  • They will not match sky tree. I was at a store earlier today and they said this. ā€œSky tree is not a real website it’s a fake websiteā€, I told them there’s a physical store in Queensland. Then they claim ā€œwe got a memo from HQ not to match sky tree, our price matching team placed an order and it never arrivedā€. I pointed to their policy it says as long as the item has the same model number which they do, then they said this ā€œthey mentioned 24 months warranty which means it’s a fake website as Apple only carry 12 months warrantyā€

Hope you guys have better luck.

    • our price matching team placed an order and it never arrived

So that's how they test the legitimacy of each store? Sounds like they just want to weasel out of a price beat.

    • Sounds like chemist warehouse.

      • I recently asked Chemist Warehouse to price match a bottle of conditioner that was cheaper at Priceline. The lady said she couldn't price match as it was on sale at Priceline and not their regular price. Obviously I was bemused.

        • That's ridiculous. I have successfully price matched sale items before. It's not excluded in their policy. I wonder though if the store manager has KPIs or bonuses inversely tied to the amount of price matching.

Whenever I try matching they always bring the store manager. Force you to wait. I tried matching against another chemist warehouse type shop also called something warehouse. I was told "they're just a warehouse. they don't have physical stores. look at their name". I was amused but held it in until after I had shown her their main street shop front and address. I've also been denied because I wanted to buy 'too many' of an item, 6 units.

    • My Officeworks Price Beat experience

I’ve successfully had Officeworks price beat a similar previous deal at my local store.

On the first attempt, one of the team members declined the Price Beat. I went back the following morning and tried again with another staff member, and the Price Beat was approved without any issues.

So based on my experience, I wouldn’t assume that a refusal from one staff member necessarily means the deal is ineligible. It may be worth trying again or speaking with another team member/manager, provided the deal meets the published Price Beat requirements.

      • provided the deal meets the published Price Beat requirements.

        That's the key here…

Might be worth raising an ACCC complaint for OW misleading advertising…

    • they mentioned 24 months warranty which means it’s a fake

Apple website say 2 years for warranty…

      https://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/statutory_warranty…

      • Apple Limited Warranty

2 years from date of purchase for Apple Watch Edition
1 year from date of purchase for all other Apple products

        • Without limiting consumers rights, Apple will provide its own remedies equivalent to those remedies in the consumer guarantee provisions of the Australian Consumer Law at any time within 24 months of the date of purchase. For the avoidance of doubt, Apple acknowledges that the Australian Consumer Law may provide for remedies beyond 24 months for a number of its products.

          • @jv:

            • (Apple) warranty ≠ (ACL) consumer guarantee
            • @tonester: It's on the Apple website…

Apple will provide its own remedies…within 24 months of the date of purchase

              • @jv:

                • remedy ≠ warranty
                • @tonester: In this case, it does…

I've used it in the past with no issues… They even tell you at the Apple store they are covered for 2 years.

                  • @jv: don’t confuse means with ends, or correlation with causation

                    • @tonester: Maybe Apple don't like you?

As I said, I've had no issue claiming under warranty at 2 years.

                      • @jv: as per your link, Apple provided your remedy under ACL consumer guarantee, not Apple Limited Warranty, unless Apple Watch

                      • @jv: From personal experience, I went into an Apple store with AirPods Pro 3 (on my settings app, it says limited warranty 1 year) which was ending soon, they couldnt test my airpods because of beta software and told me to come back at another, when I expressed concern over my warranty ending , and the Apple rep told me they cover it for 2 years, despite the 1 year notice in settings, due to ACL so am with you here JV

                      • @jv: Maybe Apple likes your money$$$ ;)šŸ¤”šŸ’„

    • well I've done it when skytree had the 17 pro for $1800, paid $1710 at ow, 3 weeks ago

      • paid $1710 at ow

        And $42.75 in flubuys ?

      • I did this too, very happy

  • Kinda feel once you're spending this much you might as well pay the extra for the 18.

    • Worth spending a little extra and get a new generation (18) instead.

      • Yeah better battery, camera and chips seems a no brainer for 10% more.

        • According to Geekerwan, the A20 Pro (+ Vapour Chamber) is a massive leap over the A19 Pro chipset (+ Heatsink).

In fact, over the entire industry. Today's iPhone 18 won't be matched by Samsung and Friends until Mid-2028 in terms of efficiency and performance. For all their faults, Apple can be innovative at times, and make their ludicrous pricing justifiable.

          • @Kangal: iPhones are >2y behind in Ai & much more in features, like S-pen, multi-windows, DeX, customisations & less enShittification (you don't own your phone, you instantly look for the next best iPhone & the current is NOT ;)šŸ¤”šŸ’„

            • @taki: Get back to your android cave dude šŸ˜†

            • @taki: Customisations will become a moot point in 100 days anyway, when installing any random APK file (read: sideloading) is gonna get much more tedious than before (thanks Google!).

            • @taki: I would say more than 2 years, holistically….. but that's by choice. Apple's choice, not yours. So I agree.

My comment was only addressing the processor side of things. We lost the deep-dive insights from Anandtech years ago. Geekerwan is the best in the industry now, albeit in Mandarin, but translation works well.

With that all said, the S27 seems to catch up to last year's iPhone 17, and is a massive leap on its own right. More importantly, the new Snapdragon Gen 6 Extreme (not Elite), it is said to use a new Driver Architecture, and this accelerates x86=ARM translation. So playing Windows 11 Apps and Games on your S27 Ultra is going to be feasible, and substantially faster than the S26 Plus/Ultra.

    • The 18 Pro Max doesn't come in Cosmic Orange though. However it does come in Burgandy and Black which the 17 Pro Max doesn't.

      • I really like the light blue. Not dropping $2k though!

    • unless you are going for a 1 or 2TB models in which case the 17 uses TLC over the 18s QLC.

    • Ikr, you can get the 18 for cheaper actually lol

Better to sign up for Costco $65 with code NEW20 (and get $20 off voucher later on) = $45 outlay.

Use OW to beat Costco's $2049 iPhone 18 price by 5%
      0.95*2049 = $1946.55

+$45 outlay from earlier = $1991.55 for 18 Pro with a year of Costco Membership.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/973796

      • I though OW wont price beat costco because its a membership?

I have had success price beating from gray sellers online at ow many times though.
My favourite was dicksmith (which still uses an .au) aka kogan which they don’t usually price beat haha

        Ymmv

        • Yeah definitely ymmv, the officeworks near me price beat Costco no questions asked. They just checked the item number matched and it was all good

  • friend of gumtree

  • This was a little bit cheaper at costco a while back

  • Just buy 18 pro

    • They want Max…

      • Ask 99.

        • Only using the cone of silence…

    • Thanks. Bought 18 of these

    • Obviously the Pro too small for those of us looking at Pro Max deals…

    • Chill dude. Not everyone is buying for brand. It’s the ecosystem that still keeps me in (every family member using ios). Also given how much discount I could get, it’s not much of a difference between Apple and other Android phones.

    • It's not just that. It's the eco system, the polish of the software and how everything just works, no fiddling like on android. Also and most importantly to me, iPhones hold their price way better than Android phones so it's easier to sell for a decent price when you want to upgrade. That's also only because their products last a lot longer than Androids, they're more reliable. This is in general and in my experience from owning top tier Samsung Androids in the past which always had issues and didn't have the longevity or durability of the iPhone. Finally warranty via apple and customer support I found miles ahead of Samsung

      • iPhone is like fast sports Toyota with 2 doors for 50% more reliability (just works for extra nonsense), minor cargo space & cannot change lanes for safety ;) šŸ¤”šŸ’„
Galaxy S23-27 Ultra is like BYD Yangwang U8 (turns around in place, can do everything & even float on water ;) šŸ„°ā˜Æļø No enShittification like Apple

        • Get back to your android cave dude

        • And said Yangwang U8 isn’t even available in Australia, nor will it be for a very long time.

  • Ow do price match but its better if we dont see their staff in person, as mostly from s e asia will try to find a reason not to do the price match as they have brought up in an environment where they think everything is owned by them and something going out of their pocket if they discount.
I think this business of making fake websites and list lower pricing is going bonkers these days. Lot of profit when mobile phoness are selling north of $1.5k for the cheapest model
You make a website (cheap from overseas)- with few friends chipping in.
List the new products like apple 20-25% discount
Buy with ow at 5% discount
    10% gst back if flying
Sell it overseas and make good money

    • The site is legit though, they do have a physical store in QLD.

    • What are you talking about lol show us some examples of fake websites selling iPhones.

  • What does a $2000 phone give you that a $1000 doesn't?

    • Extra $1k.

      • It doesn't give you $1k - you work hard to pay extra šŸ¤”šŸ’„or use your brains to save on cheaper models that have more functionality for less ;)šŸ„°ā˜Æļø

        • Fyi, i did not pay RRP on iphones I have/had. Hence, the discount I got is good enough that’s there’s no big difference between android and iphone for me. So it comes down to which os I prefer. Get back to your android cave, no need spit out sh*t like that.

    • What does $1000 phone give you that $500 doesn’t?

      • What does $500 phone give you that $250 doesn’t?

        • What does $250 phone give you that $125 doesn’t?

  • It was 1800 before 18 released.jb hifi matched it in less than 30 seconds.used gift cards and TRS.seems price is higher now

    • how did you get them to match?

      • It was jb hifbat Macquarie. I called and they said yes.so I came the day after paid with gift card. Ow 5% price beat would be better price but honestly the experience is really bad. I hardly shop at ow unless the price is significantly lower.

  • Most places should naturally take off around 5% for the pro max 18

  • If you go with Afterpay and save that money of 5% fixed deposit you will earn $200+ for two yrs. (24 months, 0% interest)

  • I've tried to price match Skytree at Officeworks twice, both got denied after talking to a couple of different staff members. Apparently 'their head office won't allow it'.

  • Just if its helpful for anyone, I actually ordered from Skytree before and zero complaints. Could call and talk to someone at the store and was shipped almost right away. Had it quickly and it was genuine Aussie stock. When I activated the iPhone, it confirmed in my Apple account that the warranty was valid to 12 months from that date, so defs not refurb or used stock

    • Load of šŸ’©

      • Talking about yourself? That’s correct. šŸ˜†

  • They are not an authorised Apple Reseller!!!

    • Who cares? The point is using them to price beat at OW.
