make the video quality better in 720P they are cheaping out on it so scenes for example with a lot of movement and trees ends up looking like pixel art.

      • 'free service'?
The average household is paying $35 per year in tax to SBS. I doubt most ever watch that trash.
Sure it's less bad than each household forced to pay $130 per year for ABC trash but certainly not free.
Next fed gov might fix that though.

        • what makes it trash? I hardly ever watch it ( only when someone recommends a movie on it), but haven't noticed it being trashy 🤷

        • Where’d you get these figures from?

        • The content on sbs and abc is always improving, I hadn't looked at fta on demand stuff for a couple years and compared to 2 years ago the quality and variety is so much better. You're paying for it so may as well use it.

        • ABC and SBS content is way better than what you can get from the other networks these days.

Unless you want to see the same recycled reality stuff loaded with embedded ads. The Block, MAFS… ugh

        • SBS $370m/year from tax / 10m households = $37 a year per household
          ABC $1.3b/year from tax / 10m households = $130 a year per household

      • How would using a VPN make it ad free?

        • mentioned before but I claimed lifetime free vpn app, and it also blocks trackers so I don't get any ads.

I just assumed all VPN works this way?

          • @skibidigrimacmoggr67: not all and that's not really the point of a vpn as you know im sure

          • @skibidigrimacmoggr67: make sure you read the terms of your agreement, your data may be getting sold or used in other ways…

            • @klownz: it was a long time ago.

back when gizmodo would post like 10 free app deals per week. I didn't install every one but the lifetime vpn on stood out to me.

I'm not actually using the vpn function just the ad block function so I'm not concerned about data. it's just for daily internet browsing on ipad not doing important stuff on there.

  • the funko pops of movies

  • legit in my top 10 movies of all time.. it just nailed it for me, very fun and the nostalgia is elite. great visuals and audio too, its usually always my reference if i ever get new audio gear or tv.

    • Really? I thought they reckoned Spielberg should just retire after he made this.

  • Good movie but sbs spoils it with poor bit rate

    • poor bit rate

agree sbs needs to fix this, at least with movies like this.

I barely notice it for slow movies typically foreign ones. but they need to increase the video quality of action, war and those with many effects.

  • One of the best Atmos movies out there

  • Amazing movie, if you're a geek or nerd, you'll enjoy all the easter eggs.

    I wish there would be a #2

  • could of been so much better.

    • my opinion also. agree could have done so much with the situation/story.

but most people seemed very happy with it so I thought I was just the odd one.
