China Southern has great prices on flights to Tokyo. By comparison, Qantas and ANA are around $1400 for direct flights (JAL is $1900).

        Before your trip:
        - Go to the China Southern website⁠
        - Look for Service → Transfer Accommodation / Transit Accommodation.
        - Enter your booking/PNR and passenger details.
        - Select the eligible Guangzhou connection.
        - Choose the available hotel and confirm the accommodation.

        @blehgg: you can also just walk up to the china southern desk at the airport and they will book a room for you and put you on a shuttle bus

        @blehgg: This process is quite easy, but please note that you're travelling solo, you'll need to be comfortable sharing rooms or pay extra 150/160 RMB/night to get room to yourself. Otherwise, if travelling as even number of passengers, you'll get your own room free, twin share. Just booked a transit hotel myself for next month.

      Just FYI, the room is shared by default, but you can upgrade to a private room for 150 CNY. Also, the bus runs every 30 minutes.
      
      One quick tip: the China Southern Airlines desk is near the KFC at Baiyun Airport. Took me a bit to find it on my recent trip.

      Typically if it's within 24 hours then the bags are tagged straight through and you don't need to pick them up again in Guangzhou during the transit

    He's referring to the politically driven cancellations which PRC airlines were told to implement recently due to comments made by PM Takaichi regarding Taiwan. This impacted some people who were flying from Aus > Jpn.
    
    Jetstar wouldn't cancel flights for those reasons lol

  Flights between major cities are less risky, especially flights to HND. If you are worried perhaps book flights to HND rather than NRT.

Was looking for Sydney flights late Nov / early Dec 2026 but the low prices seem to end 30 Nov. However, noticed China Eastern (Shanghai-based) does have cheap flights around that time, nice one competitor!
