Another filament deal from Elegoo on their blog, this time a repeat of the PLA Wood which was quite popular.

Mix any 5 wood colours for $75 ($15 per kg), normally $124.95 ($24.95 per kg)

Filament Colours
  • Wood filled
  • Light Brown
  • Walnut
  • Rosewood
  • Tan Birch
  • Medium Brown

These are not filament with wood fibers but wood powder.
It has a smell & matte finish.

Wood Grain Slicing Technique

If you picked up a new 3D printer recently, this is a fun one to try out.

Combine it with this wood grain technique to get a realistic wood look
The results are quite impressive if you look at the review section

Other Wood Grain Modifiers

Printing Details

Printing is pretty standard, just like regular PLA.

  • Can we mix and match?

    • yes, any 5 wood rolls

  • I can see these sitting in my collection for many years

    • Same! I have 3 50L plastic boxes full of them. I may need a 4th one.

      • I recently added everything to Spoolman and counted 100 rolls…
Going to add Tiger Scale V3.

The NFC workflow is so much easier with multi toolhead printers.

        Time to get printing!

        • Spoolman? I should look in to this. Last count was 130ish, but I've gone through 28kgs in 3 weeks!

        • +1 for mentioning Spoolman. Been printing for ages and I've never heard of this. Sounds so useful.

          • @wallet72: what printer are you using?

            • @3dprintdeals: I have a modded Ender 3, an Ender CRX and an original Snapmaker

The enders are managed via Octopi off a Pi4 (using Docker to server to instances) and the Snapmaker is stupidly proprietary so it's USB sticks for that one.

I usually get too much filament when I see specials so I have what seems to be the mandatory 3 plastic tubs of spools :)

  • Awesome thanks for that

I’ve got a number of Tiki coolers / plant holders I can print with this.

  • I have a roll of wood from Bambu, idk what to do with it

    • Apparently bamboo is not technically wood; it is a fast-growing, woody grass belonging to the family Poaceae

  • The quality of this "wood" PLA is much, much worse than normal PLA from Elegoo (or any other brand).
The final result does not look like wood at all, more like a plastic with a weird colour.
Ive bought it from the last deal and never buying it again.

    • Out of curiosity, is that in comparison to other wood filaments, or just ordinary PLA?

I'd say the resultant prints look like MDF (assuming you get that colour), but they certainly won't look like natural timber (unless you do something clever with wood-grain print modifiers).

  • Does anyone know if you need to get a special nozzle for these? Or will my standard stainless steel one work?

  • I added 5 separate colours to my order, but got all the same colour delivered today.

Not too happy, but will see how their customer service respond.

    • I'm sure they will sort you out.

Maybe you even get to keep the other 4 spools

      • After close to two weeks of back and forth, they finally agreed to return the lot for refund, but only after I had to argue with them repeatedly to get them to accept that I should not be paying return shipping or restocking fee for what was their mistake.

Based on this customer service experience, will not go near them again, even if prices are good.

  • First time I ever tried a wood filament, so can't compare against another brand but it's weird to print with… This filament arrived wetter than other elegoo filaments, loves to clump if it's been heating in the extruder longer than usual and bed adhesion is mediocre.
