  • "The 54mm porta-filter with 19 grams is the key for full flavour and cafe quality coffee"

Can anyone recommend an accurate set of scales?

I reckon 18grams is too much for this 54mm portafilter.

    • Isn’t one of the best things to do with this machine is to change the portafilter to a bottomless one so you’re not using the pressurised one that comes with this?

      • These machines come with four baskets - 1 & 2 Cup Single & Dual Wall Filter Baskets

      • Correct.

I purchased the Breville 54mm naked portafilter and paired it with an IMS basket. https://amzn.asia/d/0dZmdXkV

Also still rocking this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/911877

      • I've been using a non-pressurised portafilter for the past few years. But 18-19grams is still too much for a 54mm portafilter in my experience.

Anyway, what does your "bottomless portafilter" comment have to do with my question? lol

        • 18gm is fine for me. Dark roast.

    • Mm I've no issue with the 54mm with either the stock filter or aftermarket filter

    • 18g is recommended by breville, 19g may work depending on roast density of coffee.

      • That's what the manual says, for my old "bambino plus"…

… so I was intrigued to read the comment on the Amazon listing, seems like a load of old balls: "The 54mm porta-filter with 19 grams is the key for full flavour and cafe quality coffee"

    • You can fit 18 grams in but not much more.

  • how many grams of coffee does cafe use for a standard size latte?

  • I have this model. The biggest annoyance about this machine is that it forces you to do their cleaning cycles once it reaches a certain amount of uses.

I get really aggravated when I am trying to make a cup, but the machines says nope, do a clean first (descale, group head clean, wand clean, whatever). The worst ones is where I pour my espresso shot, proceed to steam my milk, but the machine stops there and you are forced to run the clean cycle.

Despite what the manual says, you cannot bypass or cancel the clean. Now, they may have done updates to the machine since I purchased mine 1 year ago, but this is something I wish I knew before buying.

Other than that, it is a brilliant little machine.

    • This is true. But if you have a routine of running the clean cycle manually, then it's alright.
Estimate how long it takes for you to reach 200 shots including blanks, then give a buffer (or not).

      Blanks 1 per day
      Double 2 per day
Total 5 per day. So Max 40 days. Clean every 5 weeks.

    • I don't own this machine but I plan to purchase it soon. You can bypass the cleaning cycle, press and hold the steam button for 5 seconds and let go.

      • I bought my machine in 2025, you cant bypass it.

Take note the model linked is SAGE and not Breville, I think different markets models can, but not my 2025 Breville one

        • Well that is a letdown… I've seen some people say you need to turn it off/on or unplug it and then press hold the steam

          • @linx8: It sure is, especially when you're about to pull a 2nd shot after grinding your beans…ive tried every 'trick' online and doing a power cycle. nothing works.

I thought my 'later' model would've had this 'bug' / 'feature' fixed but doesnt seem like it so im guessing it's because Australia has hard water so Breville forces us to do it.

  • I'm loving my bambino plus. I bought recently and was able to double up on the comp beans. Signed up once with the serial number and once with the receipt. Separate emails.

  • I bought this and store it in my locker at work. Makes going in on those two days more bearable as the coffee is equivalent to what I make at home.

    • That sir is, quite a commitment. Do you also have a hand grinder or an electric grinder in your locker?

      • hand grinder

  • It’s an ok machine, esp if you need a small one and have a grinder. I rate the red colour.
I’d suggest the barista pro is better overall. But I do really rate the auto purge feature here.

Good starter machine. The auto milk froth is ok but overheats the milk

  • do u guys think is worth it to get a gemilai owl g3006a from China ?
Is at a similar price compare to this, with more features and build quality.
But no warranty, and i need to pay 50 aud for shipping,

    • I'm looking at the Gemilai CRM3007L, looks like a very good machine for the dual use for brew/steam without the long switchover times.
If you dont do milk then plenty of good options out there.

      • If you can go for 3007Z. I just received my order from Taobao. Upgraded from Barista Express

    • I just received my 3007Z from Taobao, an upgrade from Barista espress.i can say its way better than Breville

      • Good to hear. I'm sure is a huge upgrade, how long did it take for they to ship it from China?

        • 30 days. Its flat rate shipping so its better if you order a few more things

      • Nice to hear! Please post a review after you've given it a good go. I'm also upgrading from a Barista Express

        • I was about the get the new Whale model but the price is way too expensive compared to ECM or oter Italian made machine.
My review gonna be the same as the review on YouTube anyway, but if you live close to Mornington Peninsula, you can come to my place to check it out
