Which Entrance Test Does Each Victorian SEAL School Use? I Compiled What They Publish

Every SEAL school picks its own entrance test and sets its own test date, and there's no central list anywhere — the accreditation body's own register has been showing a placeholder for months. So working out what your kid would actually sit means ringing around.

I went through 34 SEAL schools' websites and put what each one publishes into a single page, with a link to the school page I read it from so you can check me:

https://www.mockytest.com/victorian-seal-and-selective-schoo…

Fair warning: only 19 of the 34 name their test online. For the other 15 I've said "not published" rather than guessing, because a wrong entry here is worse than a blank one.

Disclosure: I built it, and the same site sells practice tests, so I'm not a neutral party. The directory is free and there's no signup on it.

If your school publishes something different from what I've got, tell me and I'll fix the row.

  • Is there one for PENGUINS ?

    • I wish.. would be easier…

    • H5N1 has been detected in penguins and the ones at Phillip Island are getting vaccinated.
It has also been detected in long-nose fur seals but there is no vaccine for them yet.

    LOL

    • i bUiLt it

      Of course they did…

      • It took me 3 months to build it. Not easy to get the quality right

  • Yet another new member who only joined to spam.

  • I was hoping these would be the questions from Navy SEAL training.

    • lol

  • I built it

    sure you did

    • It took me a while :P

  • Need a better name than “mockytest”

    • Famously, the two hardest things in software development are:

      • cache invalidation
      • naming things
      • off-by-1 errors
      • Haha, you nearly got me…

      • you know software development very well.

I don't have marketing experiences and I am bad at names

    • I know but I am not good at names

      • Ask your AI generator.

      • I'd start with things along the line of

        • excellence or mastery through practise
        • reaching your true potential
        • peak performance
        • nailed it
        • or even around something that you're actually providing that people are likely to google (subject to existing copyright and trademarks) - SEAL practise?

        • think long term as well. At this stage your target audience is Victorian SEAL testing. Long term you may want to expand into the equivalent of other states, other types of academic testing/other year levels and even into the likes of those Briggs tests used for aptitude assessment etc.

Think big, but mockytest doesn't scream "good quality, trustworthy product that you should spend money on to ensure your child's future success".

        • I started building this for my daughter. It was fun and it took me a long time to improve the quality. We all know what AI can do and cannot do. I don't think it will never be perfect but my daughter says it is kind of 50% accurate. She's done her selective exam. She told me she did see some similar questions from the AI genereated mock tests.

Thinking long term, I know it is easy to expand to other states, especially NSW (more schools and students). But I'd like to receive some early feedback first.

          • @mockytest: Be fast, many others are already doing similar, though their starting point was not from your perspective.

I think that you have a good angle, but you can't be asking others to find faults or missing bits for you, you need to be working those out lol. It erodes confidence in your product.

The continually generated test questions are great, particularly if after the test is completed there is an opportunity to have a second go and then when that is being marked to show computer modelling of what the working out would look like on paper if written with explanation.

These tests are fantastic, but kids still need to be given the opportunity to engage their hand/brain motor memory as well.

If you perfect your idea, there's no reason why it can't one day be made available at a school or commercial level.

            • @Satchimo: That is very insightful and encouraging !

I've checked a few similar sites. They only offer 10 questions per test and the quality is very bad. I'm releasing the first version after working on the quality for 3 months and I'll continue working on the quality.

It has explanations so kids can learn from mistakes on their own.

  • "So working out what your kid would actually sit means ringing around" "only 19 of the 34 name their test online" so…. why didn't you ring around for the other 15?

    • Why do that when he can ask us to let him know and then he'll just "fix that row"?

You don't keep dogs and bark yourself. OP wants us to do his barking for him.

  • I often think of this kid and wonder how his life is going.

    @blitzzbargain - any updates?

    • "are you doctor yet?"

  • Question 1 relates to the following quotation.

They makign them read dante so young

It is not knowledge if it is grasped but not retained.
    Dante, The Divine Comedy

    1 This quotation emphasises

    A understanding.
    B thoroughness.
    C decisiveness.
    D memory

    • E - spelling and punctuation

    • They makign them read dante so young

It is not about what they have read. The source is really not relevant for the purposes of answering the question.
