  • 4.5kg for the 4L, and 5.2kg for the 5L.

Surely it costs a lot more than $12 to ship that, right? How are they not losing money?

    • All are OOS for delivery.

      • OP needs to update the description then…

        • I lied. Depends on your postcode. Kmart will be losing money on the shipping for sure.

          • @BestTechAdvisor: Oh you're right. Mine defaults to 2000 for some reason. That's not even in the same state as me haha.

Changed it to my postcode in regional QLD, and they're all available for delivery now.

          • @BestTechAdvisor: Worst stock advisor…
            - Comic Book Guy

            • @Lizard Spock: tbf the website is wigging out. I need to change the set store for the correct stock to show (you can do this in the menu at the top). But if I click "Check more stock nearby" then enter a nearby postcode I now know has stock (e.g. Tweed) it'll still show me "No nearby stores available." which is incorrect.

    • This time next week (21.09) Kmart will stop shipping clearance items for this very reason.

    • Clearance isn't about profit on the dumped stock.

  • I can't find stock anywhere in NSW or QLD in any of the colours.

Edit: Red available C&C at Marrickville and Bondi. Blue & Red available C&C at Nowra. Green & Red available on the NSW-QLD border.

    • I saw many of these instore at Kmart Toowong on Monday (dont know how that relates to whether they offer it for delivery)

  • 'Unavailable for delivery'. I still have not come across a single useful item I needed from KMart through OnePass. At least give me ONE to live upto your name OnePass…..

    • You must have subscribed to NonePass by mistake ahhaha… oh god I'm turning into jv…

      • Even Onepass will only work for another week. Kmart will stop shipping clearance items on the 21st Sept.

  • Only the navy showing available for online purchase. Bought one to test.

  • Bought one for frying stuff, thanks op!

  • Cheers needed to get a new cheapy for rendering tallow and deep frying fish.

  • Thanks OP. Hopefully these are ok to use for sourdough. I made this recently in a ceramic casserole dish, but I feel a cast iron one would be better.

    • I;ve been using my Kmart dutch oven for baking bread for several years now and find it to be excellent for the price.

  • Just purchased the 4L - looking good and definitely good value at $12. Will try for dinner later this week…

  • Grabbed a red 4l and a green 5l will see if it actually gets shipped or I get an email tomorrow telling me it’s being refunded because they couldn’t find any

    • They aren't that cheap. Half price basically.

      • yeah but i needed one and the free shipping made it worthwhile, i dont think its "cheap" its about what I think they should be charging for them

  • Question, why get a cast aluminium stockpot over a stainless steel stockpot?
    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/7.6l-stainless-steel-stock-…

    • Cast iron is denser so holds its heat better and can be moved from an oven to a stove or vice versa. Stainless steel is less dense thus heats up faster and is lighter to handle, but you wouldn't put it in the oven or expect it to retain heat for long.

      • Has anyone ever put a 10L stock pot in the oven? Not sure it would fit.

Also I was more asking the 10L cast aluminium vs stainless steel. No doubt the cast iron has different properties for slow cooking but I'm just talking stock pots here.

        • I have. Stock pot in the oven is a perfectly workable improvised slowcooker. Those super thin stock pots also develop hotspots & can burn food to the bottom instead of having the heat spread up the sides, putting it in the oven can prevent it.

        • I've got one of these 10L pots and It fits into my oven if i remove the racks save the bottom one.
I use it to boil pasta, steam rice, soups etc.
I've also used it in the oven for casserole/poaching purposes and it does the job well.
just be mindfull it's got a non-stick coating so don't used any metal implements and you're good.

    • The stockpot you linked is the thin one that tends to warp at the base after a while & cant be used on induction. I also find because they are so thin they will have hotspots on some cooktops.

The cast aluminium wont warp & can be used on induction because it has a thick enough steel insert. It will also retain/spread heat better due to the mass without relying on convection in the pot (cast iron is better for heat retention/spreading but cast aluminium is good enough & cheaper).

  • It's probably worth spending a bit more for a star-trek themed version:

    https://www.lecreuset.com.au/en_AU/c/collections/le-creuset-…

  • Not really sure of the benefits of cast aluminium over cast iron or S/S?

aluminium won't work on my induction cooktop anyway.

    • Weight saving?
I believe aluminium pots have a steel base. Description says it works on induction.

      • Oh you're right but I don't think it will work very well.

While a thin steel base will still heat up on induction, the more steel it has the better/faster it will transfer heat.

    • Cast iron is better but more expensive. Cast aluminium is good enough to avoid the issues with the super thin sheet steel stockpots while being lighter & costing less.

  • They're actually ceramic coated non stick? Aren't these hazardous?

    • For humans? No. Not hazadous. For food? Yeah, a bit.

Ceramic is fine. The issue with ceramic non-stick is that it's not very non-stick. Not as non-stick as other material. And it loses it's non-stickyness fast which results in food sticking and getting mangled.

If you're worried about PFAS or other toxic and/or forever chemicals, no issue here.

      • The dutch oven is ceramic the stock pot has a PFOA free non-stick coating, could still be and probably is PFAS.

"All the pans shown here from Tefal, Coles own brand, Woolworths own brand Mint, and Kmart's brand Anko are coated in PTFE. The labels boast "PFOA free", but because PTFE is still a PFAS, this does not guarantee zero risk. Especially once the coating is compromised or exposed to high heat." - https://www.biome.com.au/blogs/eco-home/are-non-stick-pans-s…

    • Save up and go high end.. Le Creuset, Staub etc

  • Order placed Thanks Original Post!

  • Ordered a couple. 5l and 10l.

    Thanks op.

  • Not a big cook.. But what would you cook with cast iron or aluminium weighing so much? I assume just for inside oven cooking?

  • Also cast aluminium non-stick roaster for $9

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/cast-aluminium-non-stick-ro…

    Two other colours available

  • I've had one of the enamelled casserole pots for years. It's great. Is it as good as something fancy with a french name?

    Definitely not.

Is it good enough for most things you'll have to do and still last pretty well?

    Definitely.

  • Got the 5l & 10l. Great buy, Thanks Op.
