Can I Switch Gas Again While Waiting for The 45 Days on My TopCashback Econnex Switch?

Hi all,

I switched my gas through Econnex on TopCashback at the end of August. The terms say I need to stay active for 45 days to get the cashback.

Now I want to switch electricity and gas again through Shopback Energy Comparison (I missed TopCashback deal yesterday). From what I understand, gas doesn't change straight away and only moves at the next meter read or billing cycle.

So my questions are:
1. If I ask for a gas switch now, but the transfer only happens after day 45, will my first cashback still be safe?
2. Does a pending switch count as "leaving" early, or only when the transfer actually happens?
3. Has anyone done a second Econnex switch this close to the first one and still got both cashbacks?

Any experience would help. Thanks!

  • Sounds like the start of next week's ADACBHS?

  • In my opinion you would be fine. As you say gas does not switch straight away like Electricity or Internet. Gas seems like it only switches after the quarterly gas read is completed.

    • I could be wrong but isn’t there the option to put your preferred connection date and therefore you could still sign up, get your cashback and transfer to new provider at a later date?

      • I don't think so. Gas is usually only read quarterly and there is no provision to do it on a set date… it's read when it's due and no other time. You are most likely thinking of electricity or internet switches.

  • We are talking about prominent cash back schemes; try to find out and let us know.

  • So you could switch gas everyday for a new cashback then?

  • If you aren't even connected by day 45, do you think that counts as "active for 45 days" or active for 0 days?

  • Switch after you withdraw the cashback. No need to rush into deals, they are pretty frequent when it comes to this sort of stuff.

  • What could go wrong?

  • Service needs to be active for 45 days. Don't rely on standard reads for cutovers. Some providers do manual gas reads, out of standard reads which could mess up your numbers.

  • Thanks all for the comments.

Decided to pull the trigger and hope for the best. The new cashback was tracked and as always, gas isnt switched immediately like electricity.

The electricity has moved to new provider and gas still pending, means I am still with the old provider.

Ill update again once there is confirmation on both cashbacks. Hopefully a positive result :D

    • But chances are you are still with your original provider since you said you never got notification of cutover from your previous signups. So your essentially skipping the last gas sign up and you will possibly end up on this new sign up. It's clear as day in the terms. 45 days from connection, not signup.

  • will my first cashback still be safe?

    LOL…cashback…safe…good one!

  • If you haven't had confirmation of the original gas cutover happening then your 45 days hasn't even begun. Feel free to sign up again to another but can guarantee your unlikely to get your gas cash back as you won't have satisfied the original 45 days. The new sign up with probably mess up the previous one. Plus how will you been keep track. Don't be so eager to chop and change. Try and keep your electricity and gas signups in sync otherwise you will mess it up and rob yourself of cashback

    • Not sure why someone negged me. It's in the t&C's. Switching gas can be tricky as you never quite know when your ready and hence cut over will happen. If your lucky enough to sign up a few weeks before a read you may get lucky and hit that sweet spot. Chances are also lovely you will miss it and you have to serve another 2 months with the old provider and then your completely out of whack. Anyway best of luck to OP. Doubt it will work out and I'm sure they will come back here complaining about it.

  • FYI..I switched Gas to Alinta on 16 August 2026 but still has not been switched up to 25 September 2026.
