  • No thanks, I'm too busy enjoying my tin can $19,990 Atto 1

    • Yeah I wouldn't say a car for $52990 is a bargin.

      • That very much depends on the car.

      • Bargain doesnt mean cheap.

It means a price lower than what the item might be otherwise worth.

A car that has sold for $66,000 for ageas being had for $52,000? That's a bargain.

A crappy product with a low RRP, sold at RRP? Not a bargain.

eg Dynaudio Evoke 20 speakers RRP $3699. Get them for $2100, that's a bargain. Electrohome Huntley speakers RRP $60, get them for $60, not a bargain, despite $60 being less than $2100.

        • I've been glancing at this model on and off. When was it ever 66k? honest question.

From my digging around the launch price was 49,990 + ORC for the GT.
When i had looked at it again last week I distinctly remember it being about 54.4k for the GT, drive away; which would match the launch price (without considering the free upgrade to the atenza)

52,990 would be about a 1.5k discount is about 3% off. Better than nothing if you're already on the fence but not exactly jaw dropping. The free upgrade was more valuable in dollar terms.

      • A car for $52,990 could be a bargain, it also could be a huge ripoff. Prise does not dictate whether something is a bargain, value does.

    • Is the Atto 1 that bad?

      • You get what you pay for.

        • But twice as much as you pay for if you step up to Atto 2 or Dolphin just above the Atto 1 pricewise.

        • "G-O-G-G-O…No, not the Dart!"

      • Basic feel good vehicle

      • I saw one driving around. So so tiny, can't wait to get crushed in it

        • Are they not only 40cm shorter than the old Mazda 3s around the 2005 - 2008 era? I wouldn't consider that tiny however I haven't seen one in person yet.

    • There's no way it is worse than a MG3.

      • Swear I could've outran the one I got from a rental company earlier this year

    • How do you find the Atto 1 experience??

    • a Camry with vinyl seats is 60k

      • It's a Mazda, not a Toyota, and this is definitely not Mazda at its best.

It's an outsourced, badge-engineered vehicles which Mazda needs, because they have almost zero EV expertise.

        • Actually they had mx30 back in 2021 but it was a total flop

Now the Mazda EV is 50% Mazda 50% Changan

          • @Poor Ass: More like 80% Changan, 20% Mazda.

            • @billy_bob: I got

              Mazda Motor Corporation: 47.5%
Chongqing Changan Automobile (Changan Auto): 47.5%
China FAW Corporation (FAW Group): 5.0%

              • @Poor Ass: I think it's more 80% Changan engineering, not the ownership structure.

                • @heef: they could even of said 99% then if they are making up numbers

    • 2015kg 7.6s 0-100, bit faster and lighter than a tank

      • Who are these hoons complaining about 0-100 in 7.6s? This is as fast as Golf GTIs from 2010s.

        • Golf R is the hoons choice at every red light

        • Maybe 1990s-2000s GTIs
2010s GTIs are 6.2-6.4 seconds even for the manual.
          My MK7 Clubsport is 5.8 I believe.

          • @PapaWill: Ah… Just as quick as the Camry.

            • @SetTheFaqUp: I daily a Camry Hybrid as a work vehicle
              Camry is a boat

              • @PapaWill: I think you'll find it's spelt G_O_A_T

          • @PapaWill: 2008 GTI manual had 7.2s, but auto was faster at 6.9s, and that was until 2012. It got faster from 2013 onwards.

          • @PapaWill: Nope, my 2010 MkVI GTI was 6.9s with the DSG. Manual would be 7+s. 155kw with 280Nm only.

            • @MkVIGTI: Chill… The MK6 GTI is gonna do 0-100 quicker than 7.6

          • @PapaWill: Nice, I would prefer the Clubsport! Worth noting though the EV has the high constant torque at any speed, so vey different experiences. Mazda is a boat compared to many EVs as reference points.

            • @UltimateAI: I've got a tuned 2016 40th Edition / Clubsport, it's getting a beat up now the kids are growing up and getting in and out of the back. I was looking at the Mazda 6e to replace it as they have a less EV-forward styling, but the driving dynamics would be hard to get used to.

          • @PapaWill: Thats as a fast as the slow model BYD Seal in ecomode

      • The old 2.5 tubro Mazda6 do 7.1s to 0-100.
        2.5NA is around 8s.

        Not that bad.

        • Yeah I've got a 2.5l turbo Mazda 6 GT SP. It's plenty fast enough and great to drive.
While I think the Mazda 6e GT shouldn't feel slow in practice, it should actually be faster than the previous generation.
If it was <6 sec 0-100 and 650km+ range I'd definitely consider one, but the Zeekr 7GT edges it out. Wouldn't buy either just yet, but a good sign of things to come.

    • 190kW for a medium sized family sedan is reasonably sprightly

      • Too many keyboard warriors looking at numbers.

EV torque and pedal response is unmatched.

        • As a 'shitbox' Ora 3 owner, I couldnt agree with you more.

The instant torque available anytime always makes it feel quicker than what the specs tell you.

        • 100%

I have an ATTO 3 which doesn't make any pretenses about being a performance vehicle. It's still much sharper and more responsive than any 'normal' (non performance) ICE car.

          • @aelix:

It's still much sharper and more responsive than any 'normal' (non performance) ICE car.

It also bounce 3 times after a speed bump.

      • yes but it depends on weight. Not many normal 'family' sedans are more than 2000kg.

    • I agree it is a bit crap, only recommended if you specifically want Mazda for some obscure reason (when in fact it is Deepal)… Mazda has never been competitive on tech in modern EVs, but at least they are lowering the price to compete on value.

    • No OTA is a feature for a lot of people

      • Not a feature as a feature

  • LOL, no thanks, ill buy the chinese brand equivalent

    • Bro this is Chinese….

      • But it's not a Chinese brand bro

        • Same as tesla. Why buy American or Japanese branded Chinese car when you can just buy a proper Chinese car.

          • @bumluffa: All Chinese cars are just tesla knock offs. True, Tesla has one of its three factories in China, but it is not like they are just slapping a tesla badge on an existing platform like Mazda has here.

          • @bumluffa: Because they actually stand behind their products and have proper QC and don't lie about stats and have better customer service and have a brand name to uphold. Most Chinese companies over promise, under deliver and cuts corners.
Each to their own, I've learnt my lesson after buying 2x MG Z's suvs. Many problems, had to wait months for parts and the transmission felt like it was out of a 1980s Hyundai excel. Fool me once…. That's enough for me.

            • @Tamagotchi Breeder: Why did you buy 2 if they were so bad? Or did you buy them both at the same time, not one after the other?

            • @Tamagotchi Breeder: Your MG experience is fair, but holding Tesla up as the example of honesty is a weird choice.

Tesla is facing an Australian class action over alleged phantom braking, overstated range claims and self-driving marketing. They've also faced regulatory scrutiny and lawsuits globally over Autopilot/FSD claims.

One bad MG doesn't mean all Chinese EVs are junk, just like Tesla's legal issues don't mean all Teslas are junk.

Judge the Mazda 6e on the car itself, not on a bad experience with a completely different brand.

            • @Tamagotchi Breeder: Oh yeah. I test drove a MG ZS 2026 and it drove like absolute SH$%. Even my offspring test drove one and then drove a Honda HRV 2020 and could instantly tell which one is better! MG was cheaper also compared to the Honda!!

            • @Tamagotchi Breeder: Could have sworn you were talking about Tesla in the first part of your comment

      • it's not Chinese price…

  • Byd seal premium all day surely..

    • Well I considered both. This is a fastback vs seal that's a sedan. Plus byd seal interior is quite dated now.

      • I don't think it looks dated. It just doesn't look like it came off a standard China-made EV interior template.

      • The BYD is more driver friendly, has an actual wiper stalk while Mazda is auto with controls behind the screen, plus actual buttons throughout the cabin. If you're ok with everything being behind the screen then the Mazda is good but only if you're shorter than 6 feet.

The Mazda felt smaller even though the car is larger than the Seal, the headroom was also a worry with my head borderline touching the liner. The seat also can't be adjusted low enough to compensate for that so the seating position is unusually high for a sedan. Suspension felt very floaty as well which was one of the criticisms of the Changan that this is based on.

I really wanted the Mazda as it is gorgeous in and out but the BYD ticked a lot more boxes.

        • Yes I'm shorter than 6 feet :)

I did look at BYD Seal. Good tech, feel great to drive. But I just don't like the design.

Tried Mazda. Felt much more premium, still feel that it is big. Love the suspension too. Maybe it's because of my age.

At the end of the day it is also down to preference I guess.

    • Good call, but ~$6K more.

      • No it isn't

        • Currently $57k driveaway according to the BYD website

          • @discountguy: Not the premium…..

            • @cumova: ummm yes it is ….. "$57,250.39 Drive Away Price" is the literal figure of the BYD website just now for NSW - Seal Premium

          • @discountguy: My point was it's not 6k more. Also we're splitting hairs a bit. If you're shopping for a 53k car you should be cross shopping with a 57k car.

      • Got the Seal Premium for $52.4k driveaway with a $1k cashback on top of that last week.

    • Surely not and please don’t call me Shirley.

  • Deepal with a Mazda badge
    Zoom zoom

    • 50% anyway

      • Just one zoom thanks

  • Does it come with a CD player?

    • record player is an extra $499

  • Almost as good as bz4x :)

  • Japanese outside Chinese inside?

    • I believe it is the same platform as the Denza.
How good or bad of platform that is? 🤷‍♂️

      • Deepal not Denza. Deepal is from Changan and Denza is from BYD so completely different brands.

        • Yup you're right, I stand corrected. Confused Denza with Deepal, the Mazda shares platform with Deepal SL03.

      • Denza is Premium BYD - Similar to Lexus which is Premium Toyota

      • Misinformation alert 🚨

  • wish more ev cars have around min 500+ range under 50k mark. maybe in couple more years

  • Feels like the days of coachbuilders are coming back.

  • Wagon?

    • Would have to wait for the Zeekr 7GT at this point for a full EV, otherwise that BYD PHEV Seal wagon.

    • Ahh yes the fake wagon buyers have arrived!

    • in 2026?

  • The SL7 can be had for $55k D/A.

Why would anyone pick this over that? Genuine question.

    • Brand snobbery
