Simple question. I can't find the answer in the clause or anywhere to say I can't.
Novated Lease - Can Your Partner Register for Uber Car Driving?
Comments

This is all you need to read OP. I’ve been with 2 different novated lease companies, the big ones SG and NL Aus, and both outright ban the use of ride sharing.
I’m surprised OP is having so much issues trying to find this answer. What NL provider does not make this explicitly clear.

So it says you can't use it in a race or competition. Can you use it on a racetrack though? (eg Hot laps). Asking for a mate.

username checks out- 3

You do realise that you don't own the car while under a novated lease? There is no way in hell the novated company would allow your partner, or you, to use the vehicle for ridesharing. FFS stop trying to double dip. FFS

A novated lease has a predetermined number of kilometres per year. You’ll find the number of kilometres you need to do to get decent money out of Uber is much more than this.

check the target market determination or pds. pretty sure it will say it doesnt cover rideshare

You/ she can't get claim tax deductions for a novated vehicle, which is the crux of the matter.
Surely noone would drive for Uber and not claim the car running costs.- 2

Don't tell them, they won't ask 🤔

They can know and if you are in an accident, could get complex.
But yes want to do things properly.

Who are "they" and how will "they" know (besides getting in an accident)?
- 2

It's not automatically sent to them, but with signing up for uber, there are a few things you need to register that is public.
They can. But not auto alerted afaik.

Not sure about other states, but in Qld you'd need to get a certificate of inspection, which is flagged to the car.

No.
Is your novated lease linked to commercial use and insurance or personal insurance and personal use?
- 1

Op can opt in to organise their own insurance policy for a Novated Lease, then select a ride-share policy when insuring the car? Which is different to commercial use, according to AAMI.
- 1

Personal I believe.
But can't I just get a different insurance if that's the only issue?
- -5

FFS this is not how it works.
- 4

shhh let them do it I'm waiting for the forum post in 6 months

No. You can't get a commercial insurance policy for a car that is registered for personal use.
Nothing good ever comes out of scammers trying to scam banks or insurance people.
Instead of finding ways for you to become a defendant, why don't you concentrate on doing things that are legal instead of fraudulent?
- 4

I'm literally asking of ways to do it legally.
- -1

No, read your contract with the employer and the ATP.
Novated lease is to be set aside your tax obligations.
You can't then convert it to commercial usage and double dip into tax obligations.
Tell partner to buy a scooter. Your car cannot be used in trade or commerce.

Thank you. I appreciate the definitive answer.

No.

Go on, one more time
- 1

Don't ask, don't tell.
- 1

Lol op bought a novated lease car with the expectation of being able to ride share with it
- 1

Why wouldn't I ask beforehand if that's the case?
I've had it for 2 years and recently life circumstances changed.

Yes

I am on my third novated lease now, and for every single lease, the deed of novation has an outright ban for the use of car for rideshare purpose:
I can't say for sure that this is universal across all analogous documents for every single lease, but won't be surprised that it is.
So yeah, nah.
