  • I suppose you shouldn't sail the high seas for this one…. or would you? I'm confused.

  • Is this like One Piece?

    • Nothing at all like One Piece. It's an under-appreciated show though, (mostly) good storyline and acting

    • It is a very different story - it is a "prequel" to the events of the classic Treasure Island book.

It is a great show imo - great production value and great acting. Well worth a watch.

      • It is a great show imo

        Agreed.

Plenty of boobies too, from memory. If you're into that.

        • Added to list.

        • So One Piece

        • definitely

  • Says "Seasons 1", hope the title is wrong and not the description?

    • I've had that happen in the past with other titles. Usually if the cover art and description match, it should be what you receive. It mentions it's a 13 disc set, which would be way too many discs for a single season.

      • Thanks, I ordered.

  • This show is top tier - almost up there with Sopranos/The Wire/Breaking Bad/BSG for me….definetly on par with Game of Thrones(earlier seasons)/Rome/Band of Brothers etc

Buy it if you can…if not….uhhh…. pirate it?

    • I wouldn't say it's good as 1-4 (peak) GoT, or Rome. It's good, but not that good. Might be on par with Breaking Bad, but I preferred The Wire and Sopranos.

      • genre hopping does make for hard comparisons, i agree… my point is its a quality show worth watching/buying…id say definelty on par with Rome as a comparable genre and retelling of historical characters/settings though

and apples are definetly better than oranges :)

  • I only made it half way through Season 1 - to me it had that slightly off, Amazon Prime/Starz vibe to it, where it looked like it was trying to be prestige TV, but never quite came together and felt a bit cheap and hokey.

HOWEVER, I've had friends say it's amazing, and if I'd stuck with it it really finds its feet in Season 2.

I'm on the fence whether to give it another go - I'm not sure I have the patience or time anymore to stick with something, but I DO believe my friends…

    • I can confirm it improves after Season 1. Some really great writing in the later seasons, it's worth sticking with.

    • even just the second half of season 1 is enough to hook you. You should hold out till the end atleast

    • try it again matey…great story, with attention to detail against historical real life pirate legends and colonial politics of the time.

you will actually learn a lot of history too - a truly fascinating period in lawlessness and subsequent law in the americas.

    • elite show and toby stephens gives the performance of a lifetime. absolutely finish it.

      • Hmmm, Toby Stephens looks like Michael Fassbender, Tahmoh Penikett and Eric Stoltz all somehow had a lovechild together?

    • OK, you've convinced me to take the first step and buy it. I suppose second step is to watch it! :P

    • to me it had that slightly off, Amazon Prime/Starz vibe to it, where it looked like it was trying to be prestige TV, but never quite came together and felt a bit cheap and hokey.

Fair comment, though I would say it holds up fine within that category and is definitely not towards the bottom of the bell curve.

The quality did slide towards the end, as it does for so many shows. In particular the conflict between the main characters felt forced and unconvincing to me.

Earlier seasons were better, but it was still ok to watch all the way to the end.

  • This just reminded me we are getting closer to Sat, 19 Sept.

  • Just reading reviews, complaints about no CC subtitles after S1.

If so, and you require CC, that'll be a deal breaker

  • If you liked story/setting/atmoshpere of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, you'll love this deal - lots of character/background plot overlap

  • Loved the "plot" in this show

  • It's a great show but I think it got cancelled

  • Cheers, bought it. Worth a go for $38. Never seen it, but heard mostly good things from those that have. If it is rubbish, I will just sell it:)
