  • Optus NBN is notorious for having issues connecting to overseas websites so I switched to Superloop.

    • What kind of issues?

      • connecting to overseas websites

        • Clarify "connecting".

Delays? Timeouts? No connection at all? And for all overseas websites? Or just some?

          • @bluemyself: The well known downside is higher latency compared to all other RSPs for nearly all international destinations. Not so sure about actual international "connection issues". Though there have been many reports here of general connection dropouts.

            • @nategasm: Optus sent me an SMS the other day that they have issues they are trying to work out… They haven't.

Had a rep and a complaint number they offered me credit for. Emailed back I wanted to cancel my connection last month. Got a reply that they received my response… But NBN is still connected. I don't have a valid payment method with them …no idea how this is going to play out.

          • @bluemyself: Very poor peering, results in high latency and slow speeds

  • Currently with amaysim, how long do I need to wait to be considered a new customer?

    • *Offer only available once per account, per premises, in a 12-month period.

      per previous sales

      • Never applied to me, I just resigned up and it accepted it. Moment I ported out they considered me new

        • This is for NBN, not mobiles.

          • @jv: Yes for nbn, I’d go to another provider on a similar deal then back. Once was only 2 months for a 45 day sign up bonus.

  • On the $50/month 500/50 plan I think it is and it’s just fine 🤷‍♂️

    • Same. I have been with Amaysim on the same plan and haven't had any issues.

  • Worse NBN ever

  • My elderly mum has been using this deal for 5 months now (500/50 for $50), and will revert to full price next month…. it's shameful how expensive 25/10 plans are ($70 with Amaysim), so I'm hoping there might be some discounts with other providers soon even if I have to keep switching her every few months. I'd love to keep her around the $50 a month mark for 25/10 or greater.

EDIT - looks like there's a few 6 month discounts with Tangerine, Spintel and Moose Mobile for low 40's for 25/10…. so I can just continually switch between them until there's another better plan at that price range. Next best I can see if Belong with 50/20 for $55 for 6 months.

Using the nice NBN Tracker website.

    • Try Dodo with $100 cashback from TopCashback.

Their NBN 25/10 plan is $44 per month for 6 months.

      ($44 x 6 - $100) / 6 = $27.33 per month.

You can switch between that and Amaysim's $30 per month for 6 month deals for low cost internet.

      • This. My elderly mum has been with Dodo for the past 6 months and no issues at all. Will sign her up to this Amaysim deal next month.

      • I'm going to switch her to Dodo next month, thank you! I'm hoping the 25/10 will be enough (she watches a lot of streaming UK TV via Fetch), but I'm betting it'll be fine.

    • Wouldn't she be better off with some 10gb mobile plan hotspotted off an old android phone or something?

  • Sigh still not available for all NBN tech types :(

  • IPv6?

    • Nope. Wish I knew this before signing up.

      • RIP. It's 2026, pants-on-head luddite to only support legacy IPv4.

    • I don't understand how any ISP doesn't have it any more, but there are multiple who don't (Optus proper(!), Belong, Amaysim are three I've tried and discovered too late they didn't have it). It's not like IPv6 is a new thing any more. Pretty silly.

      • Can you tell us what this is and why its important please?

        • The most obvious benefit to the everyday user would be less traffic lights and motorcycles to select when browsing. To power users, a static IPv6 address can often be used in place of a static IPv4 address. I have set up a web server to display phpinfo only when accessed over a certain IPv6 address.

  • With amaysim as we speak
Big fan of their phones and pass and tech support

    But the nbn is crap
On 500 and have about 6 drop outs a day

    I also get 100 not 500 speeds

    • me too, do you have a FTTP connection as well?

    • agreed
haven’t had any other nbn come even close to it in crapiness.

    • Yes, we switched from the southern phone once honeymoon was over. Southern phone for me was a rock solid reliable although there accounting was terrible overcharging and making all sorts of mistakes..

I’ve had no money problems since switching to Amaysim but they drop out every day. Southern phone was maybe once or twice a month.

    • Yeah i just signed up on the 500 for $50 and i also get 170 at best and often 100 or below.

    • Getting 584/42 on the 750 plan (HFC) at 8pm. Hasn't been too bad. I have had a lot of websites ask me to do a captcha recently though…which is a bit annoying.

    • Had Amaysim last year 500/50
      went to optus deal 500/50
now will go back to the 500/50 Amaysim for $50 six month deal.
Have had no issue at all in the last couple of years on HFC.
Get 500 speeds all the time sometimes just over.

    • Make sure you use cat6 cables. Cat5 supports up to 100 only.
Restart router. I find myself having to restart router when it Locks to 100 randomly.

      • Then just get Cat5e. I haven't seen legacy Cat5 cables for over 10 years.

  • Warning: Please don’t take up this offer! I have gone through the terrors recently and switched to Belong.

    • How’s belong treating you? I’m eyeing the 1000/100 plan
Lodged cancellation at Optus for end of billing cycle to be sure, gonna churn out a couple days before — can’t wait to get off this god awful network.

      • It’s just been a couple days; moved from 750/75 to 500/50, but it for sure is an upgrade with no drops. Yet to do a full test.

      • I notified Optus, and they just don't reply..

        • Don’t get me started — they started by asking me if this was the service address — my reply “lol no 😂” “wanna try again?”

    • Me too. I changed recently to 1st energy, 52$ for 500/50 Mbps.

      • How's the connection for you? Drop outs?
Currently with 1st energy for electricity, might consider churning. Currently with more NBN 500 and paying 75/month

        • Connection is not bad, no drop-outs so far. Not really bad for $52

  • You can sign up first to try as the network issues might jot affect you. If you want to cancel they will offer you a discount to try and make you stay. It will be cheap enough to make you want to stay.

  • Stay clear of amaysim NBN , been with them for nearly 5 months so many drop outs during day and night(atleast 7-8) ,terrible service , haven’t seen a worst NBN provider , would never touch them again , have changed to Belong NBN due to Amaysims shit show

  • Been with amaysim 750/50 on HFC for a month. I havent had any issues with dropouts like the others. Speed is as advertised, ping is the same. I was with superloop before.

Once youve signed up you get 50% on mobile plans for 12 months which is actually pretty decent deal.

    • Same here on a 25/10 plan. All is working properly. I don't play online games, so ping or latency is not an issue. I see no performance difference with, for example, friends internet plans at their homes with 500mbps or higher, besides faster downloads

  • I signed up on 22nd sept on 500mbps, FTTP and I am jumping ship already on 21st oct.

I have never seen such bad international ping and speeds and drop outs. Out of 10+ NBN providers, amaysim is the worst.

Youtube buffers too much, my phone drops out of wifi, downloading from international servers is slow AF, and even using VPN, don't get me started, it's like being on dial-up again……

Do yourself a favour, spend another $5 with another provider, not worth the damn headache.

Not a single dropout since I moved to Hellstra. Was getting multiple every day in the end with Amaysim.

      • Agree, I contacted amaysim today and forward dated my cancellation to 5th oct, I can't handle it. Also amaysim has a 30 day refund policy, don't like them within 30 days, contact them to get a refund. And that's what I did. I have a big "DO NOT SIGN UP EVER!!!!" in my NBN notes next to amaysim. haha

Moved to the $59 belong deal here.

  • I moved to Amaysim FTTP from Origin and it's definitely worse for international routes. I've actually activated a VPN via router to solve the problem. Did several tests with multiple servers with and without VPN and VPN has improved latency and speed for international routes. I will probably stay for a few months and then find something better.

Using Torrentio with debrid was impossible after I changed to Amaysim (not a problem with Origin). I had to implement other solutions to solve this problem.

    • Which VPN are you using?

      • Nord officially but got same good results with a dedicated US TorGuard IP for services that block VPNs. I setup my router so that different devices use different VPN.

  • I was on Amaysim HFC 1000/100. Pricing was very attractive but I left after 2 months as the constant buffering with YouTube made it unusable. I am now paying more with Superloop but at least YouTube is usable again.

    • Ive noticed a bit of this too.

  • I'm starting to regret joining Amaysim. There's something wrong with their config. Im getting 403s to random banking / media sites for no good reason that resolve on a router reboot. Never had any issue on previous ISP. I did have a problem like this several years back with More Internet, contacted their tech support and never found a resolution, so just moved on. And no im not using a VPN or anything. Getting a lot of cloudflare captchas and the like too. I dont suppose anyone can offer assistance?

    • Try Google's or another DNS server

      • Unfortunately im already using 8.8.8.8 and it isnt helping. Also it's all devices not just one : (.

  • i actually was on amaysim for six months and it was so patchy my unifi showed high spikes in latency and often internet would just stall. im with zipfibre now and its been solid.

  • Quick tip: signup for the cheapest plan then upgrade to get free rest of the billing cycle. Know your billing cycle before changing plan to maximise benefit.

  • Stay away from this guys, any servers outside australia almost unusable without vpn. Worst experience i've had with nbn provider, support also useless - they asked me to reset all network settings on my phone in order to troubleshot speed and connections issues

  • As with others, terrible experience with Amaysim and can't wait to move. Constant YouTube buffering across all my devices - sometimes it'll be fine with 4K then a minute later will struggle loading 240p (connection speed in 'stats' bounces all over the place regardless of the time of day).

Randomly slow downloads for anything without a local server.

Came from Origin which was flawless.

    • Not saying it isn't amaysim's fault here, but YouTube itself has been having issues across multiple providers due to the recent subsea cable cuts, and they are aware of it. See this post

      • Thanks, could be part of it actually - though, I haven't had any issues when at family members' places on Origin or when using a VPN (maybe they are routing things differently?).

        Removed my neg.

    • Origin is ABB

      • Used to be ABB but now Superloop.

        • Well they should be fine then, performance wise

  • Isnt Amaysim, Optus?
