Catches
- From Brisbane the flight out has a 7-hour overnight wait in Guangzhou, 29 hours all up. Home is 25 hours.
- It's one ticket, so if the first flight runs late China Southern has to rebook you. Check China's transit rules if you want to leave the airport.
- The lowest prices often come from online travel agencies. Read the change and refund rules before you pay.
- Nothing close from Adelaide or Perth. The best we found were $1,530 and $1,559.

Full disclosure, I run Long Haul, a site for long-haul fares from Australia, and that's how I found this.
