Business Class on Hainan Airlines to Madrid, Spain: Melbourne from $3974, Sydney from $6438 Return - Oct 2026 to Mar 2027 @ BTF

470

These fares are with Hainan Airlines in Business Class, departing from Melbourne and Sydney. Hainan is one of the few carriers to hold a Skytrax 5-Star Airline rating, and it was ranked 10th in the world in the 2025 Skytrax World's Top 10 Airlines. Full details of the airline and its network are in our Hainan Airlines airline guide.

Hainan is not part of a global airline alliance, instead operating its own network with selected codeshares across the broader HNA Group. As a full-service carrier, the Business Class fare includes checked baggage, meals and inflight entertainment.

These flights transit in Haikou, China (HAK) rather than routing through the Middle East. For an overview of the airport and its connection times, see Haikou Meilan International Airport on MinimumConnectionTime.com. Connection requirements vary by itinerary, so check the minimum connection time against your booking before you travel.

About the Destination

Madrid is Spain's capital and its cultural heavyweight, with the Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums lined up along the Paseo del Arte and the Royal Palace a short walk from the centre. Retiro Park and the Paseo del Prado are jointly listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the tapas bars of La Latina and the late-night energy around Plaza Mayor and Gran Vía run well past midnight. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable times to visit, as Madrid summers are genuinely hot, and Toledo and Segovia are both easy half-day trips by high-speed rail. See the official Madrid tourism site for attractions and planning tips.

  • At those price differences, surely Sydney people are just catching a flight from syd->mel first :)

    • If I'm going to be flying business class out of Melbourne, might as well treat myself to Jetstar Starter Plus to Melbourne. Really spoil myself.

      • Tbf the contrast would make business class feel evenn nicer

    • I think most people are flying out of Melbourne so it's an economy of scale. Flying in would need a flat jacket which adds to the cost.

      • Flying in would need a flat jacket

I'm sure business class has space for a puffy jacket also.

  • Huh, why is Sydney so much more?? Also, never heard of this airline before.

  • Sydney lowest price is 62% more than Melbourne's.

    • Are we still talking about airfares?

      • Housing wise

        • Thanks for spelling out the joke for the thickies. This is a top service you're providing.

  • Is it discrimination toward Sydney? $2k5 difference in price jesus!!!

    • Because melbourians are poor.

    • Usually it's the opposite, Sydney is almost always cheaper than Melbourne for Business Class flights. The extra runway usually allows for more competition.

  • Theoretically the Australia - China sector can be credited to Velocity if you’re in the points game, but you’re probably better off crediting the whole thing to Alaska (or Etihad)

  • To me minimum price showing $6291 Melbourne

    • Dont pick christmas date.

You cannot pick the peak days then asking for less than 3k to EU return? stup

      • I tried the dates shown above. Diff pricing

  • Some loooong layovers in various Chinese airports is the trade-off…

  • Be aware that Skytrax is a garbage pay-for-place ranking. Do your own research and decide if this is a good airline or not.

    • Username checks out.

  • Its gotta be cheaper from Melbourne. Its like Youtube Premium is cheaper in some countries than others /s

  • Does it come with some generous Spanish hospitality?

  • I flew Hainan Business class in October 2025. it was utter shit. zero service.
They just turned off the lights and pulled out curtains, "you sleep now".

Also, jetfuel shortages are already appearing, make sure to have travel insurance that covers flight cancellations if you have booked accommodation.

My $$ is on flights being severely limited.

  • If you don't mind roughing it to Singapore, you can get SIN > MAD > SIN Business on Etihad for around $3,700 next year

    • It's a good option, I've just booked Etihad BKK-LHR and BCN-BKK in early May for a tad over $2700 Business. Even cheaper if you don't want lounge access or other goodies. There's a 7 hr layover in AUH so I took the extras but a 1.5 hr layover coming back, wasn't worth paying extra for lounge.

If you're same city return, you can stay over 2 nights in Abu Dhabi for free with a small stopover fee.

As it was such a good saving, I booked Singapore Airlines Economy for the MEL-BKK leg.
