Etihad Airways is Abu Dhabi's full-service airline, connecting Australia with Europe through its hub. It operates through bilateral airline partnerships rather than a global alliance; see our Etihad Airways airline guide for an overview.

Etihad's Economy service includes complimentary meals and snacks, plus on-demand entertainment. Check the baggage allowance and fare conditions on your selected booking, as the supplied fares do not specify a baggage allowance or fare family.

These Europe routings connect via Zayed International Airport, Abu Dhabi (AUH). Check the minimum connection time against your itinerary before booking, along with the operating airlines and any additional connections shown in the search results.

About the Destination and deal

All combinations fly into London, with 22 other cities available for the flight home. London itself has the British Museum, the Tower of London and walks along the South Bank; the official Visit London guide is a useful starting point.

The Deal

Melbourne from $1346 and Sydney from $1350, flying into London and home from Barcelona on Etihad Airways. The fares below cover selected dates from 1 October 2026 to 27 June 2027, with a different travel window for each route. All prices are in AUD and cover the outbound and homebound flights shown.

An open-jaw itinerary lets you arrive in one city and leave from another. You arrange and pay for travel between London and your departure city separately, whether by train, flight or another form of transport. That gives you room to build a multi-city trip without returning to London just to fly home.

There are 23 homebound city options from each Australian origin, including London itself. The London-in, London-out options are standard returns, included alongside the open-jaw combinations for comparison. Every fare row from the supplied search is listed below, with its original booking link. October-December dates are in 2026; January-June dates are in 2027.

  • Apparently no transit accommodation unless you have over 24 hours stay in Abu Dhabi.

  • This time planning to explore Pakistan, then India. Any deals?

  • can openjaw tickets be used to do something like Sydney - Hong Kong - London - Sydney?

    • A open jaw flight is just flying into your destination and out of another in the same area. E.g Flywing into London and out of Paris. Most fares have open jaws, just the taxes varies. The flight you are talking about is not an open jaw, that is a stop over. If you want to stop into Hong Kong on route, then fly someone like Cathay Pacific whose 'hub' city is Hong Kong. All airlines have hub cities (where the carrier is based). With airlines like Lufthansa who are in Germany you can take advantage of stopovers and open jaws combined when flying from Australia. For example a flight to London with Lufthansa you could do this: Sydney-Hong Kong (stopover) - Frankfurt (Hub) - London (now do an open jaw) Paris - Frankfurt - Singapore - Sydney. As the hub city is in Germany and they don't fly into Australia, they use code shares with other airlines to get you to a place where they fly into. Here you can leverage different asian cities, then pick up your lufthansa flight. You always need to go through the 'hub' with every airline which is why you pass through Frankfurt. Adding in any stopover will usually add in a little more tax. Some cheap fares might only ollow one stopover or charge additional fees.
Once again an open is when you fly into your destination city and out of another

      • ah got it, that makes sense. I didn't realise the 'same area' condition of the openjaw - thanks!

        • You can also join two fares together as well - its called a half/half fare. If you ever go onto a airlines website just select ' multi destination' instead of return

        • An open jaw has a gap where the ticket does not cover the travel i.e. you travel yourself (or with another ticket).

Technically it doesn't need to be the same area, but in practice due to where airlines operate and practicalities of travelling yourself, open jaws are in the same area. But the open jaw is about there being a gap in the travel covered, not which/where the stops are.

  • Awkwardly when I tested one through trip.com it showed no luggage allowance…

    • Sadly (for a "full service" carrier) Etihad now also offer "Economy Basic" fares which have 0 baggage included. Which is the discount/LCC carrier model.

With these Econ Basic fares, even if you have status, that status baggage allowance also DOES NOT apply.

      • That's fkn low

        • Yes they charge $37 per bag. I thought that was poor for a major international carrier.

      • No checked baggage.
That's OK if you travel light. 7kg is a bit too light, but some big pockets will fix that.
(But Jetsar now charges for carry-on - bugger them)

  • How to purchase ticket or find the price match the day you want to travel? I have no clue how to book with this website at all. Anyone can give me a tip?

    • I would go into flight centre and get them to look at dates for you, they can price match. Have done that before!

    • Skyscanner has a function to select flexible dates and then it gives you the month by month breakdown of prices. Then you select the month and it shows days the flights are cheapest. Then i just move the arrow on each date once selected to go back or forwards. Then book with airlines directly.

      • Yeah booking with Airline is the best if possible

      • Thanks but how do I add in departure from a different city in skyscanner to see if I can get an open jaw deal. Can’t work out how to use beat that flight link. Thanks

        • Either search one way flight separately on each leg or choose multi-city option from the top of search box

  • It has been reported to me that etihad has gone downhill recently. At least, their business offerings are somewhat shabbier than they should be.

    • For those of us lucky enough to travel business!

      • If we were so lucky, we would want it to be as good as we seem to have the impression in our heads.

  • Don't understand this website / links.

  • the china eastern open jaw to europe is still running. I have been monitoring it and haven't pulled the trigger. its a couple hundred cheaper and goes through china instead of UAE which is my personal preference for an extended stopover

    • especially atm
