    Is that a feature?

  • Why settle for one of those Standard Utility Vehicles (SUV), when you could have a eXceptional Utility Vehicle (XUV).

    • I'll wait for a XXXUV

      • Does it require age-verification before you can start the engine though (unless you live in the ACT)?
Actually come to think of it, that would fix most of the car theft issues around here.

        • XXXUV is rated for faketaxi

    • Isuzu had the best….mysterious utility.

  • I want this to not sound culturally sensitive but an Indian man roasted me as I asked him about this brand as I did not say it right. Then he went on about how good Suzuki’s are in India. He wasn’t excited about the brand is my point.. He did offer me over for dinner one day as his wife likes to cook big 5 different dishes at a time.

    • I found out recently they actually make the 5 door suzuki jimnys in india, they are popular over there.

      • yep but they aint $40k over there though

        • Just a bit over 20k for one if you convert the indian rupee to aud.
Hmmm almost like we are being price gouge….
It would be lower to buy in India because it is manufactured in India.
But 20k more to buy it here, seems excessive, buy hay, I do not import cars.

          • @CheapCookie: suzuki CEOs gots to eat

that's what i love about Japan and others

they make shitters in india sell it to you for top dollar and pocket the difference…

i feel much less shit about Indian companies doing the same because… ya know…

            • @tonyjzx: Yeah, Japanese car companies are definitely running off the hype of Japanese made or Japanese branded cars at this point.
It's basically become a household stable to think anything Japanese branded or made is reliable and will last years and years.
But at what price point is that worth paying up to?
I was even reading that the modern Landcruiser's are becoming more of a status statement piece then a good old work horse, just because of how high of a price they are selling for now.

With the EV chinese made car invasion currently happening, people are realising they can buy cars for just 22k or a bit more or a bit less and get a 7 year warranty, then chuck the car away after.

              • @CheapCookie: The Suzuki Ignis and Swifts are genuinely pretty good value. Simple, easy to access designs means cheap to repair and maintain. In fact, they rarely break down as well. At their price points, I wouldn't consider these models overpriced either. This is getting a bit sidetracked from Mahindra which is really the topic here though.

          • @CheapCookie:

Hmmm almost like we are being price gouge….

      • Same ones imported and sold here now.

    • Mahindra

      The name itself sounds Indian

    • A lot of FOB Indians say things they don’t necessarily believe simply to sound cool or fit in. There is also a tendency among some to internalise a colonial mindset and succumb to tall poppy syndrome, instinctively dismissing or undermining anything that is successful and distinctly Indian.

I was an engineer at Suzuki. The cars manufactured and designed there are distinctly Indian.Suzuki might be a Japanese company, but it makes more money in India than in Japan.

      • The Alto the Fronx?
Not sure how proud of those I would be

        • You don't have to be proud of the Alto or Fronx personally. Suzuki's shareholders probably are — the Alto has sold 4.7 million+ units in India, and the Fronx has already passed 550,000 in just over three years.

But that wasn't really the point. These cars are designed and engineered for a very price-conscious Indian market, where keeping costs down is critical. The fact that Suzuki then sells essentially the same products in Australia for a considerably higher price is a separate issue — that's about Suzuki's Australian pricing strategy, not the quality, origin or engineering of the cars.

So if the argument is that Suzuki is price-gouging Australians, blaming the fact that the cars are Indian-designed/manufactured doesn't really make sense. If anything, it makes the pricing difference more interesting.

And you can't exactly expect Ferrari-level engineering and materials when the entire car is designed to hit a price point that's roughly equivalent to iPhones 18 duo. The engineering objective is fundamentally different: maximise practicality, reliability and value while keeping the manufacturing cost extremely low.

    • This some random Indian or a colleague?
So nice to invite you over!

    • I did not say it right

Just remind him sanskrit isn't a real language anyway, that's why he attempts to speak the King's English.

  • Anyone got one of these? Will it last 7 years?

    • Very generally speaking, a highly-stressed, tiny displacement turbo engine should give at least 5-ish years before you would be testing your luck.
This engine is the opposite of a low stressed, large displacement Aussie six, of the type that lasted forever
I you did buy it, I would suggest also planning to sell it before the warranty ran out

      • Puts out 82KW, it's not highly stressed.

        • Yes but it's only 1.2 litres. Tiny.

          • @King Tightarse: Suzuki 1.0l 3 cylinder turbo puts out 82kw. In comparison it’s not particularly boosted.

            • @Brick Tamland: Yes but I was going for a general rule here: (generally) creating power with a small displacement + turbo will not last as long as high displacement (more torque) and no turbo when hauling similar weights. They are of course many, many variables but its a reasonable general point

              • @King Tightarse: True. Those days of big lazy engines are pretty much over becuse of emissions. The turbo in this is probably tiny.

          • @King Tightarse: mate it's not the 1980s. Yes big dumb engines will absolutely last longer but as noted 82kw from 1.2L is absolutely fine. At least it isn't a higher displacement Ford engine ey…

            • @drprox: it only has to last out the warranty my guy

also my neighbour had a Commodore… like a GM3800 ecotec one

the motor lasted FOREVER… everything around it was flogged out

i've had japanese cars where the motor was stellar… plain PFI fours… but everything else was ready for simsmetal

              • @tonyjzx: To be fair at this point even if it fully depreciated within the 7 years it's still going to sell.

          • @King Tightarse: That really doesn't mean that much these days

      • I would suggest also planning to sell it before the warranty ran out

You realised this is a $22k car; there isn't much of a price difference between 5yo and 7yo, when the biggest depreciation occurs in the first three years.

        • Better to sell it with a few years left on the warranty

      • a highly-stressed, tiny displacement turbo engine

        It's not highly stressed.

    • Sure it will, but not sure how many years would be in mechanics workshop.

    • https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-reviews/2026-mahindra-xuv-3… did a three month test and seemed happy enough with it for the price:
"The Mahindra XUV 3XO is a great first car or an ideal second family car for shorter trips. If you are looking for a great value proposition at this price point, then having the 3XO on your shopping list is a must."

      • i think realisitcally the world has had 1.0 1.2 1.5 liter shitboxes for a LONG time now and overall they arent as unreliable as people make it out to be

as long as they arent wet belts like this amazingly reliable Ford Rangers it should do 7yrs with just standard servicing

i dont think they would do 7 yrs if it was gonna fuc up on them

if you are just booting it around town for shops work schools then i think reliability should be ok

      • There'll all shills now for awful shitboxes like this and super cheap crap Chinese EV's.
        It's just cash for comments

    • My 24yo has had hers for a year. She was one of the first purchasers.

Her 2004 Honda Accord Euro Luxury had become (in her opinion) uneconomic to repair and she thought it wouldn't pass the next rego inspection so she sold it for $2500.

She couldn't be bothered (or had time) looking for something decent 2nd hand and then (we) saw this for $23500 (?) drive away. There was no possibility for negotiation. No free mats. It had at best 15 litres of fuel in it. Tynan Sutherland were their typical a-hole selves.

She had one problem at 2 months. It wouldn't start. Totally dead. Tynan says it was a flat battery but it took them 10 working days to diagnose and their "fix" was to charge the battery. The after sales service was quite poor. The founder, Michael Tynan (who my family had a fair bit to do with) would have been rolling in his grave.

Apart from that it's been a great city runabout and she's also done a few trips of several hundred kms. It sits on 110kph just fine.

If she was buying right now she'd probably get an ATTO 1 because an EV would suit her usage profile better.

  • I guess they are responding to the Emzoom deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/971826

    • seems like a much better car

  • 1392kg kerb weight. 82kw from a 1.2L turbo… is it just me or does this sound underpowered?

    • Its very underpowered. The Emzoon linked above has 125Kw, hauling about the same weight.

    • the kerb weight is kinda ridiculous… it should be 100kg less at least given the size

paul maric the not car expert says it does 0-100 in 11.2 and 0-60 in 4.5

that's fine for the people buying a shopping trolley

this is miles ahead of a $19,990 MG3 but you spend more you get a lot more

the enzoom is like $26k but i couldnt do that car or this shitter… nah

      • You're saying "shitter" quite frequently, are you perhaps typing these comments while being on the shitter?

        • I might be wrong but I think he's been banned in a number of car forums for being a bit of a troll so maybe that's why…

        • Pretty sure 'shitter' is the industry accepted term for any 1.2 turbo in an suv.

      • Most traffic accelerates slower than the bus/truck next to them from the lights. Most modern dual cabs can’t out accelerate a 20 year old Corolla. 10-11 sec is fine for a small city car.

    • Thats hybrid electric hrv weight which is around 90kw with 1.5l na engine with electric motor.

    • 1392kg kerb weight. 82kw from a 1.2L turbo… is it just me or does this sound underpowered?

It's no rocket ship. Similar performance as a Yaris Cross Hybrid or an ASX 2.0 NA

      It's like 12 seconds to 100kph

The new ASX 1.3 turbo is a lot quicker (9 secs) but is $15k more just for the base spec.
Haval Jolion is also quicker and not a lot more.

  • GAC Emzoom $22,990 is a much better car. 125kW power compared to this extremely weak 82kW Mahindra and much larger. Emzoom is 420mm longer.

    • i feel like you are just betting on whatever is the least worst shit in this regard

    • I test drove an emzoom a couple of weeks back. It's a nice car to drive but the boot is tiny (341l).
I also drove an MG ZS vibe and it has a noticeably larger boot (443l) so it's my preference of the two. The specs for it say 81kW but it felt more powerful than that.
I'm interested in seeing the boot of this Mahindra, specs say 364l.
Horses for courses depending on your needs.

      • the Vibro 1.5 ZS is also $22,990

looks like a real horse race of nags ready for the glue factory

        petrol MGs are legendarily shit

      • At one point I was keen to look at the MG SUV's, ended up buying entry level Nissan Quasqai. So many safety features at entry level, and now I look back at many videos on youtube of MG buyers remorse here in Australia.
People reporting major drivetrain/clutch failures within warranty period and having a hard time getting their warranty service claim honoured.
        Happy I got a Nissan. :)

    • No it’s the opposite. GAC is much worse car.

      • in what way?

        the ADAS bing bongs?

        • That and better quality parts in the XUV3XO such as torque converter Aisin made gearbox rather than a cheap clunky DCT and the XUV3XO still gets better economy despite the torque converter box.

      • I'm guessing that as usual, your main pointless justification is just that the car is from China 😂

        • i'd probably agree with him… an Aisin six speed is probably better than a who flung dung DCT… but i mean you're comparing which piece of dog shit smells least bad

          • @tonyjzx: If both are dog shit and will last for the 7 year warranty period, might as well get the one that gives more value and car for the money. The transmission isn't the only thing inside the car.

            • @shxhshzhz: But the transmission is something you interact with every time you drive the car. It’s fundamental to the experience. It’s not like a slow infotainment that is occasionally irksome to use.

    • For those negging, feel free to share a better alternative at this price.

      • XUV3XO

        • there's already a few choices in the shitter brigade

          tiggo4
          gwm joilion
          mg vibe
          gac enzoom

all kinda like the last possible destination before hell

      • I'd be going something second hand from an established company over this

    • This Mahindra deal is also for 2025 stock only. 1 year old new car

    • what a stupid reason to neg vote

  • Is it indian made?
