I’ve been slowly adding more HomeKit gear around the house and this was one of my latest additions. Really good little bedside lamp — I’ve got it automated to turn on in the morning and slowly increase the brightness to help with waking up. Thinking of pairing it with the Meross Smart Presence Sensor too, so it can automatically turn on when I walk into the room at certain times. Pretty handy little setup for the price.

Features:

  • Smart Home Life: Apple HomeKit Siri, Apple Watch, Carplay, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility let you control your Beside lamp absolutely hands-free with simple voice commands. Via Meross or Home APP, you can remote control the smart lamp from anywhere with internet access.

Apple latest version supports color temperature
  • HomeKit Remote Control: To enable HomeKit remote control, you need some Apple devices such as an Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD or an iPad. • Can you control colour & brightness ONLY using HomeKit?

    • You can control colour (red, green, blue, etc) / temperature (warm white, cool white, etc) and brightness

      • Thanks. Any feature that REQUIRES Meross app?

        • Nothing that I’m aware of so far

        • I'm guessing firmware updates

    • You can use siri too, if you are daring to use it

  • Have a couple of these. Great little bedside lights. I rate them.

    • I'll second this. It's a great little unit; there are very few glitches when used from the Apple HomeKit app, and it does everything really well.

    • I want 1% to be really dull so it's almost a night light, but some are too bright even at 1% - is this one ok for that purpose?

      • I would say 1% is really dull.

  • I have several of these, integrated with Home Assistant with full range of colours and brightness levels. If using manually, the top is touch sensitive. Tap, double tap to turn on and off. When on, single tap changes colours (7 or 8), press and hold changes brightness. Rotate also. It remembers the last setting. A minor "feature" … some of mine turn on automatically after a power cut, but not all. Can't find a setting for that.

    • double tap to turn on and off. When on, single tap changes colours

I've been using this for a few years and this batshit insane UI design is the only thing I don't like about this lamp — once you've inevitably switched to the wrong colour, it takes quite a few taps to return to the correct one.

I eventually switched to using a Philips Hue switch instead (everything hooked up to Home Assistant) so I don't have to deal with this lunacy.

My verdict on the Meross MSL430HK after having used it everyday for 3+ years: not great, not terrible, decent value for the price but I wouldn't pay anymore than the usual $48 sale price for it. If there is a better smart lamp at this price, I'm not aware of one. If it weren't for the single tap vs double tap thing, I would probably rate this 5/5 stars (for the price). Colour rendering (CRI) isn't as nice as on more expensive lamps, but for the price it's understandable.

  • Is the wake up automation built into the Meross app?

    • Yep, you can do it on set time, sunrise/sunset, and timers.

  • I actually almost bought this due to this deal since im all in on HomeKit, but $50 for a lamp that realistically a COGS of $5 (including $2 to be certified as HomeKit compatible) to manufacture doesn't scream deal to me. Sure companies need to make a profit but I'd purchase at closer to $30 than $50.

  • Hey. How low in brightness can we make this.
Can we dim it really dim for a low night light.
And set wake up light. And I guess it will be bright?

    • I am away at present so can't test how low it goes in brightness. Via the manual control probably not dim enough for a nightlight. But probably via an automation to set the level. Maximum brightness is fair, but not good enough for reading with my ageing eyes. But I often need my phone torch to read restaurant menus.

    • Perfect for night light 1% is barely on.

    • Can confirm that the 1% brightness setting is the same as a typical night light (the ones you plug into a powerpoint), very dim.

Note that max brightness for this Meross lamp is not that bright at all, so I wouldn't recommend it for reading books unless you have a Kindle or something with its own built-in backlight illumination. If I'm reading a physical paperback book I need to turn on an additional light in my bedroom.

  • Appreciate it
    I’ll
    Buy one and try

  • Sorry smart lighting noob here, I just bought a couple Philips Hue globes and was planning to get a Hue Bridge while they’re on sale.
Would I be able to control this lamp as well as the Hue bulbs all in once place with a Hue Bridge?

    • Hue is its own ecosystem and doesn't talk to Meross devices. I use Home Assistant to control all my smart home devices including Hue bulbs and my Meross lamp.
