Timely with summer coming, and I predict a hot one. Same price as last month but prime required

Features:

  • Ultra-Energy-Efficient DC Motor – The 533DC uses a brushless DC motor for up to 80% less energy consumption versus conventional fans, helping you stay cool while keeping your power bill in check.
  • Whole-Room Vortex Circulation – Featuring Vornado’s signature Vortex Action, this unit sends airflow across the room (suitable for spaces around 21 m²) rather than just in front of the fan — enjoy fresh, consistent air wherever you are.
  • Precise Variable Speed Control – Unlike simple 3-speed fans, the 533DC offers nearly infinite speed control via a dial, so you can select the exact airflow you prefer — from whisper-quiet to full thrust.
  • Compact, Quiet & Targeted – With a small footprint and low noise design (quiet enough for night use), this fan is ideal for bedrooms, small living spaces, study areas or offices where space is tight but performance matters.
  • Flexible Directional Airflow & Easy Maintenance – Adjustable tilt lets you direct airflow across furniture or toward the ceiling for better circulation, and the detachable front grill simplifies cleaning so your unit stays in peak condition.

  • Air circulator = fan?

    • Air movement = wind
      So yes

      • Fart = Wind
        So… Arse = fan?

        • You called, sir?

        • I'm a fan

        • Fart = Wind
          Arse = fan

That is a jet engine. You take in the hot air, compresses with fuel in your tummy and let it all out via the rectal/nozzle.

Since yours is bladeless, it is at best a very old jet engine. Therefore, not a fan with blades.

        • I'm no fan of that Arse.

    • There's a difference. This is designed to pretty much push massive volumes of air from the floor up. The amount of air is very consistent and solid throughput unlike conventional fans. My main room faces west and gets really hot (30c+) in the afternoons, even on mild 20c days. A regular AC fan can't move air fast enough into the room from my foyer, whereas this will pretty much fill the room up with colder air from the foyer into my room while the hot air is effectively "pumped out" of the room as such.

      • Can you use these in a bedroom then? Or is it more for open areas? How about outside in an alfresco?

      • They're just fans no matter which way you look at it. And that video explains absolutely nothing.

        • And they're very noisy.

          Big marketing gimmick.

          • @jimbo6: False. Not noisy at all for the CFM.

          • @jimbo6: Not sure why you got negged so hard lol. I owned this and they are in fact very noisy, they are only quiet at low speed like <50%.

            • @BargainDemon: this is true, great in the shoulder seasons where a little bit of airflow is lovely (up to 50% as you say)

            • @BargainDemon: These fans are a cult. People constantly trying to justify their shitty $200 purchase.

Sleeping in a room with one on is near impossible.

        • Variable DC worth it alone, very quiet and adjustable, great for many months of the year. No on disputing they are noisy when over 50%

DC more efficient, not just 3 speeds.

      • A regular AC fan can't move air fast enough into the room from my foyer

You poor thing, haven't had a fan that "pushes" enough air.

There is no such a thing as a regular/irregular fan. Just a matter of air volume as well vortex it creates.

        • Get aircon you cheap fks

    • bargainatoraah
      Air circulator = fan?

      Every time without fail lol.

People should read the previous comments, these are posted every week almost.

I got one in livingroom, good to leave on very low to medium for airflow, very directional otherwise and better fans out there. DC model good either way.

      • Every time without fail lol.

Everyone someone calls a fan an air circulator would fail physics.

        • It’s the product. Might as well not put any names of the products and call it “Apple phone” instead of iPhone or “Samsung phone” instead of Galaxy Android whatever.

It’s literally the name of the producf

          • @ozbargainhunter400:

names of the products and call it “Apple phone” instead of iPhone or “Samsung phone”

That is true. Though, you only have idiots argue that it's either a galaxy or apple, but a phone.

            • @SetTheFaqUp: It’s an example and not the point. You’re too caught up on the object/words and not the principles.

I’m pretty sure it’s a rule on OZB to put the name of the thing too.

              • @ozbargainhunter400: A very good example indeed.

                not the principles

A fan moves air. No engineer would disagree.

                • @SetTheFaqUp: Everyone knows what it is, people just like to nit-pick and troll, countless threads similar to this, when the same people have to make the same comments every time :).

It's good and fairly minimal for the living room. I prefer my Xiaomi mi smart standing fan 1x $100.

Also DC with 100 step settings, bluetooth/wifi and phone remote (as long as you are happy going through the App and china servers)

                  • @G-Shock:

                    Everyone knows what it is

                    Sure…

                    • @SetTheFaqUp: Everyone except you then.
Seems like you are enjoying the banter so carry on..

Don't be scared to google it or ask AI any questions you have.

    • Yes, in the same way a leaf blower is a fan.

      • As long as she blows

  • Am I missing something? Why's this fan so expensive?

    • Different use cases. Some are: pointing towards a window or in the direction of a window which *can draw in cooler air from outside the house. Having a aircon in one room and being able to blow it down a hallway and cool another room.

….This will start an armchair science debate…I've already said too much…

      • I get that, but is it meant to be silent or move a LOT of air magically or something? If the aim is to move a lot of air, surely bigger is better?

        • Think of it less as a directional fan, and more of an air mover/circulator. It helps eliminate hot or cold spots in rooms instead of just relying on a directional fan occasionally to move something around a bit.

I believe it's more akin to having a floor-based ceiling fan which moves a lot more air. If you've already got ceiling fans or ac and you don't care about running ac a lot as well, may not be the product for you.

          • @ReaperX22: So if you place it next to a 1m3 block of ice in a large room it will effectively act as an evaporative cooler? Does it oscillate or just disturbs the air in one direction?

            • @Surfer Dude: One direction. We have one and they are fantastic. Cheap to run, not overly noisy when on high. Our hot summer bedroom is much more bearable with this on.

      • pointing towards a window

Point it out of the window and you will have a exhaust fan.

    • Why's this fan so expensive?

      Because people pay it.

      • A bit like Mercedes, you can a spring suspension as AIRMATIC and people would think it is something revolutionary.

      • people sheeps

    • Pretty much marketing, it's a fan with slightly bigger motor so it pushes more air. Compare them with similar fan of the same size and motor, and they pretty much do the same thing.

    • Why's this fan so expensive?

      Why is anything expensive?

  • I have one.
This thing blows, and by that I mean it moves a LOT of air.

    • Same, it's expensive but I love it, dial it right down and it's almost silent and good for night time, turn it right up and it's pretty impressive for its size, would I pay full price absolutely not. Only thing I wished it had was an inbuilt timer but solved that with a smart plug and it's now pretty much a smart fan and able to turn on and off with google home.

      • I'd been wondering what to do with my spare smart plug.

Thank you for the idea! I just nabbed the 633DC and will absolutely throw my meross smart plug on it! Cheers.

        • Link it to outside temp. So it auto turns off at a set temp.

Never get a head cold again

        • Got my 633dc just before. On smart meter. Full draw 30w. Got it running now at 10w. Doesn't cost much to run and good airflow. Sure, won't "save" for a very long time. But if paying 30c/kWh cost around 50c for a week constant. Not sure current price. This is at 10w.
Also on homeassistant and got air sensors and thermostats. If smoke in area air purifiers turn on and red light if bad and to close windows. It catches it before we can smell smoke. Lot of burns and fires in this area.

    • Is this a viable option to push hot air out to windows for second floor of the house during summer with hot air?

What about moving cool air from air conditioning from one side of the house to another e.g. Kitchen to lounge?

      • Can work with mixed results for the second use case (EDIT: better off with the larger 633DC if wanted to try that). For the first scenario it'll do stuff all and you'd want to be looking at a portable AC if can't get a regular one installed.

  • 633DC also on sale for 159 Amazon AU. I spent the extra personally. Curious to see the hype of these and how they actually move air vs a traditional fan (we've got 2 traditional pedestal fans + ducted ac but we try to minimise ac use where possible)

    • Thanks for sharing, bought the 533DC then saw this, so cancelled and went for the 633DC.

Like you, always been curious about the hype. Hope it's worth it.

    • Just use your ducted AC and be comfortable. You can use a fair bit for the price of $159.

      • Partners sinus doesn't love AC so we minimise it where possible. Prefer fresh air and air movement over AC unless it's a truly hot day. Actually we mostly use AC because of our pets (Guinea pigs, 4 of em) who don't tolerate heat as well as us. Haha.

We also rent. So there's no promise next place has either AC or potentially AC in the areas required if not ducted for example. Figure we can always take a fan/circulator with us!

  • Larger one on sale for $165

    • That is the AC model, whereas this is the DC.

The larger DC model (633DC) is also on sale though for $159.

      From what I gather,
      - DC models have stepless dials, whereas the AC models have 3-4 preset speeds
      - DC models better at lower speeds as they can go really low and quiet, energy efficient
      - AC models have push buttons which means they default to "off" if you use a smart plug
      - DC model + smart plug will resume at whatever the dial was set to

  • Does anyone here know what their return policy is? If I don't like this product can I return it?

    Thanks everyone.

    • Yes if you can read the listing

      • ty

Get one of these instead of you have a Costco membership.

21 vs 32.8 m² coverage, can move a lot of air if you turn it up, can be very quiet when on low (we use it for some airflow going to bed) remote control, can switch off LED indicators, and can set oscillation both sideways and vertically.

    No brainer for the price.

    • people get this model for the efficient power consumption. there are Vornado 533's that aren't the DC model for closer to the woozoo price. these aren't apples to apples

      • efficient power consumption

Er… Electric to kinetic on modern electric motor is very efficient. Be it either AC or DC motor something is wrong if it doesn't operate near 100% efficiency due to whatever defect that would have caused the resistance.

DC doesn't make it more efficient, just more "steps". Brushes DC motors are in fact less efficient due to contact resistance.

What people are yapping on about is the fan blade design to optimise towards static pressure (not necessarily air volume). So, a vornado might even move less air.

      • The DC version has a stepless potentiometer. Also works with smart plugs.

The AC one does not work with smart plugs.

  • Just remember these are air circulators not fans

You don't direct them at you. You aim them at the opposite corner of the room and they circulate air.

I like them in my old place where the aircon was in the other room. I could launch cold air that way

    • launch cold air that way

Try launching it to the middle east and start selling cold air to them.

      • Unfortunately I have tried this business model and I went bankrupt finding out that air conditioning is a common appliance over there

    • That's what everyone says, it's fine to point at yourself, the blades and cover distribute it fine.

Can't imagine anyone not pointing it at themselves in real life.

      • If you want a column of air aimed at part of your body, sure

        • it still disperses as I've noticed. Why would i point it at an opposite wall or something when it's hot (yes i've read how they are supposed to work, noise wouldn't be considered).

        • So you prefer it blowing on your back, not on your face?

  • I have the slightly larger version and would rate it above average. Areas of improvement are noise (noticeably at 1/3 speeds and above) and volume of air pushed around the room (it needs to be aimed at the corner) - both could be addressed by a larger blade size. Not as good as a DC ceiling fan and slightly better than a normal fan.

I have used it to push air from an aircon room to another and it is okay. I feel it works best as a complimentary fan do either ceiling or aircon.

    • Hey mate I want to ask…. For two storey house, in summer second level always trapped with hot air. is this useful to push hot air out of the room, out to windows? If so I will get one.

Pushing hit air out is what I need and normal fans are not good enough

      • Here's a trick you can try for free, if you place your fan 1-2m before opening, it would push more air than placing it directly on the opening.

  • Wouldn’t an air purifier make more sense? It circulates air in the room AND actually does something.

    • CFM.

Jack of two trades master of none.

      These things move air.

      • Most decent air purifiers have air circulation claims that are then verified with reviews. Air purifiers are used in medical settings. This is a fan. I know which I'd trust.

        • those aren't mutually exclusive. I have both an air purifier and a fan (533DC) in my room. both do different things.

    • Different devices

  • Can this be used to send AC cooled air from one room to the next?

  • Had a heater of this brand. Smells terrible with steel

  • Check out the ozito one.

  • Kmart should get theirs back soon. Great product.

  • Bought the XL to hopefully pump cool air into this sweat box during the evenings.

    • Need ac for that

  • Come here everytime this is posted to say it changed my life. hot summers and movement of air in the room is incredible, I feel it on my whole body through the night. it is not a pedestal fan, my wife thought I was crazy told me to send it back before we tried it, after first night was also blown away, I regret not getting the stand though to open up the area
