[NSW, VIC] $200 Credit for Gas and $200 Credit for Electricty on First Bill + Free 1 Year My NRMA Membership @ Engie

701

$200 credit for electricty
$200 credit for gas

Edit: other users have reported stacking with TCB/shopback/econnex/referral code. YMMV

$400 total credit to your account if you have not signed up to Engie in the last 12 months.

Credit applied to first bill. (SA excl)
Others have reported this credit still applies if you churn away before first bill is issued (technically that would still be your first bill but YMMV)

Credit not redeemable for cash. Remaining credit expires if you churn away. Others have reported transferring credit across fuels when you close one gas/elec account.

Free 1 year NRMA membership (if you are not already a member). Membership starts 4 weeks after supply switched to Engie.

Offer not available in WA or NT. Electricity only in QLD. Credit applied after 90 days (not first bill) in SA

Rates are trash of course - churn away as soon as the credit is used up.

ENGIE (Previously Simply Energy) Referrals

Referral: random (24)

Referrer and referee each get $75 in bill credits.

  • Are there any waiting periods if you used them recently and got the $200 credit?

    • 12 months I believe

      • Hi mate, just wondering if the 12 months starts from when you last joined them or when you left them?

        • I wouldn't know. But I would presume from when you left cos they wouldn't consider you new if you had left on the 11th month.

    • Can gat it on partners name?
If I have claimed it this year already?

      • Yes, This is the way….

        • Even if its the same address? Just under partners name can work?

        • Do youbhave to do a disconnection or something?

          • @Mortin: Technically yes - it is dosconnected and reconnected into the new persons name. However if you have a smart meter there is usually no interruption at all. This is because a non-smart meter someone has to do the final reading but if you have a smart meter the usage details are automatically transferred.

  • I haven't used Engie before. If the electricity provider bills quarterly, but I use up my credit in the first month, can i churn away and pay almost $0 or will churning away before the first bill is issued void the $200 credit?

    • You can and I did just that

      • Really?
Always thought you had to get the first bill to get the $200 credit else if your churn out then you wouldnot be eligible

        • You would be issued your bill when you churn away which technically is your first bill. I don't see any T+Cs which say otherwise so it makes sense to me that you still receive the credit like the user above said but YMMV

        • I got my first bill after 1 month. And the whole $200 credit was applied. I churned out a few weeks into the second month.

          • @CVonC: If you can ask for monthly bill that’s ok

            • @prankster: I didn't ask. I guess it's by default.

  • Stack with TCB to get $150/$120 or $370 for both Electricity and Gas.

    • Thanks :)

Can I stack the Engie referral too?

      • No, better use tcb

    • I am only been offered $150 with Engie using TCB
Actually only $150 on Engie website as well.
Maybe because they don't offer Gas in SE QLD?

      • Looks like you are correct - electricity only in QLD (SE at least). Updated deal

    • Did it expire? I can only see econex with $150 /$120.

      Edit: Shopback has $130/$120.

      • Thanks for mentioning that. I've just signed up to churn from Powershop via the SB app.

I don't use SB often so hopefully will track so I'll get the Engie credit and the SB cashback.

  • can you leave after 1-2 months?

    • Yes

  • Good support. I transferred my remaining gas credits to electricity before leaving

  • I'm at the bare minimum daily supply charge with OVO with the 3 hours free. I don't think this is worth the hassle for me.
Too much admin work for $200 pure electric household.

    • What’s your supply charge?

    • same with OVO wondering if it's wortjh it

  • It seems to stack with the referral code. On the last sign up page it says both $75 credit and $400 so don't think there's any ambiguity (though screencapped).

  • What is export fit?

    • FIT = Feed-In Tariff (for solar)

      • Um what do they pay.

  • They have the worst rates in SA, specially for gas.. their usage charges are about 50% higher that other retailers even after the discount.. esnure to compare rates before switching as the $200 may not be worth the trouble.

    • Exactly. The rates are very in SA compare to what I am paying now with AGL.

  • Watch out for the rates, even if you're intending to churn later. I signed up on a bill credit deal a few months ago, and my rates were jacked up massively two weeks after sign-up. I checked online not long after and the rates were about 10 per cent higher than what was available for new sign-ups (inclusive of NRMA membership). Had to call and get them to switch me to a new plan.

    • I agree, people often just pay their bills, and the companie use the "new plans" tactic. They increased mine every second or third month.

  • Cant see their ususage rates

  • For some reason I always get denied for my application with Engie even though I don't have any other issues for mobile/utility plans or credit cards.

    • I have the exact same issue. Tired about 3-4 times in the past year and always getting denied due to not meeting credit checks. I have never defaulted or made any late payments in the last 12 years for utilities, cards etc. Seems their credit check criteria is screwed up for some reason.

  • WA not eligible

    • Or NT. Added to description

  • Does it impact the credit score? As I will just keep it for a month or 2 before churning again. So 2 switches in <3 months

  • What’s the difference between this and Econnex deal posted few days ago? You get $100 gas credit card too

    • With Econnex, in the past I've combined $200 engie credit as well as $150 something credit card for electricity from them. Not sure if they still have the same thing available for gas right now.

  • Beware NRMA. You can't cancel online. The only way is to call. After two 40 minute calls that dropped out without being answered, I found their legal email address and told them they needed to cancel or they could expect a chargeback. 4 weeks later they responded with an "okay".

  • Showing $125 sign up bonus for me. Not $200

    1. Offer is not available to all states.

    2. Need to stay with them for 90days to get this credit(s).

    3. nightmare company to deal with to get your credits

dealing with them using ombudsman currently, have never had a worse company before who did not want to settle out matters before unlike this one who want to drag matters each time

and makes your credit be worth $0 after account closing. (aka you cannot even come back to your account and use remaining credits you didnt use).

    • But it says credit applied on first bill?

      1. Offer available in all states except WA and NT

      2. Credit applies to your first bill

      3. T+C clearly state credit is applied to first bill. YMMV but others above seem to have not had issues

      4. RE the credit expiration at account closure - that's reasonably standard and expected

Not defending the company but this seems to be a standard energy credit deal. The main benefit is that the credit applies at first bill rather than 90 days or some random gift card that may or may not show up in the mail.

      • Add SA to the non available state to.

Mostly likely it's a nsw or nsw with vic only offer

        • SA is available but the deal terms are different - I can see now it's a connect and stay 90 days offer as you said - my bad.

Looks like the first bill terms is eastern states states only

          • @User-name: Yeah i am not saying that deal is bad either, just that its only available for certain states,

If you stay in those states then its a good deal, but its a nightmare honestly having to figure out remaining credit till date (especially with gas) and Incase you accidentally move out early then credit becomes $0, even if you call their cs its not much helpful in telling remaining credit also so you can make informed decision of moving out.

In past whenever i had any issue with AGL their ombudsman relation team would automatically sort all issues even incase of AGL mistakes,

Engie won't fix any mistakes by them tho. (Say they email you saying you have $X credit, but they only say you have $X- $Y credit only, other one will say its actually $0 because account is closed). Their team will keep saying it was that department fault, i need to talk to them (for weeks). My concern is just that they are hopeless in case something goes wrong.

  • Shows $175 electricity, $200 gas (VIC)

    • Engie rates comparing to my current provider at the same address:
      * Electricity +25%
      * Gas +32% (summer), +60% (winter)

      • tbh if you're staying with this provider until winter you're doing it wrong (imo). I keep an eye on my usage and proactively churn to the next provider when the credit is running out.

It's a bit of a hassle and if you don't stay on top of it then it's probably best to just find the best rates on the government comparison website and stick with that.

        • proactively churn

Due to meter reading frequency it's almost impossible with gas though.

          • @idm: Tell them you’re moving in and they will send someone to read the meter.

            • @ElectricMallet: Any possible negative impacts to that small untruth?

              • @caperite: You might be charged a small fee for the “special” meter read, around $18 in NSW.

  • I was with simply energy/engie for years and recently changed to ovo and immediately slashed my bills by roughly 40%. I have now gone all electric and installed solar and a battery now only paying the grid connection fee. I would recommend shopping around before signing up to engie even with this deal.

    • It's only worth it if you're constantly churning to new providers when your credit runs out. They're hoping you stay and they definitely make their money back off you if you do.

For anyone else it's better to just find the best rates and check every 6-12 months.

I've paid almost zero in utilities for a couple of years now - the cost is has been my time. Helps with the cost of living though

      • How many people in your house? Do you have solar?

  • What even are the benefits of a NRMA Membership?

  • I'm with Engie now. It's under my husband's name. TCB now has 170 cashback for Econnex. I'm gonna sign up with my name this time.
Can I stack with TCB 170 cashback via Econnex and this Engie 200 ?

  • Has anyone had an issue receiving the credit from Engie after 90 days?
