CamelCamelCamel. So would Lawrence of West Footscray….
As someone who threw out all their dvds then realised the joys of locked DRM over the years I’ve started buying 4K again. Just watched Mattix on 4K with my son and it was so good. Streaming is definitely good enough but it’s simply not as good. Grab classics while you can. Watch them when you want. And they sound great on a decent set up. I only have a Bose soundbar + sub but it’s not drowned out.. it’s just punchy like the movies. Might have to pick this up
Seedbox + plex + ugoos coreelec. Literally 100% the same result, only cheaper.
But you can't display it on your shelf and it's alot of effort haha
I’m an oldie (not great with tech) and took me an hour to set up the above… it’s not hard.
Have this movie sitting on my hdd forever.
Storage prices are not helping right now
You wouldn't even have that as an option, if people weren't buying them in the first place.
That's like saying you can't steal a wallet if people don't have money.
freemkv is the tool you need to rip 4K discs and get past the locked DRM. You'll need the keys database too.
For that though, you do need a Bluray or 4k Drive on a PC… which are not cheap.
They're not outrageously expensive. I picked up a Verbatim 43888 (with the old chipset that works out-of-the-box) for $140 a couple of years ago.
While that model has been updated with a less-compatible chipset now, there are still plenty of options available.
@axyh: What's the alternative? I've read the older drive had the Pioneer BDR-UD04 (or BDR-UD03) chipset but they now use the Hitachi-LG BU40N chipset which does require firmware flashing to enable full UHD ripping capabilities. - haven't seen 140$ though. Maybe wait till November 🤔
@cobknob: Here was the deal I picked mine up on: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/857963
At the time, OzBargain comments were complaining it "used to be $99"!
The MakeMKV forum has a list of recommended drives, but if it's not a Pioneer UHD drive, it will probably need flashing (which seems straightforward, but always involves a few nerve-wracking minutes while the flashing process is occurring):

DVD is unwatchable today anyway compared to 4K, especially for a movie like this.
Just watched Mattix on 4K
Who played in Mattix???
Never heard of it.
Another disadvantage of throwing out your DVD's is that a lot of the newer releases 1080p and 4K Blu-Ray releases don't include all of the extras the original DVD's used to.
To say nothing of the rare special extras on some laserdiscs.
This is a great movie that looks incredible on BR with a quality big screen TV. They weren't mucking around and cutting corners when they made it back in the day.
That artwork is hideous.
It's the best poster for the movie. It's by one of the best movie poster guys, he did the main sound of music poster too.
But its not the whole poster, and the colours are completely off from the original poster. And how do you qualify "best movie poster"? Combining cubist-inspired style with realistic characters at the sides in such a way is yucky, it doesn't really matter if "meh 1960s OG poster".
Out of all the alternate and intentional posters for this movie, that is the best one.
@antman: Yes. As a movie poster it looks way better, though still not a huge fan. Also, that shows the artist as Saverio Pavone, not Howard Terpning, who did the main Lawrence poster and was the one who did the Sound of Music. Their styles are completely different.
Agreed. Dreadful poster.
No prisoners! No prisoners!!
A film that has outlived!!
Ah the history behind all the problem nowadays
we didn't start the fire
it was always burning since the world was turning
Not all but certainly a weeping sore. The British Empire rode roughshod over the “natives” in a number of countries. Like the modern day Americans they had a knack of leaving an invaded country worse off than when they turned up to “civilise” it. They seemed to be pretty good at infrastructure and crap at politics.
People talk about the British empire as if they were the first or only Empire. England didn't let the Vikings stop their development and Dublin was once the world's largest slave market.
Civilisations and wealth have always come and gone. In 100 hundred years, whatever the British empire has done will be totally irrelevant to the world order.
Where we are now is the sum of what happened in history. Who knows what will be relevant in 100 years?
Of course there were empires before the British Empire. Most of them certainly weren’t benign. It isn’t a competition on which empire was more or less evil.
@try2bhelpful: I do just fine it amusing. They never matched their contemporaries in deliberate cruelty and violence.
They also built far more useful civil infrastructure and developed educated local administrators and officials while most other empires did not. As a result, their colonies did not totally collapse into war and famine upon independence.
Besides, what really changed? Former colonies continue to have their natural resources exploited by all countries just through capitalism and a lack of security.
There are no certainly no good empires but as a matter of intergalactic perspective, one might be willing to say "The (British) Empire did nothing wrong." :)
That is to say, they are so far left on the sliding scale of not bad to terrible that you might judge their overall impact on the modern world as fairly neutral.
@Maker1: Even on a intergalactic level you can’t say the “did nothing wrong”. The best you can say is they weren’t all bad. However, some of them were absolutely horrendous. They had very little concern for the original inhabitants and ecosystems of regions they conquered. Their impact on the modern world is ongoing and across almost every continent. They liked to plant flags in a lot of places.
If you ever get the opportunity to see this projected in 70mm, go.
Bought this just last week at $35. You're welcome, everybody.
A great movie showing why the ME is and always will be a shit show.
Recommend also watching it in 70mm such as here in Sydney https://www.orpheum.com.au/movie/lawrence-of-arabia-70mm
If you have never been, it is unlike any other general cinema experience. I thought there would only be a few people in the cinema from the older generation - it was completely filled with teenagers through to thirty somethings. The quality is top notch and felt less commercial i.e. ads, etc and more like a spectacle with the curtains and musical score before the movie starts.

Or in Melbourne at the Astor.
Or Sun Theatre in Yarraville.
Arguably the greatest looking movie ever filmed, the visuals are insane.
I agree entirely. Possibly peak cinematography in cinema history.
Further, a largely progressive (and slightly subversive) film for its time.
An absolute masterpiece, certainly in my top 5 films of all time.
What about James Cameron's classic Avatar? Arguably the best movie of the past 20 years.
lol
lmao, even
lol that aint even cameron's best movie let alone 'best of all time'
animated blue mfs come on
Reminds me of this YouTube video
Can you name a single character from the highest grossing film of all time?
Reminds me of this tape I saw in an adult store…
Lawrence of Labia. 😆😅
Do NOT google that!
I love the joke names for adult movies. I’m sure there is a Star Whores out there somewhere. The original has lines like “You came in that, you are braver than i thought” and “aren’t you a bit short for a storm trooper”. It would write itself.
I seem to recall this being riffed on comprehensively in Kevin Smith's Zac and Miri Make a Porno (2008).
Thanks. Will look up the discussion.
Thanks OP, through your deal I saw Heat 4k for $24.29 which is not an ATL but I'm hot for this movie ATM and I'm not sure they sell this locally anymore so it was good enough for me.
Shows as $39.24 for me.
Yeah price I got it for has gone it seems.
If I had 4k player, this would be among my first purchases. Brilliant movie.
EzyDvd still has this on sale for $35 if you want to stick it to Amazon. Obviously $5 more expensive but better than the JB price.
https://www.ezydvd.com.au/blu-ray/Lawrence-of-Arabia-4K-UHD-…
I'm gonna hold for a better price in the meantime
Better than $29? I've been keeping an eye out for this one for over a year now and never seen it below $35. Never managed to see a physical copy at a store either.
Stock sold out before I could grab it :(
Has anyone had their order shipped yet? Looks like it didnt go OOS but Amazon increased their price, I wonder if it was a price error?
Yep, mine's shipped scheduled for arrival 14 August…
Lord Miles would love this!
