  • Not that I’m buying one but can you stack the Costco executive membership 2% cash back with these?

    • Yes. That applies to all purchases including tech like iPhone.

    • Unless you were desperate for a new mobile and rich, why would you buy this phone st these prices?

      • People are rich

        • people take on debt to appear rich

          • @0jay: also think it fair to point it's not always just about flaunting (apparent) wealth

a lot of folks like to treat themselves and good quality, long lasting tech with well executed, well supported feature-sets are a way of doing that, even if you have to take on debt to do it

          • @0jay: I upgrade every year because the salary packaged cost of the phone equals the resell cost 1 year later, so upgrades are effectively free, and I've been doing this since the iPhone 11

I also work in the industry and like new tech

            • @yoogz: yeah i've little doubt i'd do this too if i was in a position to

i do think the cost of phones seems to be straining the limits of these arrangements though

i don't know if you would be able to cover a duo with this method but i guess if you can there's no reason to think it wouldn't retain it's value the same as any other iphone

            • @yoogz: Have they not Changed the rules for this?

      • Desperate to appear rich.

    • Yeah definitely going the iPhone duo this year the old pro series has lost its edge for me.

    • how do you get that %2 executive membership discount?

    • What does that even mean?

      • I think it means someone didnt go all the way in school

        • Haha. Yea fair enough. I wrote it very vaguely on purpose.

This week so many applications retailers have a discount code for TVs e.g
          TV500.
          Need same for phones.

      • Probably meant a $500 off discount code.
For the latest iPhone Pro / Pro Max, that's wishful thinking.

        • Yes. Was dreaming after buying a tv using 500 off code. a lot of retailers are doing that for tv

    • You need 500 phones for your business?

      • 500x iPhone 18 Pro Max from Costco is $2,224,500.
      • That's a saving of $100,000 if you had bought from Apple!
      • You're welcome, please PayID my commission as soon as possible!
      • Haha, so much saved

  • +1 for the write up

  • If they are shipping from the 18th, if you're late ordering does that mean they could ship much later?

  • Officeworks don’t price match pre orders!!!

    • You’d save more by just getting discounted GCs and buying the phone

      • What's the best place for discounted GC's ? Best I've found is 4% off through my NRMA membership.

        • Supermarkets routinely run 10% discount or points offers or Reward Gateway typically has 5% off Apple or JB

    • I know, I wrote you're welcome to attempt it upon release and that it's still not guaranteed to work. 😅

    • That’s ok Costco prices are to remain down throughout the year, so we can PM’it anytime.

  • Jeez… these prices are obscene… for these prices you could set up a kick ass home theatre AND buy a basic smartphone that does most everything an iPhone 18 can.

Who is supporting this ridiculousness? I mean they are only charging this coz apple fans are complicit.

    • Exactly. Samsung S26 Ultra is only $1299 or $1234 price beat. Much cheaper and does most of the same things.

      • Not commenting about whether iPhones are worth $2K, or whether the S26 Ultra can/can't do most of what the iPhone can, but it's always been amusing to see with every release Samsung matching RRPs with Apple (e.g. S26 Ultra 256GB at $2199), but make avenues available to bring it down by up to 1/3rd before the phone's even out.

        • Because people are dumb and base purchases on rrp.

      • Sa.sung are also trying to sell their phones at 2k. What jokes these companies are.

      • I own the s26 ultra and I wish I never bought it. Everytime I have a Samsung or pixel phones I hate them.
Apple definitely have a better user experience. And the phones usability is significantly smoother.
Samsung feels like software components are tacked on. Apple feels like the whole phone system is as one.

        • Totally the opposite here. I use an iPhone 17 for work and a Samsung personally. I would never use an iPhone if I had a choice.

        • Complete opposite, so many things I d miss if I move to iphone. If you ask me, what are the misses, then you havent really explored android enough.

    • Memory and storage costs aside, a lot of companies seem to be basically testing the waters right now to see what people are willing to pay considering inflation doesn't seem to be affecting a good chunk of the population, especially people with paid off mortgages or ones comfortable racking up debt.

      • Boomers buying $3k iphones?

        • Boomers buying $3k iphones?

My boomer parents had to reluctantly buy new iPhones because theirs were so grossly out of support and I don't want them getting a security exploit. They got the 14 series when the 16 came out I think.

Unless the boomers are tech savvy - most I know just want a phone to do the basic things - easy to use and take photos of thr grandkids and holidays

      • Porque no los dos?

        • Porque uno no es bastante:-)

    • Because it has gone beyond being a phone and has become a status symbol. People love to spend money on something that makes them feel like they're better or more wealthy than someone else. They can make these 10 grand and people will still buy them, Apple owners don't care about the tech or features, they just care that it's expensive (and therefore the best) and that it makes them feel good/better than others with cheaper devices.

      • People love to spend money on something that makes them feel like they're better or more wealthy than someone else

One of the primary reasons new releases have new colours each year. Wouldn't want anyone thinking you're poor and using an out of date phone :)

    • XPENG G9 does every thing a BMW ix5 does but you won't convince the people in market for a $150k car to save their cash by buying something that does the same job.

      • We are talking about 5k consumer Products…. I mean you could probably dust crops with a Boeing 737…

    • It kinda makes sense for us. I'm on android but my wife and two boys 4 years apart are apple. There is a line of hand-me-downs. So the the youngest is on 12 pro, older kid on 14 pro and my wife is on 16 pro. I'll buy the 18 pro and it goes down the chain. Each phone gets 6-7 years of use, which android phones struggle to achieve.

      • Your wrong. I am using my s10 which i bought in nov 2019 and also my note 10 + in 2020 is my 2nde phone.

I will use them another 3years. There is no need to upgrade really. Phones do the same as current phones. It's all marketting jargon.

        • Android system updates and security patches, both stopped for s10 in 2023.
Comparatively the iPhone released in 2019 can get the latest iOS26 releasing this year and has been/will get security patches.

      • Tell that to my 7 year old samsung galaxy s10+ that still probably has a higher screen resolution than the iphone 18 pro max

        • Not really understanding the down vote, galaxy s10+ = 3040x1440, 522ppi and the iphone 18 pro max is 2868x1320, 460 ppi

      • This, not everyone is upgrading their phone every year.

If you get 5+ years out of a $2k phone, I think it's a good investment for an item that you use every day.

    • Your idea of a kick ass theatre must wildly vary from me if you are talking about $1000 spare dollars, I’d like to see what that could get you (that is kick ass that is)

      • im talking about getting a basic smart phone, which can be had anywhere from $150, and spending the rest on something else that you use everyday.

3-4K gets you a decent amp/speaker setup that kicks the living sh*t out of the cast majority of peoples living room setups.

you could also wrangle a nice 55"+ OLED or 1080 projector into the mix if you are really on the bargain hunt.

treat the home theatre as a metaphor, and substitute it with any other of your hobbies and interests…

    • I hate to be that guy but "most everything" makes zero sense whatsoever. You're looking for *almost everything.

      • no worries friend - it's an abbreviation…sometimes I like to be "that guy" too…enjoy your evening!

    • Kick ass home theatre? You’d barely get quality speakers for that much

      • a decent amp under 1K + 2K for sub and speakers will get you a very decent 2.1 system for movies and music that will work in pretty much any room.

it will certainly kick the ass of your sound bar.

and if you hunt the used market, you can make even a modest 1-2K budget go very, very far.

        • Wow guys if you spend 3k on speakers it’s better than 1k!

          • @TheFreaK: are you typing this on a iphone 17?

            • @QuickToThePointless: Lol fail, did you just forget to change usernames before replying to yourself? Sad.

              • @bboT: yes - even the best of us mistakes - sorry that i made you spend the time to point out the obvious; at least you got a "LOL" out of it - thanks, regards & have a great night!

                  • @bboT: why indeed….obvioulsy i dont have 2 usernames, i accidentally hit reply to wrong comment.

Glad you are being thorough though; feel free to put this exhange on your CV to boost your credentials - you can even list me as a reference!

    • This is quite cheap really compared to what we used to pay for computers. The OLED display is good enough to watch a movie on, can watch 45 minutes of movie on a single charge, camera good enough to want to make nice prints of, more processing power than any other phone on the planet and most laptops. There is a lot to like and a lot of value.

      • really quite cheap compared to what we used to pay for computers?

now people are buying $5K phones and $5K PCs - and there is a lot of redundant functional overlap, obviously. i mean does anyone rationalise "i don't need PC any more - I just bought a $5K iphone; economically i am so far in front, suckers!"

lol @ watching a movie on your phone…and 45 mins no less? you don't work in sales, do you.

re: camera - billboard pixel quality prints sound great but standard photo frame size? phones maxxed out in practical terms to that end there several generations ago.

And you dont need enough processing power in your pocket to run a space station - people seem to forget that the primary function of these things is to send/receive SMS - emails/music/cameras/internet are a nice, convenient bonus - but all can be achieved with specs from over a decade ago.

      • I bought a 486 SX33 in 1993 that cost $2,200. That's $5,187 in todays money. I wouldn't pay that for a PC these days.

    • Most people probably use their phone a lot more than they would use a home theatre

      • yes - most people probably are doom scrolling phone zombies who use 'total hours spent' as the driving factor in their justification to spend a small fortune on the newest iThing

    • Only Apple can do

  • Officeworks don’t price match pre orders!!

    • Some people managed to price match today, it depends on the store and the staff. The OW terms don’t specifically exclude pre-orders however it does say the product needs to be instock so they could reject it saying the pre-order isn’t instock

      • If you find a cheaper price on an identical stocked item, Officeworks will beat it by 5%*. Read the Price Beat Guarantee terms and conditions 🙄

        • I understand, however some people have been lucky today and had OW do the price beat. Yes under the rules they can refuse it. Not all stores and not all staff have refused it. here

    • YMMV.

  • So 1tb extra storage costs $1200?? Wtf.

    • 758gb

      • Heh.

      • Why 758??

        • 256 + 758 = 1TB

          $1200 extra for 758gb

    • With everything going on with RAM that is actually not too bad

      • People genuinely believing this, is more depressing than the RAM shortage. Apple vision ended up being a dud because of the price, hopefully this follows or you'll be paying these prices even if ram supply improves.

      • With everything going on with RAM that is actually not too bad

I didn't neg you because that's what we've all been lead to believe by these companies. Yes it's ture, memory has skyrocketed but there is no way $1200 extra is a massive apple surcharge on top of what it would cost them to make

  • $4.5k for a phone?
Never thought we'd see this day.
What's next, phones costing as much as a car?

    • Cars can be bought for $4500 😂

    • You can buy a car for 4.5k!

      🚗

Looking at these prices I guess the cost of living and 12 interest rate rises doesn't effect everyone!

      • True. No one cares about cost of living. Purple are still willing to spend.
