Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Wall All In One Internet Gateway $749 (Was $1889) + Delivery ($0 to Metro Areas/ C&C/ in-Store) @ Scorptec

480

The ugly duckling a.k.a the Ubiquiti Unifi Dream Wall (horror dreams I guess) is back on sale, with a new All-time-Low price and free shipping.

Surcharges: 0% card, Afterpay & ZipMoney, 1% PayPal, Google Pay payments.

Yes I get this is not a product that fits everyone's design and aesthetics standards, but for this price I think i would give it a fair go - it has all the bells and whistles just needs a nice location for install where it would not stand out.

Note: One buyer has reported that their box has been unsealed for the purpose of having an Australian power cord being included with the product.

  • That seems very cool, would be interesting if it didn't come with WiFi. Very neat solution though!

Should have been called W-ALL in one

    • It’s actually a good way to cover areas like the garage, which I imagine is a pretty typical place for this to be installed. That’s one less AP to worry about, so why not?

And if you don’t like having Wi-Fi enabled, you can always disable it.

      • I was thinking more of cost savings, but also putting a wifi ap in the garage is crazy easy if you already have the port available hey

        • You do realize that cars connecting to the internet via WiFi is actually pretty common nowadays, right? You called it Wall in One so why not?

          • @OzComment: Yes my car uses wifi, my UAP LR covers two stories and my garage as an example. All I am suggesting is a cheaper version perhaps without a WAP and without a second psu for basic home users.

      • My garage can hit 40+ in summer. Not sure it would cope to be honest. I don’t need it at all but I do still like it.

    • All in all, it's just another wifi in the wall

    • Wall-e(thernet)

  • If you're building a new home then this would be amazing. Great product but retrofitting it anywhere is going to take some decent cabling work.

    • If you are building a new home you would do the sane thing and put Wifi in the ceiling and a central switch/patch panel making this a kinda weak solution with not enough ports and wifi you probably don't need.

      • I would assume anyone installing this is putting in other APs as well and not relying on just a single built in one. If you need more ports then just get another switch, as you would with any all in one router/switch/AP.

This device should be compared against something like the UDM-SE and at $749, this seems like very solid value.

      • How many installation have you done?

        • just finished doing my new build (my 3rd house I have had cabled). Learn quickly from past mistakes (like don't put the patch panel in the garage), hoping the 3rd time is a charm as this time I have a proper patch panel and 12 RU rack, 24 port unfi switch and a 16 port poe switch, 3 ceiling mounted POE AP's and one external.

          • @gromit: And every new house has ceiling access points rather than in-wall APs that look nicer and also give additional hw ports?

            • @vovka: in wall access points are more prone to interference but are great for individual rooms. I have hardwired ports in every room already.

          • @gromit: Where is your patch panel and rack located now?

            • @Omuse: in rack in a ventilated storage room. Garage sounds like a brilliant idea, right up until you get a hot summer. not to mention the dust that gets in there.

    • I have this in my home (new build) and it's tucked away nicely in a comms cabinet. It handles everything at home including APs, CCTV, intercom and smart home system. Hasn't missed a beat, very happy with it.

  • Could you just put this on the desk? Seems like a decent value machine after discount.

    • It's a fairly large unit and it's designed to be mounted on a vertical surface. You'd need a pretty big desk….

      • Drill it into the side of the desk lol

        • Haha I was half thinking of writing that in my reply above….

This thing is a real unit. I have one sitting here which I think I got at least a year ago. It will take a lot of work to install.

  • At this price shouldn't it have more 2.5Gb ports?

    • Agree, only limiting factor for this unit here I guess

    • It's Ubiquiti.

It will always be missing the one or two things that you need to make it ideal.

Or the one thing, like an SD Card for recording that makes it just that little bit dodgy.

Or not quite being able to disable an integrated AP and being forced to just leave it unconfigured with the radios on etc etc.

Or 3 ports of 1 type and 4 of another and another 5 of something else on the switch.

I exaggerate but you get the drift.

Or having to use a single power cable for multiple internal power supplies. Defeating redundancy purpose etc.

      • Should have come with an HDD slot, rather than redundant p/s.

  • Ugh, slightly annoyed this came just now. I put down $650 on an omada setup (gateway + 2 APs), but this would have been perfect for the garage instead $100 more…

    • Probably should have waited for Omada Fusion WiFi 7. It's got better specifications. Not sure about the price though.

    • Luckily I haven't bought my omada APs.

  • What if I build up my home server?

  • its rather old now

    • Agreed without the AI term/feature.

  • So this thing is just a wifi switch?

  • If future expandability isn’t a big priority and you’re not planning to build out a rack at home, the UDW at A$749 is an absolute bargain. Compared with the popular UDM-SE, it has a much bigger PoE budget—420W versus 180W—and four PoE++ ports for power-hungry devices such as high performance cameras. Getting that capability with a UDM-SE would require additional PoE++ hardware, potentially adding hundreds of dollars to the setup.
It also has built-in Wi-Fi, so if you mount it in the garage, it can work as your garage AP and save you buying a separate one. There are also more than enough PoE ports for most households. For a typical home or small office that doesn’t need a complicated network setup or multi-gigabit connections throughout, a single UDW could comfortably handle the core networking and PoE requirements. At this price, that’s seriously good value.

    • It supports these WiFi standards:
      — 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax

      There is no WiFi 7,
      ie. 802.11be

      • The reason why it's on 1/2 price?

      • First, whether the Dream Wall has Wi-Fi 7 is beside the point. Its built-in Wi-Fi is just a secondary access point anyway, and nothing stops you from adding a Wi-Fi 7 AP. Second, what practical difference would Wi-Fi 7 make here? Anything that actually needs high speeds should be wired directly over 2.5GbE or 10GbE. For mobile devices, how much difference would 40Gbps versus 10Gbps really make? Are you transferring tens of gigabytes from your iPhone to your computer every day?

    • It's 4 years old at this point. Could do with a refresh tbh

      2.5gbps lan would be nice

    • It does support 10gb, just had to add that here. So potentially you run a 2.5gb internet connection then 10gb to a 10gb wireless access point for max current wireless capacity. keep the internal radios on for IOT devices. done.

      • If you need 10GbE RJ45 ports, you should connect the UDW/UDM to a L3 switch via SFP+ and let the switch handle the local traffic. The only model in this lineup with built-in 10GbE RJ45 ports is the UDM Beast, which costs nearly A$3,000. Realistically, once you need 10GbE wire connections, your wired devices should be exchanging local traffic through the switch anyway, rather than sending it all through the router.

  • Will the price drop further?

    • I’ve seen them for as low as $300 on FBMP

      • That's decent. Unlucky I see none near me.

        • yeah i just lost out on 2x brand new wd black 2tb drives for $200 like 2 weeks ago because i was too lazy to collect them same day

  • Cool if nbn funded it maybe? I don’t get it otherwise?

Good brand, cool specs, but outdated, cool form factor. Did I miss something?

  • A 512gb microSD card is included, that's worth ~$250 to $350 right now… what wild times.

  • ive got one, got it from them last sale. awesome device. just wish it had a HDD slot instead of the useless secondary PSU slot. who the fk though that was a good idea?

    • Can you attach a USB drive?

  • Got mine with an opened seal. Should it be brand new? And should I keep as long as it works well and because of the discount price? Or I expect a partial refund? I can ask for a replacement if that's the case.

    Anyone else?

    • Update: Just got a reply saying the supplier opens the unit to replace the supplied power cord with the correct Australian version.

So, it means that it's not AU version. Scoptec needs to state this clearly as well as the opened seal.

      • Thanks for the update, received mine today with the same and sent a message to their team before checking here. Seal was broken and replaced with a transparent circle sticker to hold the box/lid in place.

This is reassuring but also a bit annoying. Should have kept the original cable and sent it unopened with an Australian cable with it instead.

        • Likewise.
Reassured but also a touch annoyed! Manufactured in 2023 as well which probably explains the heavy discount!
