  • Can offcieworks price beat this ?

    • I don't believe office works price match/beat costco anymore, last I check jbhifi does it but are meant to ask for proof of costco membership, note this is for the SA variant (soft case) which these retailers might not be carrying to begin with.

but price includes delivery so you can get someone else to buy it on your behalf

      • The changed the rules a month or two ago, where they pricebeat costco.

      • i price matched my iphone at officeworks with costco, they updated their t&c a bit ago

    • Yes! Unless you meet a Karen, who would still price match but will make you feel like they’re doing a favour and drag the bloody thing, like it’s going off their pockets.

I bought a mobile phone two weeks back, price matched costco

      • No retailer is going to price match this unless they themselves sell the XM-1000XM5A. And generally the Australian retailers don't carry that release but only have the XM-1000XM5 which is a different product release. Not the identical stocked item. They won't price match what they don't even sell.

      • male karens are the worst

        • Wait till you identify a non binary Karen.

    • This is the WH-1000XM5SA which technically is different release (soft case instead of a hard case) with a different model number in the box. Officeworks only sells the WH-1000XM5. So they'll argue that it's not the same model and hence no price match because they don't sell the WH-1000XM5SA and only the WH-1000XM5. It's not the same product release. It needs to be an identical stocked item and this is not identical to what Officeworks sells.

    • WH1000XM5SA. I think the SA in the end is the key. Last time i was there trying to get them pricebeat umart (for a Logitech keyboard/mouse combo) the lady checked the umart website herself and made sure it's exactly the same model number before she could approve and also added what i would've been charged for shipping before applying the 5% off.

I thought it's it's a fair deal., cuz the item was online only at umart and not available for click and collect. I saved money and still got the item without having to wait for it to be delivered.

  • Great price…but i feel the upgrades of the XM6 are significant for travellers.

Also being under $300 limits TRS claims :(.

    Still very tempting.

    • I would advise not getting a XM5 with all the broken hinges floating around. Even mine broke and i was babying it.

      • Yeah, its a deal breaker for me tbh. I'd happily buy a XM6 for ~$350. Fingers crossed!

Space while traveling is becoming a premium.

My Bose QC25's still function perfectly, but the foam is so degraded (I've replaced it a couple times already) that it leaves debris on me!

        • XM6 have their own issue with headband clips breaking and sony not honouring warranties. It's common enough that people have begun 3d printing parts to hold together their broken headphones.

      • I wonder what percentage of buyers have it.

mine been rock solid for years

    • Just get something else from the same retailer to reach 300 for trs. :)

    • You can buy two pack of toilet paper to make it over $300 :)

      • You need to take it with you overseas guys…

I did look at the travel gear online and it was not impressive.

      • Imagine turning up at the airport with 2 packs of toilet papers

    • Agree plus I don’t think these fold like the older ones and the xm6?

  • Sony Headphones ahve a structural design flaw where the plastic arm and lower swivel hinge frequently snap or crack under normal use.

    • Yep had it happen to me, happy with my Bose who make theirs with metal

    • Anything with this hinge or arm structure including the xm5 and 6 has this issue. I suspect that's why they relaunched the xm4(c) again out of nowhere, probably to test if people would be happy going back to the old design.

  • These have a bad reputation of the hinge breaking under normal use, and Sony trying to dodge their obligations by quoting people excessive repair fees.

    • You can replace the headband yourself, I bought a replacement headband for around $90 from AliExpress.

  • JB Weld Plastic Bonder 25mL Black for when the hinge breaks
After a few months of use they pause and skip music at random, only resolution was to disable the touchpads.

This is my experience using them purely at my desk or when travelling. This was a major purchase for me and I could not have been more gentle.

    • ACL replace or refund. If it’s worth your time..

      • unfortunately doesn't apply when you pick them up abroad

      • They still deny a lot of customers. Had to take them to vcat to honour the acl replacement. Sony has become a scummy brand in 2026 across their entire product range.

  • this or Bose QuietComfort Headphones (not the 2nd gen) 🤔

    • this or airpods pro 3?

      • Even my APP 2 blows out Bose QC on noise cancelling. Not sure about these tho.

    • I have the Bose QC Ultra (Gen 1) I think Sony have upper hand in NC but Bose still win in sound quality.

  • XM4 or 6

    Don't buy these fragile things.

    • The XM6 has a hinge problem as well.

      • Not the hinge but the clip that holds the headphone arm….which still uses their shitty recycled plastic for whatever reason.

  • I swear the XM4s have better noise cancelling than the XM5s…

  • I would say don't. XM6 is much better, including noise cancelling and hinge design

and XM6 Sony refurb units were $341 earlier this year - I got one and they are like new and super solid.

    • No thanks to refurb headphones. Just because yours arrived like new, doesn't mean everyone you recommend refurb for will get like new.

  • How about Beats 360??!

    • Aren't they pure marketing BS just like Apple's AirPods Max?

Sony/Bose are known market leaders for those who care about comfort and sound quality.

  • My over ear XM3's are going strong the in ear Xm3's never held much charge since new and got minimal use. Picked up the Samsung Buds Pro 4 and other than random disconnection making whatever I'm listening to audible to anyone they are perfect. I don't know if I should do a warranty claim on them for this.

  • Im using the XM4. How much of an upgrade are these compared to the 4's?

I heard the headband on the 5s is not very comfortable

    • XM4 is the GOAT.

  • I’m pretty deaf so I don’t need this 😀

  • Bought these a week ago at Costco for $299. Do they do price adjustments?
