Toolpro Automotive Tool Kit 198 Piece Series II $198 (Was $399) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Supercheap Auto

210

Pretty comprehensive kit for home automotive work. Includes 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive sockets, breaker bar, spanners, pliers, impact sockets, extensions and plenty of bits.

Has been this price before, but still looks like a good deal if you're after an all-round home mechanic set.

  • Only thing I will say is that this version is definitely worse than their older version. It's a great kit in general, but everything is much lower quality in a noticeable way in my opinion.

  • wow what a rare item for super cheap to have on sale.

    • Sarcasm? This kit goes on sale every other week.

      • yes it is sarcasm

  • A metric only set would be great.

  • Agree that the old version was better, but this is still a fantastic value for the money. Comes with almost everything a home mechanic would need, just missing a good screwdriver set!

  • Curious from people who have had the old and new version, what makes the old version better? I've got the older 198 piece kit that didn't come with pliers and it's fantastic imo, but the new kit seems to have quite a lot of value in it.

I agree that a metric only set would be ideal, I don't think I've ever touched the SAE sockets on mine.

    • Don't have either but I've heard lots of people complain when the Toolpro stuff shifted from Taiwan to China/India.

There is less quality control and metal quality etc. So things you wouldn't notice looking at it or with light use.

Basically everything is worse now lol.

      • Seems to have been a noticeable uptick in the amount of steel, supposedly what it is, being substituted with that weird alloy crap. Steeluminium, Alumironium, Western Star Spreadable Magnesium. It's ferrous enough you can get a magnet to show some interest but the density is far below any spec'd steel.

    • I believe what happens is sca sends the requests to manufacturers asking for particular tool kits and minimum standards. They go for the lowest price, they go with that manufacturer and generally quality gets worse over time when they try and keep the costs as low as possible while manufacturing and material costs increase, so they still make $$$$ and the user gets what appears on paper as a decent price.
For the odd use quality issues would not really be seen, but for wider usage the quality issues would be seen. That said lifetime warranty they should just replace a stripped ratchet etc.

    • From what I know, the pliers and Allen keys have changed to a much shitter quality.

  • I probably would saved a fair amount just getting this instead of stuff piecemeal to work on the bike..

  • Buying combination sets these days is a massive waste of money unless you have a keen interest in really old cars.

  • I reckon this one is more versatile with pliers, allen key set, lug nut sockets. great for an all in one kit compared to the old one of sockets (without lug nut sockets) and spanners

  • Does anyone have this kit that lives in their car? wondering how it goes surviving bouncing around in a car lol. More looking for a grab & go kit for the track days or road trips so I don't need to raid my entire tool chest every time

    • My experience with this kit is that some things are going to fall out of their place when you open it. Only about two or three things, but it can get annoying.

      • Fair enough, so typical blowmold things. Thanks
